What do I do if a short isn't working out? don't mean a leveraged put. It's not that catastrophic. If I close out this short, I'd be buying at a high price... the company I shorted is up 20% since I took the short. If I close it, it's defeat, and I eat some significant loss. I'd be closing during ATH. I took this short to hedge my portfolio for some protection. If I keep the short, it still serves its purpose. It'll still work as a hedge, just a hedge that may grow more and more costly. I was concerned about the ATHs, and losing the gains I already had, and wanted a position to cushion me some if there was a downturn. What's the right call here? Cut losses now? Set a stop loss at 50%? Stop loss at 30%? Hope for the best? It's not leveraged, and it's not a huge position but this shit is adding up, and growing larger than I had intended it to be. It's a large cap, I don't really have to worry about it doing some crazy shit like a 5x in a day.The company I'm shorting today got some good press.
