Koreans have already upped their holding limits of their own stonk market for their pension fund once.
And Korean commiegov decided to not release their pension funds meeting documents until their current commieprez steps down.
They pension fund is up A LOT, and if the people who run pension fund are normal people, they will start selling their own semi stocks to control risk of concentration.
If they don't?
Well... If they don't... If bobo scenario becomes true they will get royally raped and their entire boomers too.

>Joseph Briggs, who leads the global economics team at Goldman Sachs Research, said on a recent episode of the bank's "Exchanges" podcast that he expects about 9% of the US workforce to be displaced as AI is adopted across the economy.

>"9% of workers being displaced by AI would correspond to 15 million workers," Briggs said, comparing the scale of the shift to the tech-driven upheaval of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Those workers, he said, would have to leave their current positions and find new jobs.

GDX isn't a pfic stock but PSLV is.

PSLV is a PFIC (Passive Foreign Investment Company). You need to understand what this means if you've bought, or are planning to buy, PSLV. Search on the term and read about it. Basically, it means any foreign entity (PSLV is domiciled in Canada) whose income is primarily "passive" (e.g. from capital gains, dividends, or royalties). I'm not a tax specialist, so you should fade this post, but I will outline my understanding.

In every year that you own PSLV, you must file a PFIC form (Form 8621) with your return. If you don't, any capital gains in PSLV will be taxed using the highest income tax bracket, regardless of whatever tax bracket you actually fall into. That's currently 37%. Furthermore, any capital losses could only be used to offset gains in other PFICs, not gains on other investments.

All of this is a pain, but there's also a benefit. Precious metals and the ETFs that supposedly hold them are taxed at the collectibles rate of 28% if held for at least a year. But if you file the PFIC form for PSLV and hold it for at least a year, long-term capital gains rates apply. This can result in a nice tax savings.

Go to Sprott's website. Their PSLV prospectus should discuss this. They should also publish, annually, the information needed to complete the PFIC form. It would be a good idea to consult a tax specialist when doing so, at least the first time you need to do it.

This also applies to Sprott's other precious metals funds, PHYS and CEF. As an aside, CEF is currently trading at about a 4% discount. It holds both gold and silver: about 40 ounces of silver for each ounce of gold. If you want exposure to both, it's a little bit of a bargain at the moment.

most precious metals royalty companies are also PFICs, as they are domiciled in Canada. This includes FNV, WPM, SAND, OR, MMX, MTA, and others. The only one that I know of that is US-based, and thus not a PFIC, is RGLD.

>If you own it in an IRA this is moot

They don't get 5k a year, that's the max tax advantaged contribution from the parent. Plus up to 2.5k matching funds from their employer. It's absolutely a great deal and anyone with a kid should take it, for sure. But parents could already contribute 5-10k a year into custodial accounts or 529s. The tax advantage is awesome, but trump accounts have a limited set of index funds you're allowed to hold in them. This isn't going to elevate anyone to the hit 18 and retire teir that wasn't already there.

No, that is not true. A pfic gets has to be getting a certain amount of their income from passive income not operational income. So some foreign miners that haven't started production are pfics, but most active producers and royalty streams are not.

Bingo but you underestimate how propped up markets are these days. When every wage earner in America is conditioned to put 10% of their paycheck into the markets, it’s a lot more difficult to have sustained pullbacks. This Trump system is a search for new buyers, more money. Next they’ll have dead people buying preferred stock.

When I looked into it PSLV is a stock that also triggers the "collectable" taxation. I didn't know it also triggers PFIC. Fuck this is annoying, how do I add a bit of precious metals to my portfolio without getting this headache? I was originally going to pick individual stocks but then saw the potential tax headache so I went with ETF's. I thought I did a good job filtering which ones to avoid but now I second guess myself. Those etfs are all fine. They hold equities and most of those equities are operational mines. That guy is wrong. Not everything foreign is a PFIC. Just ones that don't get their income from operations, but passive holding of assets. The whole rule is because people were making companies in the Cayman Islands to hold their bonds and then only paying long term capital gains.

Mostly the inverse of your port with options, SPY puts, KRE puts, with some gold and TLT dabbling, a bit of JNK + KRE.

Most significantly, NVDA puts were a real money maker.

I don't need big moves like you to make a lot of money, I'm in and out in 20+ minutes and going all day long.
ITM/NTM options are roughly 100x leverage with capped losses.

My bags will be bigger than yours someday gloatsama, you best believe it.
I'm HUNGRY.
And them bags look tasty.
