this thread seems to be the only one tangentially related to businesses, and from what I've noticed, threads actually related to businesses don't survive for long in this board...
so I guess I'll just ask here.

I'm thinking of starting a small EV chaging station. I could buy a battery (that costs $20k), get energy from solar panels and maybe a small portion from the grid, the whole system would cost about $40k.
according to my calculations (some quick ones, I'm not really knowledgeable on this stuff at all), if I sold the full capacity of the battery each day on avg, I'd recover my money in about 6 years, so the ROI would be about a 15%/year (assuming nothing goes wrong...). is that a decent ROI for a business that has some risks, where everything is paid upfront?
on the other hand, the battery is kinda expensive, and would last about 10 years max...
as far as I know, the whole business would be semi-passive.
in your opinion, would something like this be worth it?

basically, I would not be able to "touch" the $40k, I'd recover my money in 6 years, and THEN I'd make some money. I guess the price of energy would kinda sorta protect me from inflation over time, so it wouldn't be too bad in that sense, and I'd get ~4 years of "free" returns. but again, I have little clue about any of this.

2 things that wont happen. Oil going above a certain amount(you can argue any amount for that matter but i can assure you it wont peak above 100$ a barrel)

Then the other thing is this war ending. The US is sending aircraft again after its initial failures. This means that the risk to reward is high enough for the US military to assume Air Superiority might be on the table. Does it stop Shaheeds from getting sent? no but it doesn't stop the US from bombing Iran to achieve whatever goal it wants to achieve.

Since a few weeks I worry that the training era of AI may be ending. Fable 5 and Sol are almost good enough for any task that an average wagedrone needs to do in his day to day life, so more training is less needed.
>>
>>62504415
What bullshit. Without training, there is no model. GPUs are what's used for training, as far as I know. Nobody talks about Google's TPUs. Ever. Random software won't suddenly train itself on thin air.

>Great learning experience
yeah. I wish I didn't feel the need to learn by doing, but I'm stubborn and a fucking retard when it comes to shit like this.

>id do it if 40k isn't that big of deal for you
it actually is... but I want to do something useful for others with that money, and I'm tired of my field (tech).
>>
>>62504427
Its not binary like no training or full training. Its if open source is 90% as good why waste 100B on training. Google had a paper leak on this, they figured open source was going to win. Not quite as good but significantly cheaper.
BUT if it goes open source every company will need servers or cloud to compute it all so Im with you buddy. Im bullish, just not training infastructure. I put in orders for koru, crdo, and nbis today.
>>
>>62504408
Are you really assuming things to go 100% right and well and using that as your ROI? Are you dumb?
You should assume you'll only use 75% or even half of the battery every day and that the solar panels will have issues like weather problems, maintenance because they broke or got stolen which in turn means you'd use more grid energy and that might be a lot more expensive.
Did you consider taxes? Insurance? Any other possible costs?

If you have paper hands then you might be suited for VOO and chill or for SCHD. Buy everything of SCHD and then you get paid every quarter. When markets are down SCHD doesn't suffer as much usually so it's easier for people like you to hold and the dividend payments help too.

>>62504408
>how many evs are in the area you want to put it

Its kind of like a laundry mat or carwash service. Shit always break, customers break shit, even if you fixed and cleaned up the place daily it would still be a low paying business. Most of these people have to own multiple locations to cover costs of the other lower preforming businesses/costs. Having a job while trying to run it would give you some liquid to inject into the business and fix up glaring issues that a poorer owner who only has that as a business is struggling to keep things running.

you need a detailed financial plan to evaluate the real potential, including the opportunity cost of just leaving your money where it is. Location location location. You could have a great idea but if you do not get the minium customers then you are going to lose everything. Do you buy the land, lease it, is it zoned for it, you will need all kinds of permits. What if its too cloudy for day and you gotta buy electricity for days or weeks during the winter. How much does all that cost. Lots of copper in them wires, there are lots of reports of illegals cutting the wires and stealing all the internals, high crime area? Do you sell them coffee, booze and hookers while their car is charging? How can you compete against Tesla or other providers, what software are you going to use and how much does that cost? You need a detailed assessment including weather forecasting and analysis available solar energy for the solar panels there are online calculators for that.
>>
>>62504471
I don't get the image
>>
>>62504436
>Are you really assuming things to go 100% right and well and using that as your ROI?
as I said, I've done some napkin math, and I actually did calculate based not on 100% of the capacity but about 70%, so it's a conservative estimation. I didn't even consider the injection from the solar panels themselves, so I assume it might even sell more than 100% on average as well.
but that's the thing: these estimates were pulled from my ass. I don't even know how to do a market study.

>weather problems, maintenance because they broke or got stolen which in turn means you'd use more grid energy and that might be a lot more expensive.
>Did you consider taxes? Insurance? Any other possible costs?
I haven't considered any of that in the math, but I did consider it in the list of risks.
from what I've read, solar panels do actually require little maintenance. my biggest worries are the battery and the payment systems. I guess I could fix hald that shit by myself, I work in tech and I like getting my hands dirty.
I also did consider taxes. not insurance. I'd have to do a deeper research to know what other costs there might be.

>>62504439
that's what I've thought. and I wish I could convert my land into a parking area, but I can't :/
but I do live in an area that has a few EVs during winter, and probably will have many more during summer

>>62504440
why do you say so?

>>62504440
nah, batteries are expensive. if I could just sell directly from the PV panels, the whole thing would be a lot cheaper. but solar panels can't give enough continuous power in my area

>>62504445
this won't give me much money. it's basically min wage in my country. this would be a sort of test to see if I could expand later, while also doing something else on the side... and maybe sell energy in other forms/for other uses as well. again, a small business.

>>62504408
If you have to buy electricity that's a lot of electricity, its going to be expensive. If you already had a business and a lot of excess electricity then it would make sense to give it a shot to see it it works out. How much do the permits cost, how long to obtain, how much to buy the chargers and sofware to run the chargers. I would get with one of the companies that install those and learn everything from them first, then develop your plan with all the experience you have. I worked some development projects where the company doing the work was a BIG US company and spending a lot of money but even they could not get the inspector to come out to sign off on an electrical connection. It took months of calling and finally they hired a high powered person to go meet with the mayor to get the inspection completed. What are you going to do the inspector just wont come out? Everywhere a permit is required some government slug is waiting for a payoff.

Seems like you're just looking for a way to monetize solar panels. As a chudsie Luddite I've always heard that most panels are shit and cost more in the long run than they generate but I digress.
Maybe a car wash/laundromat with solar panels to cut down on expenses? Or just put them on your house and just charge it back to the grid like most people with panels do?
As other anons have mentioned I think there's a lot more involved in making an EV charging station than it's really worth.

>you need a detailed financial plan to evaluate the real potential
I have no clue how to do something like this. I know some EEs that could do a technical analysis, but I doubt it would be a realistic one, and would probably not include much in the financial sense.
my money is parked in 5% interest/yr bank accounts

honestly, "not enough energy, come back later". or maybe charge a lot more $. it's what others do: charge more during night and cloudy days.

again, napkin math says $40k, maybe more though (charging stations are fucking expensive)

that's a really great idea actually. I guess I could get a job like that. not sure how, though. I'm a tech worker but I know almost nothing about electrical engineering or point of sale systems.

>inspections
I don't have experience in this area, but I assume that, as long as the paperwork is signed by an engineer, inspections will pass...
still, I would hire a competent person, not some random "electrician"

vns are really simple.
you have a couple written by authors who should have written actual novels, and then you have 30-40k that are just lilttle girls (literally, not like "ho ho tranime", i mean they have the mental capacity of 10 yr olds and talk like 10 year olds) overreacting to teacakes and coffee and other things served in the tokyo metropolitan area for 200 hours.

most of it isnt even pedoslop its just for troons who want to RP as one of the girls in a group of little girls.

Is MVST done or isn't it? I keep seeing analysts call it a very strong buy despite the drop from $5 to $1 in the last 10 months. I'll be really in the green if it goes to just $1.20 and will sell as soon as that happens, but I don't see how it will do that.

That's a fairly common opinion. My guess is that the big winners will be AMZN and GOOG overall. There's a lot of people in this general like this. They're just deadset on losing a lot of money and won't listen. It's hopeless to explain to them when everybody knows about a trade, buying it at the top of a hype cycle is not a good idea.

They don't realise when a trade is the hottest ticker out there, it's too late. You have to get in before the hype cycle starts, on early into it. Instead of buying into hype, write it off and jump on something else and if you still like it when it corrects you can go in.

>they can only affect fraction of saudi bound traffic
Saudi oil goes primarily to Asia, no? So it has to pass through the other strait, right by the Houthis. The Saudis could reroute through the Suez, but VLCCs would have to offload their oil at the canal, pump it through to storage, load back up after they've crossed, and then travel all the way around Africa and onward to Asia. I'm guessing that would be very, very expensive.

I believe it doesn't matter where Saudi oil goes, as long as it goes somewhere. Since it can still trivially leave for Europe, this means world market prices shouldnt be that affected.
>>62504822
Don't buy vidya stocks right now. All of the companies are mismanaged, every single last one, even Valve (yes I know they are private). All the console makers will struggle with ever increasing hardware costs.
>>
>>62504856
if oil hits $200, we'll go into recession. it would cause huge demand destructon.
>>
>>62504859
>I believe it doesn't matter where Saudi oil goes
It's not that simple. Refineries are geared for certain grades of oil and if European refineries currently taking US or Norwegian oil can't process Saudi grades, then that Saudi oil has nowhere to go.

Why is the TSX barely moving on the 50% tariff news? Is it just waiting for open to dump?

It seems much more serious this time with Trump knowing the legal route and being liable to act tough on trade until the mid-terms. Then again maybe Canada in general has hardened against tariff pressures over the past couple years.

>Why is the TSX barely moving on the 50% tariff news?
Because the media is full of shit, its a 50% tariff on like alcohol and grapefruit, IE: completely irrelevant.

But headlines like "Trump applies 50% tariff to $26.57 worth of Canadian exports to the US" doesn't generate the same amount of hate clicks and ad revenue as "OMG THE SKY IS FALLING THE BAD ORANGE MAN APPLIED A 50% TARIFF TO ALL OF CANADA!!"...

I've never given up my confidence for AI, and I rode the Deepseek 30% drawdown, I rode 2022 50% drawdown for the tech correction.

It's funny how there isn't another Deepseek drawdown because of Kimi. It's actually goes toe to toe with the frontier models, and Deepsee V2 was a temu model that was barely frontier.

Invest it into S&P 500 in weekly tranches and don't panic sell again
If you can resist panic selling for a year then you can start stockpicking again but be smarter about it, you panic because you lack confidence in your picks, and you lack confidence because you know you didn't research them properly

I'd say not yet as the downwards trend hasn't been broken yet, but I suspect that GOOG will pump semis hard on Wednesday, so you may be missing some of the innitial recovery.

Up to you, but I don't think we'll be dumping all that much anymore either way, where we're close to the bottom now.

Yeah I think it'll either go up or down tomorrow too

I'm not expecting GOOG to rip, I'm expecting semis to rip based off of GOOG's capex spending. If anything GOOG's likely to experience post-earnings dump.

trick some fag in government to subsidize this for you if you want to go this route talk to city council or whatever loud rich faggy liberals live in your town
>>
>>62505049
Yes, that's why I'm expecting this exact outcome, where the question is kind of about how huge the capex will be, whether it's slowing or accelerating, but I expect it to overshoot, which will likely make the stock dump, but maybe there will be something in there that would overcome that.

I think it was Google that claimed they would've had more revenue only if they could get their hands on more chips.

>3x leveraged ETFs on semiconductors by every faggot retard on earth

>asian degens started front running the rebalances
>feedback loop where rebalances got larger and larger and larger

something like 80% of SKHYs daily trade is just leveraged ETFs rebalancing.

No, it's the AI bubble popping.
>>
>>62505110

there was never an AI bubble because AI never made anything useful it was just a chip hype bubble fed by capex spend and retail gambling

at least the dotcom bubble ended up with the internet after.. we are going to end up with censored image generators and glorified online pen pals that Google things for you with some zesty fag energy

it produces revenue by google being the most capital efficient data centre company in the world

if there's a company that can make money off data centres, it's google. That's always been their specialty. No other company can compete. META and Microsoft try, Amazon is the only company anywhere near Google, but Amazon relies on third parties renting their compute. Google takes compute, and prints money with it, internally.
