A guy at the company I work at has been here for about 25 years.- His first 5 years here, he was a basic floor worker.- He moved up to shift leader for another 7 years after that.- After being a shift leader for 7 years, they told him he could be the department manager, but he had to get a Bachelor's Degree.- He got his Bachelor's Degree and has been the department manager for 10 years now.- The President of the company is leaving the position to work in R&D at the parent company. This is causing all of the lower positions to shift upwards.- The current general manager is going to be the vice president.- They told the department manager that if he wants to become the general manager, he now needs to get a Master's Degree, or the position will be filled by an outsider. Why is this a requirement? If he already knows what he's doing and has been at this company for 25 years, and has management experience for at least 17 of those years, why require a Master's Degree?
You sound dumb
>>62611197There's laws for that in some places. Could be internal regulations as well. It's risk reduction and PR.
>>62611271I was smart enough to quit that sinking ship months ago, but okay.
>>62611197They don't want to hire in house so they erect barriersBetter question is why you don't understand the value of new bloodAre you stupid? An outsider can learn the company far easier than an insider can learn the job
>>62611271your stupid comment is dumb
>>62611476It's funny you say that, because the complete opposite happened. When we were a purely private company with a single owner, our management team was perfect. EVERYTHING was completed on time, issues were addressed immediately, the owner literally came in every single day and talked to random employees and the managers. The business was BOOMING and customer satisfaction was extremely high. Even during recessions the company saw no loss in sales.Once we were sold to an S&P 500 parent company, immediately half of our management was phased out and "let go" within a couple months and outside management was brought in. Over the next several years, almost all of the old management team quit/retired or was "let go". We now have 2 original managers left and about 13 outsider managers. And guess what? Every single year since the parent company bought us, we've been losing customers, losing sales, stagnating revenue, issues no longer get addressed, overtime work is gone, etc. The place is literally falling apart from lack of safety and health maintenance, etc.
>>62611476>>62611518We also used to get treated to steak and lobster dinners for free with the original owner, multiple times a year. Now we get a few boxes of pizza once a year and our own shift leaders have to pay for it....
