Anime NYC is the largest anime convention on the East Coast, in the biggest city in the US. Many technical and complex cosplays and lots of skimpy cosplays in this one.

When: AUG. 21 – 24, 2025
Where: JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER
>>
Boring as fuck con that ends before 11pm
>>
>>10950403
I was thinking about going to this one, why's it boring?
>>
>>10950404

I'm just being a curmudgeon. It's fine. If you're within an hour it's a no brainer.
>>
>>10950400

Used to be good when it was still NYAF.
>>
>>10951302
>The New York Anime Festival was an anime and manga convention held annually from 2007 to 2011

What happened?
>>
Boy, I can’t wait to deal with narcissistic instagram cosplayers, the Chinese taking up half the entrance for their garbage photoshoots, obnoxious women on 4 antidepressants thinking every guy is trying to hit on them, crappy booths, sold out plamo, and no signal!
>>
>>10951427
The New York Anime Festival was run by Reedpop (who runs New York Comic Con). When Reedpop established C2E2, they moved New York Comic Con to the fall. NYCC not only took NYAF's 'time slot', it absorbed/integrated NYAF into NYCC (first year on the merge, the anime/manga vendors were in 'NYAF' marked aisles/areas, then they outright eliminated any mention of NYAF). Leftfield Media runs Anime NYC; and a bunch of former people involved with NYCC and Reedpop were involved in the formation/operation of Anime NYC.
>>
Just bought a 4 day pass, what am I in for?
>>
Don't bother waiting in the enormous line to get in that will wrap around for blocks, just go straight to the intersection of 34th & 12th where the bollards are and walk past whatever staff may or may not be there. Instead of taking hours to get in you walk right to security.
>>
I remember a few years ago there was a lad in a full Gundam costume at this.
>>
>>10950403

More like it ends at 6pm. The second the sun dips low, people leave.

>>10950404

It's a con with a vendor hall and artist alley and nothing else. All the panels are ads. If you aren't buying something or consuming advertising, they will do everything to push you out of the con asap.

New York gets real dangerous after dark
>>
>>10953871
Maybe in the 1980's, but now it's been completely commercialized and stripped of any sharp edges. Although in retrospect I did see a bunch of black dudes livestreaming themselves beating the shit out of a dude two blocks from the convention center while walking to the subway last ComicCon.
>>
>>10953872
You're off the mark, it did get safer since the 80s but the last 5 years crime has began to rise a lot again, I've had tons of friends who grew up working in the city stop and completely uproot their lives because of it
>>
>>10950400

Point and case. Go home before dark or suffer the consequences of NY at night.
>>
Is New York eternally cursed to have shit cons?
>>
>>10954377
New York is eternally cursed in general.
>>
damn thread is dead, guess no one is going
>>

People talk shit about ANYC where you can watch multiple world premieres and then say Otakon is amazing when some retard stumbles through a powerpoint and they can't figure out the audio in a panel.
>>
>>10955897

Both have bad panels, Premieres are pointless when everything leaks or can be pirated early. But Otakon has parties and ANYC has what exactly?
>>
>>10955928
If you care about vtubers, the biggest vtuber event in America. If you don't IDK because that's what I'm there for. Also Otakon parties are ass I went to a few at Soundcheck and they weren't even on the level of the Rave when it was in Baltimore. If you're watching leaks of premires early you're just cucking yourself and then wondering why you have nothing to do kek.
>>

couldn't find a more horrid group of people if you tried, just used nycc to buy playmats

NYC , now expect more apes & illegals surrounding the con to rob & beat whoever they think they can beat for fun, hopefully they target the wrong nerd who is packing heat and shoot some of this scum for good
New York is a big piece of shit , over priced, over taxed , over crowded

>>
I went to otakon this year as my first con, got excited and looked into more shit and now I see this con ends at 7pm on a Friday? There's no way man. Stuff at otakon was going on until 2am the next day then started back up at 8. Is it really because NYC is dangerous? My new standard for cons is otakon, so I dont know what to expect from other places.
>>
>>10950400
Anime NYC is such fucking trash, man.
>>
>>10956117
>If you care about vtubers
lol
No. I'm an anime fan, not a parasocial gambling addict.
>>
Not really an anime fan, but I'm having a super depressing summer (mourning a loss) and my friend is trying to convince me to pop out for this to cheer me up. People like cosplay other things right?
>>
>>10959001
Nah you don't have to cosplay anime. Go with your friend and cosplay as one of your favourite characters from a movie or video game or something. You'll have a great time I'm sure.
>>
Great con for prostitutes
>>
>>10958995
VTubers aren't gacha retard.
>>
>>10958987

It ends early because they want you gone so they don't have to pay the people working there. This is corporate, no-fun-allowed, no-party con. which is the exact opposite of Otakon. Otakon is shit in other ways, though.
>>
>>10950400
fucking onlyfans advertisement campaigns irl
when will it stop?
>>
>>10959299
>Otakon is shit in other ways, though.
may I ask in what ways? I have not been there before
>>
>>10956412
You can tell this is some suburbian kid from middle america typing out his fantasies, those "vendors" are harmless, you literally just have to look like you don't take anyone's shit and you're fine
>>
>>10954368
This might surprise you but the girl in the photo isn't the one who put the sign there.
I've told this story before but I think she might be the same girl who openly told me she would've been down to fuck if she hadn't known I was interested until the last day of the con. Definitely the same costume, looked similar, and was from NY.
>>
> didn't get into the signing for tsuda
Time to cancel
>>
I don't understand what the thursday is for. It starts a 4pm and it's only 4-5 hours for 50$. I guess its just supposed to lighten the load on friday morning?
>>
Are (You) planning to go to any of the Hololive shows?
>go back, ew vtubers, fuck off, etc...
That stuff runs Friday night, Saturday evening, and Sunday evening, so anybody who is mostly there for vtuber stuff will probably clear out by like 3PM on the biggest days of the weekend.
Whether that makes the vendor hall a ghost town or just lets the con breathe a little I have no idea.
>>
>Jojo and BL pannels at the exact same time as the AMV contest on friday
Where the organizers retarted? Why did they schedule two of the three pannels that I wanted to attend like this
To anyone whos been to AnimeNYC: do the AMVs shown use niggerbabble music? When i think of an AMV i still think of shit like three days grace and disturbed, but the N in NYC stands for NIGGER, so i dont want to be lured into the jungle based off my pretenses of good culture
>>

Having never been to this and being out of state, it seems like a hell of a trek to make but also would be nice to experience just once, but it also seems like people have pointed out you're just going for vendors and to sight see. Is the surrounding area worth seeing after the con closes for the day?
>>
>>10959704
As a NYC resident, no. Manhattan fucking sucks dick unless you're some yuppy hipster who enjoys drinking overpriced IPA's. Wait 2-3 years when prostitutes become legal.

>>10959704
NYC is one of the worst cities in terms of things to do. Everything is needlessly expensive, it's absolutely filthy, and there are too many homeless people. Even the con sucks compared to other cons

>>
>>10959719
In general it was a great con. Considering the travel and hotel ontop of the ticket price idk if I can fuck with this again. Otakon is so much busier partially because of venu constraints but it just felt like it had more going on, likley partially because of it not closing at 11.
The dealer's room was humongous, for sure a big magnet (met an artist I've seen online for a while). Good indie dev showcases too. Console gaming looked weak, but maybe the state of console gaming at a con in 2025 is just
>smash
>project diva/ persona dancing
>2d fighters
>mario kart
Arcades were good. Didn't play ttgs or tcgs but looked healthy.
I like the one giant panel room hall even if those room numbers are a pain to keep track of. Getting into the building from the side took a minute of walking but I'm so damn pleased at how easy and flowing the crowds were in getting in.
8/10, I wasn't let down but I was told this would put Otakon to shame. I saw a lot of Viz snd other major company brand representation with events and booths but in general felt like it had less programming and shorter hours of op than Ota.
>>
>>10959606
why do people go to a football game when you can just watch the game on tv? why do people go to concerts when you can just listen to the songs at home?

>>
>>10959719
It was really annoying hearing the zoomer virgins/spiritual virgins crying about the "gooner corner" or spazzing out when they'd see anything remotely ecchi.
Zoomers killed anime conventions. If it isn't hoyoshit or popular on crunchyroll after the girl cosplayers christened it safe, it's gooner shit to them.
>>
>>10959769
Ask them if they want to get lunch or dinner together some time and continue to build rapport. The key part is making the effort to stay in regular contact.

It has the most people, which means it also has the most minorities. Not the highest proportion of minorities, but the most individuals by number. New York and California are the money pits/population pits on their respective coasts, that's why anyone with half a brain stays away.

those people are always hypocrites because the moment the thing they want to coom over is deemed "safe" they'll turn into gooners themselves over it. seriously it's retarded though how zoomers have gotten so puritan over fiction, it's probably that deep down they don't want to be judged by their peers and cancelled for being a "diddy blud pdf file"
>the girl cosplayers christened it safe
i've seen many female cosplayers get harassed for cosplaying sexy versions of "underage" characters like marin, asuka, raven, misty, etc. doesn't matter that it's an ADULT WOMAN doing the fucking cosplay, or that in many cases the official creators did ecchi of their own characters, that canon age is all that matters even if the only source on it is some fandom.com wiki page that anyone can edit, and more importantly that it's a fictional character that's not fucking real
