>ITT: Dating in the hobbySeems like there is a tough barrier to work through when it comes to trying to keep your partner within the hobby. My ex hated cosplay and anime and it has done nothing but drive me to want to date cosplayers, more to help them afford better cosplays and all that, as well as just enjoy cons together and all that stuff. All the apps try and say that you can narrow down your search, or apps like Boo, but it just ends up being normies who either catfish or ghost. Is there an actual place or app to use that isn't dog shit? At the same time I've found that cosplayers generally want to be left alone at cons while they do their thing.
Best way I’ve found is to get their social media in just a friendly manner, not in a super hit on-ish way. After the con whenever they post a story or post about the con, respond to said story/post about how nice it was to meet them and use it to open a dialogue with them in the DMs. Start by talking shop but gradually begin to test the waters with social life things, but all within the flow of the conversation. Once you learn more about them as a person and have chatted some, only THEN do you shoot your shot, but don’t wait too long because waiting too long and then hitting on them makes you come across as disingenuous. Cosplay girls either want drunk hookups or want the long game with dm messages, talking shop and then gradually becoming more than friends if the interest is reciprocated.
>>10961579This is the way to do it.
>>10961180>Is there an actual place or app to use that isn't dog shit? The short answer is no, the long answer is that the current meta is to force Instagram into being a dating app, so basically do what >>10961579 said. But at the same time, the last girl I dated (who I'm convinced might be a regular on this board, if you're reading this hello!) was someone I met through one of the big three dating apps that fall under your dog shit description.
>>10961180Past a certain age cosplaying is basically impossible to do with any dignity. Especially if you're a man. And you shouldn't need to have the same hobbies as your spouse. If you think you need to have that in common with your boyfriend you're probably just going to be alone for the rest of your life.
>>10961892>Past a certain age cosplaying is basically impossibleI once saw a literal granny win a vontest cosplaying the fairy godmother from shreck 2
>>10961895Yeah, that's great. Nothing's stopping you from cosplaying an old person, but the number of characters you have to choose from and can pull of drops dramatically. And men in general are more interested in replicas of props and accessories than in the costumes.
>>10961892>>10961896>cosplaying is all about looking good and not fandom expressionYou are the cancer that killed this culture. Kill yourself.
>>10961899>this cultureIt's a hobby.
>>10961892completely wrong and out of touch
>>10961180>exno one wants used goods
>>10961986>no one wants used goodsyeah because EVERYONE gets a qt 18.0000001 yo debt free virgin without tattoos, right, right? wrong
>>10961987>18ew hag
>>10961988cool story permavirgin NEET
>>10961989I have sex with men, because they're less gay than dealing with woman bullshit
>>10961991lul
>>10961180You're not getting one of the cosplay models. You're going to have to settle for regular cosplayers without that ego and extra attention from men online. Those men are all playing the same game. Liking Instagram stories and posts. Saying hi in person. Posting pictures they got together in their photo dumps and tagging them. Perhaps dming occasionally. Just being in their notifications hoping they'll recognize and open a longer line of communication. All the men are doing it. Some make the mistake of buying things from their wishlists. If you do that you lose all hope of ever being seen as a human to them. So you can play the long game with the cosplay influencer types who will engage in conversation with you occasionally at cons and you'll see them in room parties sometimes, but unless you pretend not to know who they are they probably think you're a creep for following them. They know anyone interested in them that has their social media is only interested because of their looks and skimpy cosplays and those girls want something genuine too but it's harder to convince them of that. Regular cosplayers that don't really have a following or don't really post their cosplays (maybe they're kinda shitty or they don't care about that kind of thing)are much easier to befriend and date. And they can improve cosplay wise if you find one you like. You get their Instagram and engage with their posts, if they have a discord server they're in join and show your personality there. Go to outside of con meet ups they go to. Basically what won't work on the influencers will work on normal girls because no one is doing that to them and the model types get it from many. Friday night is the last time you can get socials to ask about what plans they have for Saturday night or if they heard of anything going on or if you have.then the Instagram game
>ask for dating advice>all answers mention instagrampeople here dont leave their basements
>>10962000Women want to talk first. You're not going to ask someone on a date and they say yes at these events. They're there for the con
>>10962000have you never been to a convention?insta is the default
>>10961180Is it weird if I would be down to have a cosplay gf because I like making things and would like to help contribute to a hobby I can't afford to do?
>>10961892Correction: Cosplaying twinky teenager animu characters past a certain age is basically impossible to do without dignity. If you’re cosplaying high school aged people and your age begins with a 3 either cosplay someone age appropriate or neck yourself. Hell there’s some characters that just don’t look good when cosplayed by “younger” people. Solid Snake, Obi Wan Kenobi, Batman, Asuma Sensei just to name a few. There’s plenty of “age appropriate” characters to cosplay AND look good as, just don’t be a degenerate who only seeks to be a high schooler or feminine twink
>>10961996There is a way around to this, and it’s “be handsome”. Had a costhot with 100k followers who my buddy (who is overweight and slovenly but that’s my boy) simps over hardcore give me her IG and follow me because I did an alright Captain America cosplay. She’d respond to my stories and like one every now and then but never DM’ed me, I guess she thought that liking my story was enough of a green light to initiate messaging? My buddy was like “dude how did you do it?” And all I could tell him was that I was better looking than he was (not in an insulting way) and took more care of myself and not drooling all over her.
>>10962077>If you’re cosplaying high school aged people and your age begins with a 3 either cosplay someone age appropriate or neck yourself.Don't even get me started on the "3000 year old lolis"
>>10961996I hate any loser who buys gifts off their wishlists. It's cringe & pathetic. Plus it's manipulative of the costhots who have one. I wouldn't spend ANYTHING on them. Because I've heard so many horror stories.
As a man trying to date in this hobby is an uphill battle especially if you aren't super attractive it will be an uphill battle as you will be unfortunately competing with other men for this cosplay girl's attention.
>>10961180“The sexy, Catwoman cosplayer isn’t gonna happen, buddy. The chubby girl in the Legend of Zelda shirt is more your speed.”
>>10962128Horror stories? One time one of them posted that she'd send feet pics to whoever bought a specific cosplay on her Instagram story, then someone did buy it and there was an auto notification thing on Twitter, then she deleted the story lmao. That's the extent of what I've seen and I imagine there's similar instances but horror stories sounds like there's more to it than that
>>10962135I don't know, I know this tiny cosplayer who is adult. Her bf? The stereotypical fat nerd. I talked to him, too. He's not into comic books, to my surprise, but he is into pro wrestling.Don't give up, anon. If HE can find someone, there's home.
>>10962177*hope
Be thankful because dating in cosplay is full of landmine women for the most part>credit score begins with a 5>debt is out the ass due to conventions who max out their CC's for "free points">See I can't get a normal full-time job because....>I'm actually diagnosed with... by who? Oh just like webmd and stuff lolIt's not impossible but I gave up when I was about to hit the big 30, far easier to explain to some normie what cosplay is just saying "Oh yeah comic con for like anime fans". The amount of domapine hits regular cosplay women who aren't fat get at cons needs to constantly be refilled to the point you know they are going to fuck around.
>>10962242normies wouldnt know what comic con is anyway
>>10962243they all do
>>10962243they know, but they'd be put off once they find out>the smell>the lines to get in
>>10962243Anon, lmao please be joking. Everyone and their grandmother knows Comic Cons are the norm, do you not remember the decade of marvel slop and other superhero comic book shit? Every zoomie knows pokemon etc.>>10962249Disagree when I've done it with normie women we usually just go later in the day after lunch where we have a few drinks, grab and uber, and the ticket lines are basically 0 or just walk around the lobby areas. Most girls just play it up as "Oh this is what you nerds like to do huh?".
>>10962242This. Dating poor people is awful, they can't join you on the regular con trips you go to and always have shitty jobs they can't get the hours off from anyway. Why is it so hard trying to find someone in my own salary bracket? (I'd be happy with ever half of that)
>>10962243And yet another totally out of touch post
>>10962242The thing is, normal dating economy still exists in the cosplay world. People assume it's an easy out and since there are people into the same stuff they are that they don't have to worry about the same stuff. It's simply not true.>High population of males>Lower population of females>Males are desperate for females>Hobby is expensive by nature>Hobby attracts the mentally ill>Still involves social skillsHonestly, you're better off leaning into cosplay as one of your hobbies in the real world on dating app or something. Seeking out partners in this "community" is just asking for trouble
>>10962336>Honestly, you're better off leaning into cosplay as one of your hobbies in the real world on dating app or something. Seeking out partners in this "community" is just asking for troubleYou must be a girl. I've had multiple women tell me the same thing but any guy in the community can tell you how blatantly untrue it is for us. 90% of normal men are fine with a girl who cosplays, many will even enjoy it even if they're not into anime or the hobby. 90% of normal women, on the other hand, won't give the time of day to a guy that admits to being into anime, much less going to cons or god forbid dressing up at them.
>>10962440I've been noticing on the apps lately that a lot of hot women who don't seem like they're remotely into weeb shit started mentioning anime in their bios, which I eventually understood to be a filter to weed out guys that are into anime.
>>10961988get in the woodchipper pedo
>>10962454"anime gaming" is also a term that onlyfans bots use
>>10962242You forgot the "she has an onlyfans that she earns $100 a month at most off of and thinks that posting a few dirty mirror selfies on there is going to magically make her a millionaire. >>10962471>>10962440>>10962336>>10962334>>10962271>>10962248wrong!
>>10962511...Oh. Well that settles it then. You sure showed everyone what's up
>>10962511shit they got dubs and we didn't, our arguments are demolished..
>>10961579Do I get to sniff their feet then?
>>10962471>meet girl at con>we are getting along good>she does OF, has to mention this weirdly out of context or correct place>alright not my ideal lifestyle but hey if you gotta put bread on the table then you gotta do something>ask how much they make "Oh not a lot like 2 maybe 300 dollars a month maybe lol">find out not even working full time at some BS job but "Could totally pick up more hours but my mental health and stuff..."Bitch, you ain't doing SHIT on OF for cash you're doing it because you need a dopamine hit from (probably indian) guys telling you how bootyful you are and love vagen. Like I have nothing against those who do OF if they need it to get by or have some bit and that's what they want to do, but you're telling me you're posting your ass on the web for what essentially comes down to 2-3 extra days on the job at most? Nah GTFO of here you're doing it because something else or making some bullshit up about the $ that comes in.
>>10962551Well duh. It's the same reason they post on Instagram. The attention and feeling desired. OF takes it a step further because knowing someone is willing to pay something because they're so attracted to you is part of it
at a con i went up to a couple where a woman was cosplaying swimsuit zelda while her boyfriend was just in normal clothing. i complimented her and then asked her if i could take a picture of her, but then she declined. why is that?
>>10962556You were supposed to ask for a picture with her boyfriend. Rookie mistake
>>10962551>you're doing it because you need a dopamine hit from (probably indian) guys telling you how bootyful you are and love vagenBelle Delphine, who made millions on the platform despite never showing nipple and was basically set for life when she retired the first time (her bf managed her finances so they did everything correctly and invested most of the money), infamously came back to do hardcore anyway despite never needing to touch porn again, neither softcore like she was doing previously or otherwise. Having millions and never needing to think about money again is simply less important than the horror of being forgotten after having been as famous as she was at her peak if you're a woman.
>>10962571Anon Belle Delphine is one of the exceptions to the norm. People are obviously talking about the very common, terribad with finances yet still goes to the cons whale hunters. The discussion isn't the fact they choose to do it, but the reasoning behind it being such dogshit that it makes doing it more of a deplorable act than anything.
>>10962537Suck start a shotgun footfag
>>10962556>giving attention to women with normie bfsNever talk to them ignore and dont look at them
1.) Only women should ever cosplay, and even then it should be discouraged as a soft core degeneracy that usually leads to at least one count of prostitution.2.) Given #1, there is no dating within what you consider to be a hobby. Find somewhere better to source a longterm mating partner.
Please hear my warning, don't date the le quirky chungus girls. You might think to yourself how nice it would be to date a girl who's into video games, anime, cosplay, nerdy shit, etc, but it's a total shitshow after the 2 weeks novelty wears off.The drastic male to female ratio in those hobbies (90-10 most of the time) will give them insane levels of attention and the desire to jump to one of the 300 dudes in her DMs who all have at least one thing better than you is something they'll hyper focus on.Their consumption of idealize media means that you'll have to compete with dudes that literally are physically impossible and they'll hate you for it.Their sexuality is fucked, and not in a good way. I'm talking hitachi wand on the clit full speed whilst reading werewolf billionaire rape porn. Good luck getting them off. Most have some form of mental illness. Women are already fucking insane, add autism or adhd or bpd on there and you'll want to kill yourself. There's a weird thing that happens to women with an online presence relating to stuff like that. They're gonna become obsess with other women who have slightly more followers or go in a depressive spiral if they get less popular (which always happens when a brand new 22 years old appears to replace them as the new princess of the month)Please please take it from a guy who's been with a bunch of them and has been burned again and again. Not worth it, find yourself a girl who likes baking, puppies and going to the cinema I beg you.
>>10963110i am literally too autistic to hold a conversation with someone that doesnt share same hobbies... and also the cosplay sex...

>>10963110i will date them
>>10963130If it's just a spergy girl with an affected deep voice that shouldn't be any problem. If they're actually on T or want the arm skin pp then yeah nah
>>10963104>Only women should ever cosplay Yeah that’s a nope from me Chief, some chick can’t pull of a space marine you absolutely retarded profligate
>>10963130They say they’re FTM every time anon but id say a solid 75% never go through with top surgery and such. The first time they see how hard guys have it and get treated like a man by other men (ie: guys not being needlessly nice to them because they want to bone, buying them drinks, acting like they’re interesting etc) or are treated poorly by other women prettier than them they hate the lack of attention and feeling ugly and end up reverting back to being a chick. The whole process usually takes 1-3 years so if you’re set on someone anon just wait it out or keep an eye out for chicks toward the end of this cycle.
>>10963130As the other anon said, most of them never take testosterone. You just have to put up with them referring to themselves as guys if you want to date them
>>10963137>>10963139wrong!

If you’re in your teens or older, not a cripple (and actual cripple, not “disabled” like many in the cosplay community like to say) and can’t lift at least 50 pounds over your head you aren’t a man in the eyes of the world and will never be one.
>>10963168bet you cant lift 50 pounds either LOL
>>10963168bet none of those men youre talking about can handle being called small dicked
>>10963169I lift way more than that at work…. Try again biological female. I got nothing against people wanting to be happy…but DEMANDING people call you a “man” whilst doing everything (and I do mean everything) counterintuitive to the way men are/do things/present themselves, still presenting 100% feminine and in some cases even refusing to interact with cis men because they’re “UwU scawwy”? Calling someone a Nazi because they called you “miss” instead of “sir” because you’re a biological female in a dress with long hair and tita? Those types will never earn my respect. >inb4 “cis men are androgynous sometimes too” yeah but being born a woman, putting on women’s clothes and makeup and pretending to be a man who ,is in turn, pretending to be a woman isn’t being a “drag queen” it’s being cis with extra steps.
>>10963170You’d be surprised, unlike trans men, most cis men can take a joke without breaking down into tears and making a six slide Instagram callout story. Thanks again ma’am.
