aesthetically coomable, you're probably going to read this here, you did an amazing job
>>
>>10961879
I'm excited although I'm mostly only going because I live 15 min from the con and I've been going since high school. Happy to see the con seems to finally have more of its shit in order this year
>>
Harpo's is a CRAZY choice for a anime party.
>>
>>10962530
I was just telling my friend about this. It's located in the fucking hood far away from the convention and apparently it's just going to be a bunch of ghetto cosplay thots. I still have no idea who in their right mind would do some dumb shit like this.
>>
>>10962530
Honestly, it's a great choice but it's far away from the con. However, it's hosted concerts from various major groups along with a few pro wrestling promotions (Game Changer Wrestling, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, Circle 6, and a few others)
>>
>>10962531
It looks like something I’d see at a hood gas station next to a missing person flyer

Yeah it does look like a ghetto venue and not really what you'd expect from a concert venue
>>
>>10962532
>>10962531
I know the area well. If y'all are going, just be careful. It's not a neighborhood I would be walking around in. People have been stuck up and robbed walking to their cars over the years here.
>>
>>10962538
I honestly don't understand what was going through the host's mind when choosing the location? Of all places you choose the hood to host an anime party. I asked a couple people I know who live in the city and they even said they wouldn't go anywhere near there.
>>
>>10962530
maybe they'll finally turn the floor on
>>
>>10962542
To be fair here, I was thinking the same thing. It ain't really an accesible venue. Though to be honest here, I'd probably pick St. Andrews Hall, the Majestic, or one of the night clubs near the venue since the majority of venues in the downtown and midtown area are accessible via. the People Mover and Q Line.
>>
>>10962538
>optimus crime
they did it for teh meems
>>
>>10962560
It's also Halloween weekend. Everything else is already booked up with other parties. They need to move this con to the week after Halloween. The first year I ever went in 2011 it took place on the first weekend of November.
>>
>>10962530
Yeah Harpos is fucking wild for a venue. Nothing says "Weeb Friendly Party" like "run down venue off I-94 that even juggalos are starting to stick their nose up at"
>>
>>10962560
>>10962573
Yeah guarantee you they planned this last minute and realized that pretty much every other venue was booked up. In some cases there's already another unofficial after-party that's taking up another spot (doesn't the High Dive in Hamtramck usually do one?)

And I doubt youmacon is ever going to move to a different time. It's kinda always been their thing and now Motor City Comic Con just keeps running their fall show the weekend after.
>>
>>10962578
Here's the high dive one. And I believe the shipping company place is doing one also.
>>
I remember they had passes just for the dealers hall. Are they doing that again this year? That's all I care about.
>>
>>10962577
Honestly, I'm starting to see now fucked up that area really is now. I'm somewhat of a pro wrestling fan myself and I've watched a few events that were there. Looked alright on the inside until you see how bad the neighborhood around the venue is. Not surprised ICP didn't book the venue after June of last year but I guess Brett Lauderdale (owner of Game Changer Wrestling) didn't get the memo yet as he has continued to book the venue for Detroit shows. Hopefully there's going to be more venues opening up near the downtown area than what we already have so these rave and con party organizers can at least have more options out there.
>>
>>10962693
The weird thing is the person hosting the anime party at harpos is known for throwing other anime parties specifically at the venues in the hood so this ironically isn't something out of the blue.
>>
why didn't they try for city club
>>
Sooo an Halloween party in detroit's ghetto? Thanks but no thanks i still love my organs lel
>>
>>10962693
That's the main area I pick up hookers. There's like 4 crack houses that I know of within walking distance of Harpo's. Maybe someone can lose their virginity while they're there.
TNA held BOUND FOR GLORY last year at the Wayne State Fieldhouse. Seemed like a decent big venue for wrestling. Not sure how busy it is to book. But Harpo's hardly ever has anything going on, so I'm sure it's just an easy and cheap place to book random events.
>>
>>10962770
A weirdo coworker of mine books up studios in the WSU field house all the time for his various get-rich-quick-schemes, so it can't be that expensive. And speaking as someone who went there, WSU is perpetually broke as hell and desperate for money.
>>
Does the room party discord server still exist?

the con runs until 1am why would you leave at 9 and go to this? aM i missing something?
>>
>>10962856
All the room party discords have been dying it seems. To many pedos, underaged teens and thinned skined troons.
>>
>>10962864
Pretty much this in addition to the weird drama they would get into. I had to stop associating with those discords and the people because they always gave off a weird vibe.
>>
>>10962863
Some dude is just trying to make a quick buck off of weebs and/or trying to fuck a cosplayer
>>
>>10962885
It’s actually being ran by some black cosplay girl. I looked more into it and the advertising for it is ghetto as hell with a bunch of cosplay thots and rappers making appearances.
>>
>>10962892
then it's probably her just trying to become e-famous, or she was banned from youma years ago. It's always those two or a dude trying to get laid
>>
>>10962819
Oof. That's fucked up for a college. To be honest, their arena surely needs a few more events to fill in for the time they have without their basketball and volleyball games in my opinion and unfortunately they just haven't been able to do that. Metro Detroit honestly needs a new small arena for concert promoters to use and this seems perfect for it. It's got a perfect spot for a stage along with the arena seating we come to expect. It really reminds me of the Compuware Arena over in Plymouth that sadly hasn't hosted any concerts in a long time.
>>
>>10962961
They probably won't do things like that because they're so stuck with just having sports, which is why when they have things besides student athletics, it's just B and C tier leagues of stuff. It was basically built to house a developmental team for the Pistons and be a training facility that also sometimes does other stuff.

Can't really expect much else from a university that fucked up my financial aid, didn't tell me, let me dine and dash on a semester, kicked me out for not paying and still sends "Please donate" letters every month.

God damn, discord really did steal all of the youmacon posters.
>>
>>10963026
finally out! theres some really good panels this year thank god.
>>
>>10963127
Taking my GF to her first youmacon and have to keep reminding her while looking through the schedule that there is a high chance of panels still either a) being a weird group therapy session or b) someone who isn't as funny as they think trying to lure a crowd in with an (18+) sign

Still think about the "WOAH LOOK AT THESE MESSED UP VIDEOS (18+ ADULTS ONLY)" panel I went to that was literally just a dude playing his vtuber fan video playlist

I'll be arriving to the venue in the morning.
>>
>>10962530
I'm currently in the area picking up hookers. There was a shooting at Harpo's tonight. So yeah, enjoy at your own risk. There was police everywhere and everything was taped off when I got out here around 12:30 a.m.. Bunch of people outside too
>>
>>10963254
Yeah that's for sure enough to get that rave cancelled honestly. Nobody wants to be doing that in an area that had a shooting just a day ago.
>>
Though honestly, I suggest getting in contact with local news in the area regarding that shooting.
>>
I thought I might get used to it, but no RenCen continues to wreak havoc on my vibe. Doesn't help that they've given up on decorating or doing anything to give this con some semblance of atmosphere or identity. The venue being so good was a huge part of what made Youma the con it was. I don't give a shit if fatties didn't like walking for a few minutes between buildings. Strolling through the riverwalk when it was full of cosplayers was a great feeling.

Where the fuck are people supposed to congregate and socialize anymore? I miss the Marriott's bar like you wouldn't believe.

JAFAX and Isshocon both kick the shit out of this soulless husk.

Went to the retro high dive rave. I don't care if hardly anybody showed up. The DJ played nothing but 90's to 2000's anime openings. All the shit I had on my iPod growing up. I walked in the middle of him playing "Pegasus Fantasy". Shit was so cash
>>
>>10963341
Is this somebody's hand?!
>>
>>10963385
Seems comfy. The main rave was kinda mid, mostly just house music with 30second anime-themed transitions. I think the room is also just too big, people sitting so far away in the chairs in the back makes a weird vibe. I wonder if any anons went to the shipping co one or the dance in the other ballroom (there being so many options feels like a bad thing to me, I dunno.)
>>
>>10963396
I definitely agree that there were way too many options. But that's the cons fault for being so shitty and not 24 hours anymore.

Panels were so hit or miss this year. Ones I went to were:

>Pretty okay but low hanging fruit "what if pokemon were real but scary" panel that got a neckbeard in the audience trying to cohost
>Fan Dubbing panel that was just a bunch of tiktokers trying to promote themselves aggressively
>Politician or Anime quote panel that turned into "WAYNE STATE IS BROKE AND PICKING ON THE JAPANESE PROGRAM SIGN MY PETITION"
>18+ Cosplay Confessional panel that the host didn't show up to and it's just 30-somethings from the audience reminiscing about how conventions used to not suck
>>
did anyone else see the two girls dressed as sneed and chuck
>>
>>10963558
Classic Batgirl…….nice.
>>
>>10963677
>18+ Cosplay Confessional panel that the host didn't show up to
I was there too, it was pretty grim. The ninja warrior panel was way more interesting than I thought it'd be, just a solid comfy informational panel. I wanted to see the GACKT panel too but couldn't make it.
>>
>>10964017
It wasn't as bad as I expected honestly. Pretty nice hearing people bitch about red wings fans bullying people on the people mover and talking about confused normies working for GM. The one troon talking about supposedly "fighting off proud boys at a costume party/no kings protest" was dumb as fuck though
