I'm new to cosplaying.Do most people just buy their cosplays? It feels kinda lame to me to buy one instead of making it. Do I just have the wrong mindset?
>>10962368Most people buy their cosplays nowadays because a lot of people dont have the craftsmanship and sewing skills to do stuff. Its ok of you think store bought cosplay is lame because something made from scratch is worthy of praise
>>10962368No, you're right. Making everything is still seen as the highest standard, and that's what the competitions are for. But the pre-made ones are so good, the hobby is accessible to more people now, and they are the majority. But unless you weave your own cloth, make your own shoes, underwear and wigs, there will always be someone who looks down on you.
>>10962368>Do most people just buy their cosplays? yes>It feels kinda lame to me to buy one instead of making it.most people want to cosplay whatever FOTM thing is popular, they're not gonna spend time and effort making something just for it to be irrelevant by the time they do. think of all the social media likes they could miss out on!

>>10962368Personally speaking I prefer to buy cosplays instead of making them. I suck at sewing and I have no interest in doing competitions. I just want to look good while dressing as my fav character and since I suck at sewing I prefer to buy the cosplay on Ali/Miccostume or, if I have the budget, to commision it to another cosplayer. However I still try to make other things by myself like wigs or props (that's why I've bought a 3d print). There could plenty of reasons of why some cosplayers prefer to buy instead of making the costume and not always has to be with being on trend (personally I don't have time to learn how to sew or other skills because I have to juggle my time between my job and my studies). The problem is when cosplayers say that the costume was made entirely by them while it's clearly bought from a store or when they don't give credits to the wigmaker/propmaker/etc that made the costume
>>10962368>Do most people just buy their cosplays? Here in asia outside the instagram models, most people buy something off "cheap asian website" of the season that has good prices and just fix it up at home or something.>It feels kinda lame to me to buy one instead of making it.If you have the free time to do so, do it not everyone has the luxury to invest time and money into completely doing from scratch. >Do I just have the wrong mindset? No, but everyone I've met who is "I need to make my own cosplay for it to be good" always managed to come off as a mega bitch. Maybe it's just a US West coast thing, but the amount of people who would act like it's a make or break to have just seemed weird. While I understand if you're good with fabrics and tailorship you can whip up some good stuff in a heartbeat but getting to that stage is expensive and time consuming. After a long work week I just want to go to the event and have fun.
where do people even buy their cosplays anyways, especially for men. Got suggested some random sites but they're clearly sites for women only with how little male characters to cosplay as for whatever I searched for even existed
