Anyone here going? I'm a local so I'm definitely going but national harbor is a 50 minute drive or a 2 hour train ride for me. Not sure what I wanna do. I heard parking is too expensive and that most if not all hotels and airbnb's are sold out
>>
>>10963195
I'm going but I'm kinda butthurt about having to take the shuttle. Nobody I know, not even friends-of-friends-of-friends, got a room at the Gaylord. New lottery system sucks.
>>
>>10963233
I have no idea what the lottery system is. Can you explain? I read the website but didn't get it
>>
>>10963236
The new system requires you to declare your party number and select a leader. So a group of 4 would instead be represented by 1 person, rather than 4 people trying to book a room for their group in the old free-for-all queue. Supposedly this way is more "fair" but I never failed to book in the Gaylord with the previous system, now I'm on the other side of the river reeeee
>>
>>10963237
That's fucked. Luckily my friends and I found a house in temple hills but it'll still be like 15 minutes from the airbnb to the venue. Sucks ass but I've also seen people online complain about the new system. Thats a really dumb way of doing things. Not sure what they were thinking with that
>>
If you want a badge I suggest you get it now because badges are almost sold out.
>>
This years lineup reeks of mainstage dpt members having their 40s mid life crisis
>>

Don't be such a negative debby

It's my first time at magfest. im going with a few friends but im really interested in the jam sessions. I've been playing bass for a year now so I'm going to be trying that out but what were your favorite things to do at previous magfests? The only other convention I've been to was otakon earlier this year which i loved.
>>
>>10963288
who would you pick instead you whippersnapper

What's dpt mean

I went this past February and had a good time, but can't go next year due to IRL reasons unrelated to whatever they did to the lottery system this time around.

One thing I want to emphasize for the non-locals is that I was strongly advised against flying into Reagan airport anymore, mainly due to the accident with the helicopter that happened around the time of MAGFest and that not much has been done to avoid such accidents at that airport in the future. My plan for next time is to fly in at Baltimore and then drive to wherever I'm staying for the con from there, dunno how well that's gonna work out though.

>what were your favorite things to do at previous magfests?
The one I went to this year was my first MAGFest so I don't know if a sample size of one is good enough for you, but I thought it was my best con experience ever after over a decade of going to things like these, which is strange because I consider myself an anime guy more than a video game guy. I thought the shows were really good and going to them was my favorite part of the con; I didn't really pay attention to the lineup before I went, but after getting to the con I was pleasantly surprised to find that several acts I follow online were playing live shows there. The thing I liked the most was how all-encompassing the convention was towards the concepts of music and games; if you like either thing it's very hard to not find something at this convention that you'd be into. One of the panels was about video games from the 70's when each game had a unique circuit board, to give an example of the scope of the con when it comes to vidya.

>not much has been done to avoid such accidents at that airport in the future
It's hard not to be anxious about this.
>>
This will be my first MAG, my friend convinced me to finally go! It looks like a lot of people are switching from Katsucon to MAG after bad experiences at Katsu + how delayed Katsu's hotel block was
>>
>>10963484
I saw a lot of thot influencers denouncing katsu after the water leaking in artist alley and saying they were going to do magfest instead despite it being the same venue. I don't know if it was just virtue signaling for clout or if there's any real intent but it was a sentiment I saw echoed right after the pipes hurting videos started going around
>>
>>10963473
Fingers crossed nothing happens because I have a non refundable flight booked already
>>
How cosplay heavy is this con? People who have been would you recommend it or do you think it'd get in the way of experiencing everything?
>>
>>10963489
From what i see it's pretty fair amount of cosplay. I'm doing kingdom hearts and maybe jujutsu kaisen, even though it's not an anime convention.
>>
What's the food hack? Is there a grocery store nearby one could stock up on?
>>
>>10963505
IIRC the CVS there sells liquor and grocery items. You'd have to drive to a real grocery store.
>>
>>10963489
It's full of males cosplaying as women but that's a full time thing for them so it doesn't really count

IT'S FUCKING SOLD OUT I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
>>
>>10963620
Damn my friend was talking about going but he was trying to scrape up money for it. Rip.
>>
>>10963505
IIRC my group and I went to Wawa all three days, but we were also staying across the river and had a rental car.
>>
>>10963473
>>10963488
Bad news gullbros, there was another aviation accident today with that UPS plane in Kentucky ;_;
>>
>>10963624
I should have known, early this year was a cluster fuck with it selling out like 2 weeks before which was abnormal.
So many scalpers and scammers made money from the shock that it was only going to get worse the next year.
2 months is a long while though, there will be chances to do a transfer.
>>
>>10963627
Praying you all have safe flights

Bought my tickets on a (moderately) drunken whim last Friday, and it looks like I managed just in time. Now, I just have to figure out everything else about the con. I believe I have some buds with a room somewhere close, but driving in 1hr each day isn't too bad if it comes to it. I just gotta figure out what I'm goin to cosplay as.
Either way, I'll have a car close by if any gulls need emergency rides or something.
>>
>>10963774
Nice my friend also got his last minite even though I thought he didn't get it in time. I'm pretty pumped for the jams. I've never played with a lot of people before
>>
Anyone here going to the music jams to play?
>>
Bump
