Is silver from deadlock a good or bad choice for my first cosplay and crossplay

Good choice.

Simple costume- jacket, tee, jeans, boots, belt, collar, handcuffs, glove. Easy wig to find. Simple modification to the boots, adding some extra fluffy fur. Simple tail (if you want it, costume could work without and you won't be sitting on it all day).

Over score as a starting costume: 9.5/10

hi, i'm a 22yo newbie
i'd like to crossplay as some blonde characters (i'm pale, blue eyes and blonde, i think i pass because i was mistaken as a woman at first glance at times), but I made the stupidest mistake of cutting my hair some months ago. i'm growing my hair and i expect it to be long enough in a year or so. i'm new to the scene, so i want to learn the necessary stuff in the meantime before i go to my first con (by close to 23 i guess).
Am i too old? i don't really know what's the average age in crossplay.

Yes, by 22 most people have grown out of wanting to dress like cartoon characters
The cosplay age range is 13-18, and also you have to be pretty, thin and asian

softmary anon from last thread here. i’m not sure if it’s due to how i handled them or if it’s because the material was cheap, but they ripped at the arm-boob area. i suspect it was because of the way i was putting them on more, but i guess that’s what happens when you buy from amazon. they were too small for my build anyway. i was luckily able to get a full refund. i’m thinking maybe i size up with a plus size with a different brand, but i also don’t want it to become a whole cycle.

Please, crossplay or not, use a wig. Humans don't have the hair density to do anime characters. With a wig you can closely match the colour and hairstyle without being limited by your hair.

What do I need to know as a tall guy (6'5") crossplaying? Aside from the fact that I'll stand out no matter what, I don't really know how to find clothes in my size, or how to minimize things to pass better.

If I wanted to cosplay Astolfo but didn't want my parents to know how would I go about it?

I still live with them and wouldn't want them to find me out. I'm very hygiene sensitive ( especially at cons ) and shower beforehand and wouldn't want to use a public bathroom.

change in a hotel room beforehand, maybe? unless your parents are particularly snoopy, you can probably hide a costume somewhere. not sure about practicing makeup though

I don't really want to rent a hotel just because I mainly go to AnimeNYC and live a short train ride away from the con so it's not worth it for me to buy a hotel just to change costumes. Maybe wear my cosplay underneath my clothes?

Gotta be real here, you're trying to have your cake and eat it too. One of the only foolproof options left is changing beforehand and going with a friend. Could try the inverse. Skirt over pants, remove them from underneath but that's only half. If neither of these work, best just accept the inevitable wrinkles

According to the map: https://javitscenter.com/plan/floor-plans/ the Javits Center has family restrooms (read single occupant gender neutral) on levels 3 & above. I know you said you didn't want to use a public restroom, but those would be fairly private.

for me, the cheap ones have always shipped inside clear zip lock bags, which are contained within the usual opaque black plastic bag or cardboard brown postal packaging
