Is it wrong to take food from a hotel's breakfast buffet to eat later?
>>
If the hotel is a personal venture of a small family trying to get by, yes.
If the hotel is part of a massive conglomerate trying to milk the world of resources as much as possible to further line the pockets of some already-rich executive, no.
>>
>>21563209
Truthful in this and many other situations.
>>
>>21563203
While it's not illegal, it does signal that you're low-class trash with no sense of shame or societal boundaries.
It ultimately comes down to how much you value others' perception of you.

They were born with self-respect and pride I guess. I've known a few cheapskates over the years who have absolutely zero qualms about taking full advantage of any type of "free lunch" situation.
It's really sad and embarrassing. Like they'll go to a shitty Chinese restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon to hear the timeshare pitch or whatever it is they're selling. Sit there for 45 minutes so they could have the moo shu rice combo for free instead of $8.95. And they'd never spend so much on food anyway. They get to taste "the finer things" when they're giving it away.
I've seen people haggle about prices at retail stores too. They really don't care. If it saves them money they have no shame at all. And like you, lol, they actually look down on the rest of society for NOT taking advantage. Just no social awareness at all. But you live in just a different plane of reality than the rest of us. I think it usually comes from a similar parent. These people usually don't need to do this, but it's a compulsion like those extreme coupon ladies. I guess if you have no real life or responsibilities and no brain you can devote your life to sneaking into free buffets and asking for a discount on something you ate most of before sending back and every other little trick you have to avoid spending your own money.
It's just so scummy and sad. And there's no way to even convey to you how you are seen or what would be wrong with what you're doing. You're not even capable of fathoming etiquette.
>>
>>21563763
I'm not racist but I've read this kind of thing is prevalent in other cultures who come to America. Personally it's always been like average middle class whites I've known or seen pulling that shit though.

No. Plenty of hotels, especially quality resorts, provide granola bars, sandwiches, and other pre-packaged food that are explicitly intended for you to eat later at your room or have as a snack. Grabbing some for family/friends who would otherwise miss breakfast is also quite thoughtful.
If you try to make hotel breakfast your lunch AND dinner, then you're one of the following:
>A cheapskate sales rep trying to pocket a per diem
>Staying in a national park or remote area where the hotel is all you've got
>Missing the point of your vacation

There was an Indian man who tried to haggle at the grocery store I worked. Eventually we were able to get him to understand it doesn't work that way in the US. Then he discovered that we discounted items that were close to their expiration. He'd dig through the dairy products looking for anything about the expire and then haggle over a discount. While he was annoying, I saw that as free labor as he did find stock that wasn't rotated properly and it was common to have milk close to expiring. As long as he didn't make a mess or unrotate stock, he let him do his bargain hunting.
He also ranted about how he was a doctor back in India but they wouldn't allow him to practice medicine here. A few years after I left that job, I saw him in the newspaper when he got arrested for running an illegal health clinic out of his apartment.

Yeah. Showing up in full view of everyone (even filming yourself doing it) and breaking out the containers and loading them up is brazen and uncouth. A lot of those places only put out so much at a time so I can't tell from the image but she could be just obliterating their entire supply. Clearing them out. I was staying with this hooker for a couple days in a Double Tree and she explained that the coffee and the muffins and bowls full of granola bars were really for anyone. Guests too. Front desk guy didn't give a fuck and was really nice to me because I was friendly and respectful and said what room I was from.
I grabbed a couple apples and cereal bars and made tea to take to the room and it was totally fine.

Some type of brunch buffet would be a different matter. A yogurt and a sandwich thing for ONE kid is nothing.
>>

that's not a thing.
see, massive hotels chains are just money laundering fronts.
they are never filled with guests, ever.
all those cars in the parking lot? spillover from dealerships.
they pay the hotel for parking and the hotel gets to look fuller.
when you stay at a hotel, you might be the only guest there that night.
on average, a 5 story hotel will have only 10 guests per night.
they make their money through laundering and racketeering behind the scenes.

He already said it's okay to take from large chains. For a small family affair, they possibly may rely on the expected leftovers for their own board; but one can certainly ask if it's ok to take them in that case.

A lot of those places use their complimentary breakfasts to be competitive because hotels usually cluster. They dont want a bad customer experience because one of their employees started shit with someone randomly and risk negative internet attention.

The point of the buffet is to eat enough for a day.
And not eat cereals like a kid.
Focus on fruit and protein (cold meat + eggs) add some bakeries for quick start energy.
That way you can save money on food.

This is such a fucking stupid take. As if Hilton and Holiday Inn are just gonna shrug and smile when they notice that more food than normal is disappearing from the breakfast bar. They're obligated to fill it, and so will have to purchase more food to fill it.

That increased cost doesn't come out of the fuckin CEO's pocket. That increased cost gets priced into the cost of rooms, effectively making every single room a little bit more expensive. When people steal from Walmart or Target it's the exact same principle. These companies never eat the cost, ever. Every single loss is directly passed onto the consumer through increased operating costs forcing the company to jack up the price of whatever they're selling.
>>
>>21563203
miriam fucking it up for everyone.
>>
>>21568600
They already over order on food so they don't run out, and typically they do just throw away easily 40 to 50% of the product. They wouldn't notice a fucking thing if you take an extra yogurt cup and muffin, dip shit
>>
>>21568618
Can confirm, I cooked for the buffet at a hilton garden inn, we had coolers full of everything so if people wanted to load up on stuff they could. When the buffet closed for the morning and we'd clean up i'd bring as much stuff home as i could, management didn't care since it was going in the trash otherwise
>>
>>21568618
So somehow if everyone who goes to breakfast packs away a second meal to go, that food will just magically materialize for free out of nowhere? How fucking stupid are you?
>>
>>21568600
Umm the cost was already there retard. They expect guests to feed themselves and their kids when they stay... The same leftovers that would get binned would go into Tupperware most likely.
>>
>>21568680
Dude have you ever worked with food? In America, large companies DONT run out. They over order to the point where they waste almost the majority of that product, but charge enough to recoup that cost. The price has already been compensated by you, the customer because higher ups only care about sales and profit, not the waste at the end of the day. Taking an extra meal from a buffet would do nothing to any cost for the people. They literally wouldn't even notice
>>
>>21568600
Why, pray tell, would I care?
There's no situation in which I'd stay at the same hotel more than once. Whatever cost gets passed down on the customers that come after me is absolutely none of my business.

I was jealous because I would never have the balls.
>>
>>21563203
This thread is full of people who have never worked a buffet in their lives. Anytime there is a buffet, a huge amount of that food is going in the trash, sometimes half or more of it if the food is really crap or attendance is low. Obviously if everyone takes a tupperware and loads up that is going to affect the hotel's bottom line, but the majority of guests aren't going to do that so if one or two broke single moms want to sneak some sausage for little Billy, that's not really a big deal.
>>
>>21568684
>>21568729
Are you illiterate?

It doesn't matter that stores are run so as to always have a surplus. The more people take stuff off of the shelves, the more of a surplus needs to be kept on hand. Do you follow me so far? Is that too complex of a concept?

It doesn't matter if the store ran a surplus or ran without a surplus. It doesn't matter how much shit they throw out. The fact of the matter is, if more products are leaving their stores without being paid for, they will factor those losses into future purchases and will pass that cost DIRECTLY onto the customer.
>>
>>21569424
The products ARE paid for you moron. You pay for the buffet with the price of your room. Again, they will NOT lose any money on any of the items you are eating. It's fucking cereal, shitty muffins, shitty bread, and the cheapest fruit and dairy you can find. Even if EVERYONE grabbed an extra plate when they were done there they would still be throwing away probably 30% of their inventory when it goes bad. They wouldn't bother ordering more, they're still well ahead on their inventory. I did that shit for a couple years at a gas station. We would throw away giant trash bags of donuts and sandwiches, take inventory, and throw the same amount away every day or two unless some anomaly occurred. Nothing ever changed. Not when high school kids and drunks were obviously stealing shit, not when I was stealing shit. Nothing changed. You have no clue what you are talking about and you sound like a bootlicking moron.

>DA GUESTS AT DA HOTEL R TAKIN TOO MUCH FOOD DEY PAID FOR NOW DA CEOS CANT INCREASE THEIR WAGE FOR THE 27th YEAR IN A ROW WHILE DA EMPLOYEES GIT PEENUTZ
>>
>>21569470
Holy fuck.

The COST of the buffet increases relative to the amount of food that runs through it. If more people just start taking food to go, the buffet will have to increase the amount of food that it stocks. If the buffet has to increase the amount of food it stocks then the cost of the buffet will increase. The corporation will then pass that cost on to the consumer by slightly increasing room prices across the board for everyone.

How the fuck aren't you grasping this?
>>
>>21569512
Dude, they won't. The fucking hilton charges quite a bit extra for those shit ass corn flakes to cover 400 lbs sheboons and their kids stealing everything. You don't understand how pricing or inventory goes. Unless there's a supplier issue or shortage, the prices will stay the same. You have PAID for the buffet with your exorbitant room price. You have paid for probably 30+ bowls of corn flakes even. They are covered. Property taxes affect their pricing more than a "stolen" banana ever will.
>>
>>21563203
if it's food you've already taken and were planning on eating, but something came up or you got full. not at all, it would be thrown away anyways.

>>
>>21568600
If companies are raising prices then they're making fewer sales. If what you're sayoling is true—that the passthrough rate of theft is 1—then the good has 0 elasticity and the company would have already raised prices.
>>
>>21569470
If the company targets 60% excess inventory so they never run out, increasing the consumed amount of inventory increases the size of that 60%. If a company predicts 100 units of consumption and wants 60% excess to ensure no shortages, they'll order 160 units. If consumption increases to 150, they're going to increase their order to 240 units to ensure they have 60% excess so they don't run out. If they kept ordering 160 units they'd only have like 7% overage.
>>
The wagies are only going to give a shit if she makes a mess or they have to restock something they just filled.
>>
>>21569735
What threshold would there be to raise prices then? When they lose $10k annually? $100k? More? Ultimately they don't raise prices on every single croissant stolen, obviously, but over time the corruption of the greedy customer costs the honest customer more in the long run.
>>
>>21569778
I'm not denying they raise prices. I'm telling you if they raise prices, demand drops and they make fewer sales than they were before their operating costs went up. They'll still do it because the new, elevated price point is more profitable than doing nothing ut it's less profitable than the lower price and lower operating costs. Some amount of the opex increase is felt by the customer and some is felt by the company.
>>
>>21569783
K so you admit that I'm right then. This is garbage sociopath behaviour that ultimately results in a worse life for every single human being who has to interact with these hotel chains via a logically necessary price increase which is at least some degree downloaded directly onto the consumer. When I don't feel like making breakfast I sometimes just walk in and take some. The ones that do care are high end resorts that are serving crab eggs benedict and shrimp and shit and while I've never stolen from them if you just ask the front desk they'll be happy to put something in a box for you and charge you upfront.

The idea of small children eating makes me want to vomit is this normal?
>>
>>21563781
Yeah cus people always get busted for saving free food
>>
>>21570271
It's not free. It's part of the price you pay for a hotel room.

>motel continental breakfasts
That's just oatmeal packets and wrapped pastries from grocery stores. Find a foodbank.

>>21570265
No, you sound like a little faggot pissbaby.
>>
>>21563203
No, they don't give a shit. It's all cheap crap that they budgeted in to your nightly stay, so in a way you paid for it take what you'll eat.

>Cooked eggs and meat, bread, cereal and butter "spoils" within 2 hours

I've never been desperate enough to hoard food from a complementary buffet. Is it immoral? I don't know, but it's the kind of behavior I would associate with vermin.

Itt: a bunch of incels joined together in a hugbox/echo chamber. Has it ever occured to you lot that you could just ask?

PS: the answer is always yes.

Mainland Chinese tourists do it all the time when they're abroad and stay even the shittiest properties. If you're staying somewhere cheap and you see a Chinese tour bus parked outside then you better get up super early if you want that continental breakfast because they will take everything, especially the old folks.

They don't even eat the food most of the time. They just hoard it in their bags and leave what doesn't fit.
>>
>>21563203
Perfectly fine, most of it is gonna get tossed anyway and it's not like you didn't pay for it.

Its less about desperation, more convenience and opportunity
I could go to the store and buy 12 yogurts that I wont be able to store properly and will probably go bad before my travel is over or I can grab one or two from the hotel and forget about it
>>
The hotel I usually go for business trips actually offers paper bags where you can store sandwiches made with the breakfast buffet stuff
It is a very large hotel near an airport in europe thoughbeit. No idea america was so buffet nazi
>>
>>21563203

This. Just fucking politely ask a member of staff. Have some honour. They'll almost always oblige.
