I'm looking into filtering my shitty hard as fuck tap water in my apartment. A water softener or whole house RO system is out of the question since i'm a rentcuck. I'm looking into gravity ceramic filters but these aparently don't do shit for hardness. RO systems seem wasteful whether undersink or on countertop but aparently there's new systems with less waste.

For the autists who already did a deep dive into the subject what's the best way?

If you're in an apartment, there's a good chance your faucet will be a cuck faucet that you can't even attach a filter to and can't even remove the aerator with without a key.
So, that will rule out solutions you attach to the sink.
I just use a pitcher. It gets rid of the chlorine taste and that's all I need it for.
>>
Just drink the tap water thirdie
>>

Berkeley gravity fed water system. Boom. You're welcome.

>>
>>21576559
pretty sure that stuff is just for giardia and shit like that, I don't think it will do chemicals
>>
>>21576536
Do you live in a slum?

Water quality varies a lot even in 1st world countries with "safe to drink" water. Many put chlorine in tap water, Belgium(where I live) is polluted with PFAS and other shit. And hard water is a bitch on most appliances, on your skin/hair, and makes coffee/tea taste mediocre.

>>21576559
I have been looking at ceramic gravity systems, Berkey ain't top anymore. Either Doulton/Berkefeld or coldstream have better filters with independent lab results. They're pretty good filters for chemicals/bacteria/etc but don't do shit for hardness(calcium/magnesium).
>>
>>21576536
Not /ck/. Take this elsewhere, Bucko.
>>
>>21576536
I bought a 3 stage RO system with an alkaline end stage and remineralizer for 100$ in my country
Water has never tasted so sweet
>>
>>21576543
put in a new faucet, swap it when you move out

simple as.

oh wait let met guess, you're a helpless zoomer that doesn't know how to do that?

lmao

most people here have never gone more than 50km (for the shortbus crowd, that's like "miles") from their birthplace, hence why they think everywhere is either just like their flyover shit hole, or literally mud huts and spear chucking penis gourd tribals. the idea of something as simple as a tap water or an electric socket being different in different places would blow their narrow little flyover pea brains
>>
>>21576760
Nta but my lease says any improvement I make is owned by the landlord
>>
>>21576536
I went down a serious rabbit hole with this a year or so ago. I eventually just started buying bottled water. the faucet attachments either don't do anything or if they do they reduce the water pressure to a drizzle. most of the pitchers only improve the taste and don't actually filter anything. if they do filter they only filter some things but not other things. some of the really bad stuff (like disinfectant byproducts) can only be removed via reverse osmosis, which can only be done at home via one of the under the sink devices. and if you live near agriculture the filters get dirty crazy fast. there just isn't a market for good, affordable home water filters because most people either aren't aware their tap water needs to be filtered or think that all filters are that same and they can just buy something cheap from target and be done with it.
>>
>>21576536
Zerowater is pretty good if you don't mind constantly replacing the filters.
>>
>>21576543
the key is sold at lowes, can use it and then return it
>>
Water-softening filters work, but they get filled up with hardness salts very quickly.
The filters can be regenerated by pushing the salts out with a regular kitchen salt solution, but it's a pain in the ass, and buying new ones can be pretty expensive.
Only whole house softeners are worth it, because you just dump a large bag of salt inside from time to time so they can regenerate their filters.
Regular 3 step filters are enough to make a noticeable difference in water taste.

I have this one, it s good if you are single. I would get a Korean one if i had to change, a Coway water dispenser with ice maker. Avoid berkeley shit, they don t work and pollute the water even more. A counter top R0 is what you are looking for.
>>
>>21576559
these things are useless
>>
Just install a RO system under the sink, It's well worth it and the only thing that actually does anything. You need to drill into the drain, but that's a cheap ass pipe to replace
>>
>>21577626
nta but I used a zero water filter for a while and it kept giving the water a weird taste
>>
>>21577700
I've heard they drastically increase your water bill, which I guess might not be a problem if he's not paying for water, but it might alert the landlord that something is amiss in his apartment
>>
>>21576536
>>21577617
I agree just buy bottled water. Filters don't remove heavy metals and so forth. Having to buy replacement filters and having that extra chore above everything else in life isn't worth it. Just buy distilled water. In b4 "we require more minerals!" get your minerals somewhere else. Drinking distilled water is fine. Or there are probably brands of good spring/filtered water somewhere.
>>
>>21577725
>get your minerals somewhere else.
Sounds like an extra chore above everything else in life. Doesn't seem worth it.

Waterdrop G3P800 for my inner Chicago highrise apartment. With remineralization cartridge. Pricey but effortless and portable, you can take it with you. Happy with ours.
>>
>>21578036
for the price of one of those things you could just buy a house lol
>>
>>21577724
NTA but rule of thumb is 2 gallons waste water for every 1 gallon clean water.
The best way is to use the soap dispenser hole by your kitchen sink and put in a dedicated drinking water faucet. Use it only for drinking and cooking that way you're not tripling your water bill.
>>
>>21576536
Zero water filter. Just like a Brita.
>>
>>21577617
Funny how this is almost a solved problem in my thirdie country.
Those undersink RO systems are extremely common and can be had for as little as $50.
>>
>>21576784
Say it was a dowgrade.
>>
>>21576536
If the issue is water hardness get a britta jug and use the maxtra pro limescale expert filters.
>>
>>21578698
That's what I already do.

I guess I'll look into countertop RO systems like >>21577672 since gravity filters seem sus.
>>
Distallation is the only way to remove flouride and other goyim-pacification chemicals from your water. Countertop distillers are pretty cheap. Get one, and some good mineral-rich salt to add back into your water. Thank me later
>>
>>21576536
I rent and I just installed an under-sink RO system. I fill up a pitcher with the filtered water from it and leave it in the fridge for drinking water. If I had to do it again I think I'd get a chiller unit for the RO system so it just comes out cold from its tap.
>>
>>21579526
yeah you seem like you have a good grasp on reality
>>
>>21579526

False. My Waterdrop undersink RO removes all flouride, organophosphates, Chromium 6, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, chlorine etc. Superior to bottled water and no plastics or microbes. Highest rec. 10/10.

There are better filters than water drop produces and they're modular. I've been very happy with mine although I did have to replace the fluoride filters much sooner than they claimed... they only lasted like two years which is still fine.
>>
>>21577732
You get minerals from food--not water. For thousands of years humans drank out of rivers devoid of (((Fluoride))). 100% of people telling you that you need minerals in your water are trying to sell you tapwater at a markup.
>>
>>21577725
>Filters don't remove heavy metals
TF are you talking about? That's a major reason why to use them.

Distilled water in gallon jugs is loaded with microplastics.

My bill for water filters is about 20 bucks a year to remove fluoride and heavy metals. I only have to change it every 3 to 4 years.

How lazy are you?
>>
Anyone on well water? I'm in Florida and whatever under-sink RO system came with the house burns through filters and only marginally improves the taste. I do mostly bottled but even that starts tasting funny after a bit. Been mixing it up with stuff like Crystal Light, using the packets meant for 2 quart pitches but using a gallon instead so they're not as sweet.
>>
>>21580212
Might need a pre-filter
>>
>>21580212
well water fucks the RO filters? damn.
>>
>>21580220
Usually it clogs the early stage filters before the RO filter.
>>
>>21580212
Most municipalities in Florida uses sodium florid which can not be removed by filters--it's a salt if you missed that tidbit. You are either stuck buying water from a distillery or you have to get a home water distiller.

Florida is the only place I've ever lived where I was forced to buy drinking water because the tap water was too fucked up to use a gravity filter.
>>
>>21577626
I use zerowater, I know to replace it when the water gets a fishy smell but they last me about 3 months on average. Very hard water here, I do not cook with my tap water.
>>
>>21580212
*It is very common for well water in florida to be polluted as fuck and also contain salts
>>
>>21580271

Reverse osmosis machines like mine remove all forms of flouride including ions. Triple checked and confirmed.

Waterdrop G3P800. Works for municipal water supply here in Chicago proper. Not the best for raw well water.

Interestingly, my Japanese toilets make their own self-cleaning solution from municipal water and its added chlorine.
>>
>>
>>21580309
Next time quintuple check, amateur
>>
>>21580319

I was self-deprecating and checked hella lot more before buying the thing. Zero lead, mercury, flouride, pfas et al.

Now go back to sucking on the lead paint chips washed down with leaded flouridated tap water, child.
>>
>>21580309
I said sodium flouride--not flouride.

I'm glad you got something that can remove it. Most filters can't.
>>
>>21580309
>Interestingly, my Japanese toilets make their own self-cleaning solution from municipal water and its added chlorine.
what model?
