Do you have a set of dishware specifically for formal or special occasions (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc)? If so, what is it? If not, why not (being a student is an acceptable reason)?
If you live with your parents you can answer with their dishware.

For me, its uranium glass but i've had guests refuse to eat on it occasionally

I have a set of fiestaware that my father in law bought for us the christmas before he died and we've been saving it away in our closet to use when we're finally able to move out of my parent's house again into our own home.

Of course that was almost eight years ago, and we never moved out, and now we're divorced, and the fiestaware is still in the closet, it's never been opened. Mine is mulberry purple.

Fiestaware is nice and thats a pretty unique color I think. I hope you get to move out soon and use it, but have you tried using it while at your parents house? Its a shame that a nice set goes unused

My aunt has fiestaware that her mother passed onto her sitting in her attic, but its the old orange radioactive kind, more radioactive than uranium glass. She had no idea it was radioactive until i brought up fiestaware in conversation (at which point i didnt know she had it)

That's neat, I didn't know it used to be radioactive.

It'll get used eventually, I honestly don't have the space in my parent's house for more tableware. My brother got a set, too, and we'll probably end up using it when we move out together.

only the old fiestaware thats orange or red, other colors are not radioactive
>My brother got a set, too, and we'll probably end up using it when we move out together
Thats nice, and joining two sets means you can host more people with it. I hope it sees use

I’ve got a Christmas set and a general fancy set (both inherited). I don’t think I could associate with someone that bought a set of Easter dishes.
>>
I inherited from my grandma a 6-set of Unicorn Tableware Asiatic Pheasants (pic related mine is a darker blue). They look very fancy and I eat on them, instead of the drab white no brand ones. Why should I keep them to gather dust in a cabinet? They make dinner a more pleasant experience for me.
>inb4 hurr lead paint??? I've tested them already there's no lead

With Christmas trees, it’s the Spode Christmas stuff. Weird that that design has been around for almost 90 years.
>>
>>21588278
Thanks to Jewish Capitalism, they've moved Spode Christmas stuff from Britain to China. So it's even more expensive with the benefit of uncertain quality(lead).

Why does everyone inherit things except me?

5/6 of my grandparents are dead (yeah I even had an extra set from one parent being adopted) and literally not a single one has left me so much as a dollar, let alone multiple dinner plates. I dont think the last one will leave me anything either. What's up with that?

My mom and Dad got divorced and my Mom imprisoned him for failure to pay child support and when he was in prison she sold all his firearms and family hairlooms, things like civil war musket and calvary saber; things that would ultimately have gone to me and i would have proudly displayed

She ended up getting with this Canadian 20 years younger than her and i ran away at age 15 to live with my grandma. My grandma died earlier this year and removed my mom from her will and put me in her place. I havent gotten anything yet, my uncle is handling things and im not gonna pester him but thats payback i suppose. My mom still uses my fathers china set that he inheirited from his grandma

I hope he’s a good guy but definitely know what you should get, when you should get it, and to the extent you can the disposition of all assets. Inheritance is when evil comes out and the wishes of the dead are often altered by the living in the name of what they claim is “fair”

I think he is a very good person and she trusted him and i dont think he'd have any reason to betray her wishes. Plus my grandma has 14 kids so it would also make a bunch of siblings mad

What kind of plates do you collect? Do you display them at all? Are they sets or one-off pieces?
I was curious so i just checked mine, my 'common use' plates are just Corelle Vitrelle which is pretty cheap (purchasable ceramicware at Walmart) and Doulton and Co Limited plates.
For special occasions i have a set of uranium glass etched plates made by Jeannette glass co, and a set of uranium glass sectional ('Homestead') plates by LE Smith
For decorative purposes i have a wall mount that can display 4 plates at a time, currently i have a set imported by Mesa International, one plate has a rooster, another a hen, another has baby chicks and the other a cluster of eggs. I have another 4-piece set that features things like flowers and grapes made by Meiselman Imports from Bavaria. I also have a set of 4 light blue Fenton plates from their 'bicentenial' (commemorative) line, except one of the plates was misfired/contaminated and contains both manganese and uranium. I also have a handmade bronze and a hand-wrought peuter plate from Wendell August Forge

My restrained collection of brass utensils, obsidian dishes, and design glassware is appropriately formal for any occasion. It's a kitchen, not a kitsch-en.

hah
my mom's birth father was murdered by his other 'legitimate' daughter to secretly keep all his inheritance when my mom didn't even want it. his stuff went to the state
mom's mom was a penniless liar and cheat
dad's parents' crap went to him and when he died all his crap was swindled by his final wife (out of like 8 he had lifetime)
when mom died her meager assets were tied up with her last husband's and i didn't want to take the last bit of his retirement
i did take an old family photo album though

my wife's parents spent, and/or are spending all of their money at a crazy rate
i'm sure there won't be anything there
mother in law is a huge hoarder though and I want nothing to do with that mess

thanks for reading my blog
i eat on some 10 year old dishware i bought from ikea
