A proper BLT requires mayo. Now my girlfriend is not a fan of sauces that are white, so she uses avocado. I find this also to be a delightful condiment topping, reinforcing the contrast of fresh vs salty as outlined here >>21586462. However I must put forward with my strongest feelings that mayo is superior to both avocado and nothing at all on a BLT. Good lettuce and tomato is sufficient to give you a crisp freshness, and avocado is inferior as an oil to mayo in enhancing the tastes of the other ingredients. If you've tried neither, I suggest you try both and you will never want a 'plain' BLT again.
