>>21588471Well what did you expect out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.>a-at least the books were good though"No!"The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

>>21588488It was okay growing up because we were impressionable children & so too were the actors onscreen. Some students were even taking the day off to see it the day it released in Cinemas with their families.Mine would book tickets months in advance in the 'Deluxe' screenings where people were served wine & fine dining plated meals. The movie wasn't great but we really made an event out of it all my brothers, uncle/auntie/cousins/parents.But yeah the later sequels where everything's doom & gloom (grey cloudy skies filter) everyone's unhappy at Hogwarts and it feels very oppressive with evil looming. The magic and wonder element quickly vanished and became very strict or even serious.Thankfully there were better films like Matrix/LOTR trilogy & even revenge of the sith prequels to push the limits with fun visuals & special effects. I certainly don't claim to love Harry Potter but it was part of my upbringing. The new series is going to be a catastrophe that rustles everybody's feathers, i hope many turn their backs on it and say "Not canon"
>>21588488I never read Stephen King my only experience of him is the sewer clown IT. Have you read that book? I want to know about the cosmic entity angle, the film retelling couldn't make up their minds whether he was a circus performer or crashlanded on earth via meteor in ancient times - which the sewer network was built on top of.The being from beyond earth is a more interesting premise
>>21588471Serious question: can there be copyright infringement issues with food like that?Say I run a bakery and decide to make special Harry Potter themed pastries once in a while, can I get sued?
>>21588524It's a massive company like Krispy Kreme they definitely paid for the licensing. Or maybe they entered some kind of agreement to promote it free of charge for more coverage brand recognition. The IP makes more money, Krispy Kreme profits off its acclaim? win win.I don't know for smaller businesses they'd probably play it safe and not get involved, since both parties don't benefit..
>>21588471They do look very nice
>>21588488Harry Potter sold an idea. "What if this weak bullied kid was actually a wizard? And he went to wizard school where he learned wizard stuff and occasionally beat bad guys?"Don't ask me why HP out of all other wish-fulfilment self insert stories because a colossal success. Mostly luck, though the school setting and release pattern making the heroes grow alongside the fans definitely helped it maintain momentum. Ultimately HP's main fanbase are the people who grew up watching it

>>21588524Avoid branding and trademaked terms and phrases.Selling pumpkin hand pies, cupcakes shaped like a witch's brew, and pastries in the house colors would be perfectly fine. Selling "Pumpkin Pasties", "Caldron Cakes", and "Griffindor/Slitherin/Ravenclaw/TheOtherOne House Tarts" would likely get you in trouble.
>>21588488It was supposed to be magic and fantasy but grounded with the same banal structures of our own reality. You literally did not understand the premise.

>>21589352If I've noticed one thing about entertainment media and an amassment of human beings consuming this, it usually becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Someone, somewhere out there will embody the character represented on screen so perfectly, taking the writers vision as gospel, that they will carry out someone else's plan entirely seriously. That mean one person will quote for quote fight the Oogways'. Ninja Turtles and Squirtles on a cosmic scale. Executing the objective, like it's fated even pre-ordained destiny. Fortunately for us the Discworld turtle perseveres and the "Destroyer of worlds" is defeated
