Is thai food the most mid of all the Asian cuisines? The Vietnamese, Filipino and even Cambodians have swaths of highly craveable food but Thai food always feels like its just short of being something you can face a plate of every day. Am I just going to the wrong thai spots?
>>21591641If you think Filipino food is more "craveable" than Thai, you are terminally culinarily retardedBut yeah you're probably also going to shitty Thai places
>>21591656Filipinos made chowking though. Chowking always fucks.
>>21591641It needs to be from a really good spot. Most places are shit because they cheap put on ingredients and technique that make it taste great. A lot of places dont use enough fish sauce as well.
>>21591641Fp >>21591656 is correct, in that you've probably only eaten at shitty westernized Thai places. It's like going to a cheap western Chinese takeout with huge amounts of sugar and less spiced to cater to westerners. Hell, a viet banh mi place opened near me and they only have western options -_-. If you want good Thai food, you got to go to a place that actually caters to Thai people while Thai palettes. Those basic Pad Thai or other noodle dishes commonly ordered are not stuff real Thai people would be looking for.Thai food is fucking great

>>21591641>Am I just going to the wrong thai spots?Probably, most Thai restaurants are very inauthentic because they are trying to appeal to the white palette. The Thai government has been sponsoring restaurants for decades to promote their cuisine abroad and these restaurants that get funding essentially follow a set menu and there's certain dishes they need to have on it prepared in a way to appeal to foreigners. You can find solid Thai food if you go to fancy places, or if there is some particularly highly regarded place with extremely high reviews.

>>21593723it's well documented, look up the Global Thai programbut yeah, westernized Thai food is nothing like what you get in Thailand. having been to both Thailand and Cambodia, authentic Thai cuisine blows Cambodian out of the water imo, and it's not even really close. some Thai places in the west are decent but it's really hit or miss.
>>21593728I guess it depends on where you are. We have a pretty large thai and lao community where i live (lao restaurants often call themselves thai or northern thai for name recognition) so a lot of places here aren't too watered down. The local thai/lao place where i live officially only have 1-5 spiciness but after talking to them a bit they actually have 1-10 but they typically only let other thai people know because they assume white folks like me would complain about it being too spicy. So yeah, any thai place that has a lot of thai costumers is usually an indication it's a good spot.
its the best of asian cuisines
