Why is it called bolognese instead of spaghetti sauce?
It was traditionally made with baloney in Italy because they were too poor for real meat.
it was traditionally pasta and sauce thrown into a bowl-o-knees.
>>21592047you can put other kinds of sauces on spaghetti, and you can put bolognese on other kinds of pasta besides spaghetti. why would it be called spaghetti sauce?
>>21592047There's loads of different pasta sauces. Bolognese is the one from the city of Bologna.
>>21592065why indeed
>>21592084>hmm yes compelling argument, but have you considered [random goyslop in a tin]?...
>>21592065most common pasta dish to put that sauce on in america
>>21592077Yeah OP is thinking of the sauce that comes from Spaghetta
>>21592233sure but not the onlywe don't call alfredo "fettuccine sauce". fettuccine alfredo, spaghetti bolognese.
>>21592725yeah we also have other names for it that we regularly use as well. tomato sauce, marinara, red sauce…
>>21592744marinara's not the same thing as bolognese. those are two different sauces.tomato sauce is a general catch-all term for many different sauces, and red sauce is a regional term. bolognese is still useful as a specific term.
>>21592752you’re kinda talkin down to me like you went to sauce school or something
Wooden doors probably
>>21592047Because it was born in BOLOGNA Italy a big city. Then if you wan to be precise the real BOLOGNESE is not made with tomato sauce but that's a discussion for another time.https://www.bo.camcom.gov.it/it/blog/depositata-la-rinnovata-ricetta-del-vero-ragu-alla-bologneseHere the real one from the official site of the Commercial Department of the city of BOLOGNA.
>>21592725we don't call spaghetti "spaghetti bolognese", either.it's just spaghetti.
>>21592052As an Italian who's lived all of his 36 years of life in Italy, I unfortunately have to confirm this. Last night I had to prepare spaghetti sauce with my mattress padding because what was left of my very little money went to taxes and bills. Thanks Obama!
>>21592795lol @ all the italian-american “nonnas” calling what they make bolognese
>>21592047Its Meat Sauce actually
>>21592052>>21592077>>21592065>>21592795spaghetti bolognese is an american dish, italians call it "ragu" and it's based on minepoix and it's a meat saucethey dont even eat it with spaghetti
>>21592047Because they don't eat it with spaghetti in Italy.
>>21593241Where do they mine this poix?
>>21592943>garlic not allowedhell nawww dude. Fuck Bologna
>>21592752>red sauce is a regional termthe region of red
>>21593241It's actually based on a sofrito and was made with veal loin and carrotsbut yea the tomato sauce is American that was faked into Italian cuisine but they won't admit it
>>21593686tomato sauce is french
>>21593701No I mean the meat sauce with tomato, that's American, not ItalianThough I have to imagine that people in America were making tomato sauce way before tomatoes got to Europe, whether or not they were native to the continent
>>21593705So that means Italians in Italy have stolen a American dish (bolognese) and now claim as Italian? I thought Americans had no cuisine or food culture.
>>21593755Yeah it's Italian-American, brought back to Italy after Italian unificationThe actual Italian dish doesn't use tomatoes at all and most Italians today probably wouldn't even recognize itKind of like how sushi is Japanese-American and nothing like what you'd get authentically in Japan even though American-style sushi is pretty popular now
>>21593774Damn. Americans invented sushi and bolognese. There's really no stopping them.
