Thoughts on serving rice with chili?
>>
>>21593830
it's aw-ten-teek
>>
>>21593830
Food served with food is fine
>>
>>21593833
debatable
>>
I honestly prefer it that way unless it's just a small cup of chili.
>>
It's how my American dad always did it but his mother is Asian so…yeah… rice kinda went with everything. We eat rice at Thanksgiving.
>>
>>21593830
Sloppa on rice/noodles is my favorite form of food so yes
>>
>>21593845
you really should embrace your nation's history and serve up some succotash for thanksgibbon
>>
>>21593845
rice is one of the most traditional thanksgiving foods
>>
>>21593830
that's not chili, that's some kind of curry with beans.
>>
>>21593926
for you
>>
>>21593926
there is not a single variety of rice that is native to north america. traditional thanksgibbon foods are succotash, punkin, porridge, sumac, crab apples, acorns and nuts, ducks, geese, and the eggs thereof, venison, all manners of fish and shellfish, and yes potentially even turkey

For me its cinnamon rolls with chili
>>
>>21593830
inferior to cornbread
>>
>>21593830
I'd prefer that to a baked potato or pasta. But cornbread beats rice.

>gibbon

Really? You think it's so clever you're going to force it on us twice?
>>
>>21593830
keep it
>>
>>21593830
rice and beans are a fine combination

I've been calling it that for decades anon. On this board I imagine I must have said that dozens of times o'er the years. It's basically involuntary
>>
>>21594022
Saying it may possibly be involuntary, typing it is not. Don't fucking lie and fuck your AI
>>
>>21594026
gibbon me a break anon, I'm bedridden with an hangover and my brain isn't doing good
>>
>>21593830
It's an unusual combination but I see no reason why it wouldn't work

I think I the cornbread angle but I don't think I've ever had good cornbread in my life
>>
>>21593830
It's a decent choice, but I prefer elbow macaroni.
>>
Had some on mashed potatoes once. Not bad.
>>
>>21594012
Incorrect & grossly misinformed.
>>
>>21594030
>gibbon
>>
>>21593830
I approve
>>
>>21593830
As opposed to? Potato sounds terrible and pasta is a bit weird but there is a sliver of potential under the ironic the spicy bolognese comments so it's possible in a pinch.
>>
>>21593830
Makes sense, the textures go together. Red beans & rice is good, indian dal and rajma with rice are good.
>>
>>21593830
Mexicans do it all the time so whatever
>>
>>21593926
Not in my experience. My parents invited my friend's family over to Thanksgiving and his mother was surprised at rice coming out of the turkey's ass rather than bread cubes. She even said that she's never seen rice at Thanksgiving. Other people I've brought it up to agreed that rice is not common to Thanksgiving. That's why I mentioned it in that post.
Also, my dad and uncle made turkey plov for Thanksgiving one year. They broke down the whole bird and cooked it in the kazan like they would have half a goat or lamb.

Biscuits or cornbread. Those're the more typical pairings from what I've been told
>>
>>21593830
It’s kino

Delicious. Get some carolina gold rice and you are in for an absolute TREAT. Real barbeque and honey baked ham is also fantastic with carolina gold.
>>
>>21593830
I eat a lot of rice, beans, legumes etc. The rice will absorb the chili flavors, but will soak the liquid from the chili. Its good and its not big a deal. Like other anons said, potatos, cornbread etc are also good. Do what you like. That's the beauty of cooking.

Mutt
>>
>>21593838
Yeah you need plain to balance strong flavors
>>
>>21593830

I was in my late 20s when I learned people eat plain chili not served over top of anything. To me that's as weird as eating sauce by itself. I usually do rice or potatoes depending on what I have.
>>
>>21595422
Butt.
>>
>>21595549
I was in my early 20s when I learned people ate chili over anything but hot dogs or Fritos. I met a dude who ate it over rice and I thought that was strange but then I tried it and liked it so now I do it too. Potatoes seems strange but I may try it. Any particular reason you don't just put the potatoes in the chili?
>>
it's fine but if your chili has beans in it you should be able to appreciate it straight up.
>>
>>21596098
Sometimes I want the chili over something else so I want to keep it separate. Chili on a baked potato is great.
>>
>>21595549
>I usually do rice or potatoes depending on what I have.
have thought about doing this myself, mashed. What do you recommend? How do you have your potatoes with chili?
>>
>>21596253
I've done mashed but the whole ensemble is a bit too soft for my taste. Baked is the best but if I don't have russets or i don't want to wait, I'll boil a few potatoes and very lightly mash them.

I was on the fence because of this reason, thanks.
>Baked is the best but if I don't have russets or i don't want to wait, I'll boil a few potatoes and very lightly mash them.
Thanks, I'll keep it in mind.
>>
Always had some rice on the table at Thanksgiving to go with the giblet gravy.
>>
>>21593830
Why not. Most carbs are pretty interchangeable. If you made bolognese sauce with roast potatoes, or a chilli or curry with pasta, it would be unorthodox but you know it would go down easy.
