Why do Americans hate anchovy pizza so much?
>>
it's disgusting. and it's not just americans.
>>
>>21602212
How is it disgusting? They add richness to the pizza
>>
>>21602219
a huge chunk of people refuse to eat seafood at all. on top of that, these are whole fish that come in a jar or can
>>
>>21602209
anchovies suck, its literally 90% salt in oil
>>
>>21602219
>richness

salt.
>>
>>21602209
It's an old meme from 90s cartoons. Of course kids hate anchovies, yet there's a reason they were ubiquitous enough for them to hate. Almost every pizza chain offers them as a topping, adults order it. However, a lot of anons never grew up so they never move past their childhood beliefs. This actually explains a lot about why anons are the way they are.
>>
>>21602209
I think a lot of people have either had an experience with anchovy pizza(too many on one slice, probably) that was bad or are just fundamentally weirded out by any non-standard ingredients on pizza, especially fish. Fish + cheese is also considered "weird"
>>
>>21602209
Chains tend to overdo it when they offer anchovy. I like em, but I usually only have them when I make my own pizza.
>>
Because it's a niche thing and they keep it for the people who "do" order it but nowadays everyone knows to just bring your own can.
>he brings his own anchovies to the pizza place
Yes. I give no fucks.
>>
teenage mutant ninja turtles ingrained it into the culture and most chain pizzas use cheap shitty anchovies
>>
>>21602347
that’s why I get a za; lite chovy at my local spot

Its literally 90% anchovy with a little bit of salt and oil. Anchovy pizza is a mature topping for those who enjoy flavor

I really fucking love anchovies on pizza.
Also, is that capers on OP picture?

anchovies blended into the sauce is much better than chunks of anchovy on top
>>

So horrendously gay
>>
my place won't bake the anchovies, they just give me a tin on the side
>>
>>21602209
My favourite pizza toppings are Anchovies, Pineapple and hot peppers
>>
>>21602209
I like anchovy pizza, but it’s actually a harder pizza to make. You have to consider the salt content of the rest of the pizza, then make allowances for that with the anchovy and other toppings(which should all be lighter in salt/have salt uptake). Mushrooms go well with anchovy, 100%. What other toppings and sauces would be less conflicting with the anchovy?
>>
>>21602209
I've never had it but I just know I'd love it. The salty umaminess of the of choves must go really nice with the acidic, greasy cheese tomato emulsion.
>>
>>21602587
i go full salt. parmesan white sauce instead of tomato, black olives, anchovy
>>
>>21602587
I do black olives and red onion
>>
>>21602608
I was thinking olives as well. So we have white parm sauce, anchovy, mushroom, and olive. What about a chicken add, to make the anchovy flavor stretch across each bite while decreasing the salt overall, then maybe spinach? Even without the chicken the spinach would go well imo. Spinach, olive, mushroom, anchovy, white parm sauce. Sounds pretty old world.

I keep saying this and yes I got it from the JRE Elon Musk episode but pineapple anchovies is fucking amazing totally balances out the overly salty taste of the anchovies.
>>
>>21602209
Because pizza shops use cheap salty anchovies that are terrible and kill your palate. Some delicacies like Cantabrian anchovies have a better taste and less salt, great on pizza or mushed on toasted bread with garlic, or bruschetta.
>>
>>21602209
We had not yet learned of the evil of pineapple on pizza.
>>21602341
Fish and cheese is great. Maybe some eggs need to be added to the equation.
>>
You're supposed to dice up the anchovies and cook them into the sauce.
>>
>>21602347
This. My friends that have worked at pizza places tell me that it is ordered infrequently and the can is quite smelly so they tend to put as much of it on the pizza as they can justify so that it doesn't smell as bad afterwards in the kitchen. This is why it gets a bad reputation, pizza workers don't want to deal with the excess of the open can so they overload the pizza to get as much of it out of the store as possible.

>>21602587
I do anchovies and roma tomatoes. The tomatoes provide a brightness and acidity to cut the salt of the anchovy. Of course, if you're making it at home, you can run the fillets under cool water to cut some of the saltiness. Anchovies as they are served do not need to be as salty as they are straight out of a can.
>>
>>21602424
this is the same argument disgusting fr*nch use to justify eating moldy cheese that tastes like sweaty socks
you have gaslit yourself into thinking you're somehow better for eating literal garbage
you dont have a refined palate
you have stockholm syndrome

Beef tallow-preserved anchovies or die

Putting anchovies on pizza predates the discovery of the New World, Anon
>>

I tried anchovy pizza because of Runescape and loved it. Years later I ordered a tuna and corn potato at a London train station and it was delicious. Thanks Runescape. Alas, I never got to try kebabs when I was in Europe.

If anyone is gaslighting its you anon telling me about my own tastes and preferences bc you cant get past the fact you desperately want to enjoy anchovies but cannot. The high society of those with the palate for them infuriates you into the hysterical mess you are
>>
>>21602209
Anchovies are the saltiest fucking things Ive ever eaten. Not even a good salt flavour either.

Its like a little, sour-salt bomb, with no substance. I had it with and without pizza. Fucking awful. Ill stick to deens.
>>
>>21602209
It's decent but the best thing I've had with anchovies was a flatbread with white anchovie, ricotta, chili oil, balsamic reduction thingie, arugula and an persimmon slice.
I daydream about it like once a month.
>>
>>21603711
IIRC the flatbread was brushed with chili oil then baked in a stone oven before everything else was put on afterwards. Yummy

I'm talking about my extremely subjective experience with both anchovie pizza and another dish I enjoyed 10x more. That being said, anchovie pizza is tasty and I like it.
>>
>>21602209
Too subtle and nuanced. Half these Anons whinge about anchovies being "too salty" yet they can't handle anything that hasn't been covered in bacon, injected with processed cheese, and smothered in half a bottle of Hidden Valley ranch dressing.
>>
>>21602347
Chains also usually just order the shittiest, cheapest anchovies they can.

>>21602983
Can confirm. I work at a neapolitan place. We don't do add-ons, but we can offer sides of it for people. I used to have to portion out sides but 1) it was just incredibly messy and annoying to do while in the weeds, and 2) since it's an open kitchen, boomers would freak out by the smell. Now we just have someone on the salad line in the back do that.
>>
>>21603397
This guy is a whiny little bitch but he isn't wrong, a pizza with just anchovies is very salty. My advice is to pair it with jalapeño, spiciness is the opposite flavor of saltiness and those two toppings together are my favorite pizza
>>
>>21603663

good luck convincing anyone to kiss you by the way

Your mom didn't mind. But then again, I don't kiss whores.
>>
>>21602209
Negative reputation like pineapple or broccoli. All 3 are top tier toppings all are 'yucky' for to baby pallets.
>>
>>21605168
Who TF is putting broccoli on pizza?
>>
>>21605169
Me. I do that, it's good.
>>
>>21605169
I've seen it a bunch of times. Kind of odd, but works a lot better than you'd expect.
>>
>>21605170
>>21605171
Like chopped up or sliced? Grilled? In my head I'm picturing whole-ass broccolis on a pie
>>
>>21605176
Think I saw sliced once or twice and it didn't quite work. Usually it's smallish florets that are easily bite-sized, not entirely covered by cheese so it gets some of that roasted aspect.
>>
>>21605196
I'm still not sold on broccoli pizza but thinking about this, I'll halve and oven-roast some broccolis the next time I make a quiche, I think that would work nicely
>>
>>21602209
Looks like a shit stain or smear on a Margherita
>>
>>21605176
Smol florets like >>21605196 says. You want them fresh enough to get some color imo.
>>
>>21602209
I have wondered why Americans don't like seafood as much as other parts of the world. I mean you guys have world class logistics so you can transport it fresh. Plus don't you have many large lakes and rivers? You can catch it right at the source
>>
Anchovy pizza is everywhere. What are you talking about, OP?
>>
>>21602209
Burger here and I love anchovies. It's understandable, though. They're really potent (unlike you).
>>
>>21606114
Not really dude. I can't think of a pizza chain that carries them anymore.
>>
>>21606113
>Americans don't like seafood as much as other parts of the world
Probably because the vast majority of our land is landlocked and beef, pork, and chicken production are so high in most of them, coastal and rust belt people love seafood though because they have regular access to fresh fish. I'm from Washington and seafood is incredibly popular here, I've heard the same holds true for the other coastal states. Personally I could eat nothing but seafood for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy, I absolutely love it
