Why do cooking shows/youtubers always refuse to use or own a deep fryer in recipes? It is such a pain to use a stove top ceramic dish or whatever. Is it an American thing to not just have a deep fryer for the occasional cheeky fry? Every household in Aus has one. They are not hard to use and certainly not 'dangerous' as so many say

In America we use a kettle

In England we use a coffee machine

In Asia, we make rice on the stove

I bought pic related for dirt cheap (like 25 euros) and it works like a charm. it's not something I use very often, but it's nice to make properly deep fried food at home every once in a while.
it need a lot of oil (3 litres), but if you filter it and store it in the freezer you can reuse it several times.

you can also use a rice cooker as a deep fryer if you jam the switch on

I just pan fry with a cast iron skillet.
>>
I just dial my rice cooker to Deep Fry

We got air fryers now, try to keep up

I do wonder this as well, maybe it's a liability thing? I agree, a deep fryer is an asset in the kitchen and an actually useful unitasker.

I had one once, and it was a bitch to clean and stunk up the whole house for several days after every use. If you're using it frequently and don't mind the smell it's probably not bad but having to degrease it after every use sucked. Now when I'm going to deep fry something I just use a pot with a basket on the side burner of my grill. Way easier to clean up and all the oil stink is outside.

an open pan of oil doesn't leave much smell but these dedicated units like op vent out obscene amounts of steam which reeks, most people stop using it after they realise this. unless they're low class like australians and smelling like a chippy is just a feature.

The last thing the average American needs is to eat more fried food

Just use fat. You can keep it in the fryer after it solidified again. Takes some time to go rancid. Also easier to handle than oil.

I was going to buy a deep fryer for my balcony kitchen but then I started eating clean. My friend has one and it's very convenient.

Fried anything disgusts me. Stir fried is another story and I use my giant, restaurant quality gas fired wok weekly. Easily cleaned and stowed on my outdoors deck.
