I mean if all the fast food restaurants are giving you 100% Arabica doesn't that imply it's a shit tier bean?And if it is a shit tier bean why would they announce it by saying it's 100% Arabica?What even is a good bean and a bad bean? There are a ton of less prolific varietals but the two most common by a longshot are Arabica and robusta.Robusta is the shit bean. Less complex and deep flavours, but higher yields, and in the 80's and 90's they were much more commonly seen in the market, especially after the Vietnam war, when all the land cleared by napalm was planted with robusta.Gradually though, Arabica got more cost effective and robusta just ended up mostly going to the poorer regions of the world. So when you see "100% Arabica beans" that's kind of a holdover from when that actually was a sign of differential quality instead of just the standard.

Though I suspect the black silk variety in particular is at least mostly liberica. I had a filipina boss once who gifted me some liberica coffee and it tasted similar.
