>work send me to new york (never been)
>ask about expense limit
>"its $60 a day, just write 60 per diem on your expense form and you will get it all on the next payday"
>wow thats gonna be a nice little bonus, there is no way i can blow $60 a day on lunch and dinner
>every place is like $30 for a shitty meal
>$40 for sysco food
>some place sells sandwiches for $37 and people are lined up
>get a slice new york pizza i hear so much about
>$8 for a slice and $2 for a coke
>its just regular mom and pop pizza
>go to buy groceries
>the shittiest rat infested places cost the same as high end grocery stores
What the hell is wrong with this place?

I really don't understand what possesses "people" like OP to come here and tell lies, as though googling "cheap eats NY" is some impossible thing to do.

also, eat hot dogs.
2 dogs and a drink is like $10, but it'll last you if you get the fixin's.
alternatively you can walk to brooklyn.
i suggest you don't so you don't get robbed.

>has job that sends him to NYC
>post frog, identifies as angry, directionless, terminally-online KHHV

Doesn't check out. Keep your fantasies to yourself. No company would only give you $60 per day for NYC. That detail alone blows your story out of the water.

NYFags are insanely insecure. Look at all the butthurt you caused lol good job.

No regular New Yorker is going to Katz Deli in the middle of Times Square for lunch, it’s a tourist trap. Go find a middle eastern or Greek man to hook you up with cheap food
>>
Just find a $1 pizza dlica and get like 3 slices that will cost you about $3 and pocket the rest of about $57
>>
>>21617546
Katz is not in Midtown it's in the lower east side

Back in 2023-2024 i was sent to vietnam by my small company and i was forced to stay for 6 weeks in a small hotel room with no windows. I went nearly insane. The worst part was whenever i asked my boss if i could go home, he said "just stay another week, finish the job"
After 6 weeks i was sick and absolutely miserable. I booked a ticket and told my boss about it instead of asking. Truly a terrible experience
>>
>>21617118
Not saying he is telling the truth but what if that place is too far from whatever gay convention he is at that moment
>>

Yeah if it's for a work trip, he might located in a nicer area near all the expensive shit.

New Yorker here. You did absolutely no research beforehand. You have nobody and nothing to blame but yourself. My city isn't responsible for your utter stupidity.

Want to really eat cheaply? Go to Chinatown. Shitload of dumplings and noodles for nothing. Slices of pizza (from a good place) will be $4-5. Joe's is great, as is NY Pizza Suprema by Penn Station. But you can get perfectly good casual meals, all around town, for $20 or less.
>>
>>21617998
That looks like fucking trash.

$20 anywhere else in the world get you a nice meal.

It's not trash, it's delicious. Those are rice noodles (admittedly not the house specialty, that's the wheat noodles, but still delicious) and pork-and-chive dumplings that are excellent. If you're determined to believe otherwise based on your rash interpretation of one photo, well, I can't help your idiocy.

We got bougie scallion pancakes too. Mmm.

>work send me to new york
as a lifelong new yorker I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get back home asap. this place blows don't believe the Stockholm syndrome coping
>>
>>21617974
Did you know there is this magical place called the outside? Yes I know it's crazy I didn't believe it myself. But that hotel room isn't actually the entire world. You could have actually stepped out that door and seen all kinds of things. It's a shame you didn't figure that out after 6 weeks but I get it. It's a very confusing concept, some people never figure out they can leave their rooms.

Every time I've had to go to new York, I hated it for so many reasons, but the cost of eating out was not it.
It's cheaper to eat out in NYC than it is in my small flyover town, it's cheaper to eat out in NYC than it is to buy groceries there. It is, however, a rat infested hellhole filled with the angriest bunch of pussies I've ever met. Everyone is in such a hurry to go out of their way to cuss out a complete stranger, for no reason, but when said stranger squares up on them, all of a sudden it's "oh my gawd, what are ya, a psycho?"
I hate new yawk but it's one of the best food cities in America. Their pizza is overrated, though, Chicago deep dish and tavern style both mog a flimsy new yawk sloice
Fucking disgusting accents
>>
>>21618151
Dude i was literally roaming the streets in circles after work. There was nothing else to do! I walked and walked aimlessly, stopping to eat whatever street food i liked every 5 minutes. You can only do that for so long. The local people don't understand what you're saying, you can't talk to them.
It's the first and only time in my life that i felt immense loneliness and homesickness. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I had no idea i could feel so sad despite being well fed and comfortable

Alright fine, I wasn't there. But did you at least have internet or tv or something to do in your hotel? Did you bring some books or anything to pass the time? Where there no tourist places to visit? How much of your time was spent actually working?

Where exactly are you? It's the UNGA this week, I have to work in Midtown and I would heavily advise you not hang out around Midtown right now.
Stop kicking yourself and take a train Downtown. The East Village is nice, relatively cheap and in a couple hours will have a bunch of cool entry level bars opening.
A lot of places with good and affordable burgers, if you take the AC or E to 14th street you'll be in Greenwich Village, there's this burger place at 13th street in a gas station that's really good and like 10 bucks. There's the real Joes on Carmine by there too, a bunch of historically important gay bars that I assume you'd like, (even if you're straight, Stonewall Inn is great, one of the few National Monuments in that's also a bar). Head East and you'll end up in the East Village 1st Ave-Ave B between Houston and 14th has a lot of solid bars and restaurants that range from relatively cheap to a good way to waste your per diem.
You'll be a lot happier below 14th street, especially this week, the UN is always a nightmare.

Do you have any idea how small Manhattan really is? You can walk from midtown, where this retard likely is if he's not a lying liar who lies (he almost certainly is, though) to any part of Manhattan that matters in under an hour. Shit, midtown to The Battery is only, like, an hour fifteen. There's no way this retard isn't finding cheap eats in NY. None.

It takes a lot of cats to make sandwiches. They don't have hands like humans
>>
>>21618277
They should get the surgery the titular characters from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lives_of_the_Monster_Dogs had so that they'd have hands to make sandwiches with. Dumb cats.

Cats isn't coming back to Midtown until Spring 2026.

Uhh, you seem like a traveling newb. Why did you not do a few searches and make a plan of what you wanted to eat while there?
Where are you working/staying? What are you favorite two world cuisines? We'll make suggestions. Life is too short to eat crappy things you simply walked past...

There's another thread on here about a Subway sandwich costing 16 bucks >>21618227
An extra 10-12 bucks for an Iconic sandwich that looks a lot better isn't that bad, things are just expensive nowadays.

I did have internet at all times, and it was pretty fast too but after a few weeks you get tired of everything. Tired of seeing the same shitty hotel room without windows. Tired of eating at the same place. Tired of sleeping in the same bed with questionable stains. Tired of taking the same bus to the workplace (yes, i was bored enough to explore their public transit instead of taking ubers). Worst of all you don't see the face of a loved one. No parents, no siblings, no grandparents, no friends. You might find this strange (and i do too) that i reached 27 years of age without ever experiencing this before but somehow i just did
I spent the day taking to the few English speaking Vietnamese people at the factory, i returned around 5pm (they stayed until 7 or 8). I slept at 10pm so i had 5 hours to kill. I just walked around the city. I ate great food, very inexpensive but it was still torture, i was wanting to go home every single waking second of my time there. I also got the flu and was simply miserable
I have worked hard at my company ever since but i have prayed that i don't ever get called again to some foreign shit hole. I'll leave my job before going away on a work trip
