What's the point of still having the mussel shells in a seafood soup? Presentation? It just seems like a hassle.
>>
Mussels have to be cooked shell on, you can't shuck them beforehand because you can't determine if they're dead or not.
You want them to fish out already cooked mussels and shuck them and put them back in without breaking the shell? Some high end restaurant might but that's an even bigger hassle.
It's also more fun to have an extra activity to eat your food, like a paella.

I feel this way for many seafood dishes. Tail on shrimp? Fucking hell. Crab claws in my soup? fuck, gotta get my fingers soiled. Clams still in the shell in my pasta? Fucking annoying to deal with.

The only time I want the seafood in the shell is if i'm enjoying a seafood boil.

What this guy said, plus they release tasty juices as they cook

This is false in every possible way.

That's why seafood is low tier. So many people make it the backwards Asian way.

Maybe you should just man the fuck up and eat the entire shrimp

You miss out on so much awesome food because you eat like an autistic child, yet you seem to be proud of it?

Fucking brainlet.

>you can't determine if they're dead or not
Yes you can. Before cooking, tap them and they should close up tight. If the shell is loose then they're dead.
The idea that mussels/clams were dead because they didn't open is bullshit. Often repeated bullshit, but it really isn't true. I always eat the ones that didn't open and I've never gotten sick. I just check them before cooking.
So much waste for no reason

this is the kind of demented thinking a chinese has, like eating chopped chicken with shards of bone because they enjoy spitting every piece out
>>
>>21619601
You sound like a little baby ass faggot that only eats boneless chicken and whose closest encounter with fish was in stick form
>>
>>21618702
Adds flavor. Same with whole shrimps and whole anything, really. Cook a boneless skinless chicken breast and then cook a split chicken breast. The split has more flavor from the bone and skin. Same shit with seafood
>>
>>21618756
Agreed, it's a pain in the ass. I only order shrimp dishes and specifically ask for the tails to be removed just in case.
Tried paella once and by the end I was extremely pissed off about grinding my teeth on the small clam shell chips.

>>21619581
Do you eat the shrimp carapaces along with the tails?
Do you eat the mussel/clam shells?
Fuck off, dumb cunt.
