My uncle in Iceland used to be in a club where they make these, and they even had little competitions occasionally. I didn't like it as a kid (he also makes excellent pönnukökur, so I always had those at his house instead), but I'm warming to it as an adult. I can't even tolerate the over-sweet cakes we have in stores here in the US anymore.
Food from the Nordics gets a bad rap, but there's a lot of solid comfort food to be had. I could eat kjötsúpa, skýr with berries, and rúgbrauð with brauð ostur and red fish every day indefinitely.

You mean Aktu Taktu, or an actual McDonald's? Haven't tried the former yet (usually visiting family when I'm there, so eating at home a lot), and I don't eat the latter.
I'm guessing it's better than what we get in the US regardless, since they're so lenient with food standards here. I'm not thrilled about fast food chains growing anywhere, but it is what it is.
Still wondering how dominos turns a profit out there.
