I feel like eggnog is just as good an autumn drink as a christmas drink. I mean, it's basically a punkin spice smoothie with or without booze which takes the chill off.

I don't like the idea of eating whipped raw eggs but there are vegan versions which I'm thinking about making. Uses coconut milk to thicken which sounds delightful
>>
Isn't nog season year round in Merica?
>>
its not even october

>australia
>no major holidays between easter and christmas
>christmas stuff starts going out of shelves end of august/early september
>halloween stuff up for 2-3 weeks in the middle
>put up right alongside christmas decorations
i hate it
every year with this shit

and they don't even sell good eggnog. Pauls brand eggnog is ass. the farmdale stuff they used to have at aldi was so, so much better, and now it's fucking gone.

i hate it so damn much
>>
>>21621837
yeah they need to ban these early holiday retailers
>>

>>christmas stuff starts going out of shelves end of august/early september

they've been doing that in the states for a few years now
well, halloween crap is usually up by end of august and grocery stores do a full roll out of pumpkin flavored crap by sept. 1
usually by mid oct. all the pumpkin crap is sold out or on clearance and crhismas flavored crap is out
chirstmas decorations are up for sale at least by mid oct.
in fact the grocery stores here usually have large displays of both pumpkins and watermelons side by side come the end of august
its fucking ridiculous
don't get me wrong, autumn is my favorite season and i love pumpkins, pumpkin flavored junk and pumpkin spice, but god damn

>>

I’m gonna finally do it this year.
What’s a good eggnog recipe?
>>
I had no idea if egg prices would be normal this year so I made my batch in april when I got a good deal at costco on eggs. Made nearly 2 gallons, hardly touched it (taste it like once a month to be sure its still good).
>>
>>21619590
what abv?
>>21622504
50% store bought eggnog
50% rum
>>
I've never made eggnog that tastes as good as the 1 store brand I like and it wastes like 12 eggs to make it. What's the secret?
>>
>>21619618
>I don't like the idea of eating whipped raw eggs but there are vegan versions which I'm thinking about making. Uses coconut milk to thicken which sounds delightful
When you do make this, let me know if it's good, sounds interesting
>>
>>21619590
Ha no shit, Christmas decorations are already being sold, and I seen that weird italian fruit bread that I can never pronounce the name of already in another store.
>>
>>21622504
Basic starter would be mix together and pour in a mason jar:
12 large egg yolks
1 lbs sugar
3 c dark rum/brandy/bourbon
1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg

Close the jar and leave it in the fridge for two weeks minimum. When it's serving time, strain it. Mix your base with twice its volume in half and half. Grate nutmeg on it for garnish.

Feel free to age it with other spices that aren't at risk of killing you (no extra nutmeg or mace). Vanilla and cinnamon make nice additions. The hard liquor can also be changed around a little bit.

You can do a mix of the three so long as it totals 3 cups. Or replace a cup of the hard stuff so with a flavored liqueur. I've had success with 1 c brandy, 1 c rum, 1 c kahlua with people who like coffee for example.

And lastly depending on how heavy you want the drink you can fuck around with the dairy you use, be it heavy cream if you're the fattest fuck around, or whole milk if you want something lighter, or again playing with ratios of dairy types or even how much dairy goes in if you want it stronger. Just make sure not to age it with the dairy. It tastes better that way.

Interesting, thanks anon

Sara Lima. No porn, sadly.
>>
what's the difference between nog and custard drink? they sell both at the store but idk which one is supposed to be better.
>>
>>21623045
for me custard is something you eat with a spoon, and it's cooked.
eggnog is drinkable, raw, and alcoholic.
>>
>>21623152
what's the stuff they sell in bottles then? it comes from a local dairy.
>>
>>21623155
pasturized, non-alcoholic eggnog flavored dairy product.
>>
>>21623222
they have egg nog right next to it on the shelf though. one has a silver cap and one has a cream colored one.
>>
>>21623226
dunno. buy it and find out.
>>
>>21621837
Is it weird having Christmas foods when it’s hot out or does it seem normal?
>>
>>21623283
The heat isn't an issue most of the time since we've lived with that all our lives so we all have air conditioning, fans, and houses built to keep cold during the day heat and warm during the cold.
>>
>>21622696
You should consider making a ponche crema which adds almonds, lime zest, angostura bitters (basically falernum flavors) and sometimes even instant flan mix to the usual eggnog recipe
>>
>>21619590
You make your own?

>>

wartime nog
>>
>>21623283
I grew up in commiefornia and we literally had Christmas days where it was 80 degrees. It sucked desu and made me insanely jealous of midwest and east coast fans.

I lived in WI in my mid 20s and having snow during Christmas was so much better.
>>
>>21625273
on one hand, 80 degree christmases just didn't feel right. On the other hand, all my friends in the neighborhood getting bikes or skateboards for christmas meant that we didnt need to wait months to have fun.
>>
