84% of the world's production of Peppermint is from them. This isn't something I would have ever expected, and for the life of me I can't understand why this would be the case.Peppermint is actually native to England, and it requires moist growing conditions. It just seems very strange that a desert country like Morocco would somehow become the world leader in production of it. They must really love it, or something.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint
>why do peppermint tea drinker produce so much peppermint?people must call you a retard often
>>21620459They live in a hot as hell desert climate. They feel cooled by peppermint tea.
>>21620459>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint>Native to England>mint is indigenous to Europe and the Middle EastI hope you feel dumb
>>21620469>greentexting something not saidThis is a strawman fallacy. If you're so smart and not retarded, you wouldn't need to resort to this. But let's take a look at your strawman anyway just for the hell of it:>>why do peppermint tea drinker produce so much peppermint?I don't know that peppermint tea drinking is such a big deal in Morocco. Is it really the case? And if so, how would I possibly know that? But peppermint tea drinking exists all over the world. Why does this country in particular happen to produce 84% of the world's production of it, but every other country (many of which I'm certain also drink peppermint tea) produce so very little? Morocco's population is about 37 million. So they'd have to be drinking this stuff by like the gallon per capita in order for their consumption of it to correlate with their production. Can you explain this, Mr. "Not-Retard"?>>21620473>They live in a hot as hell desert climate. They feel cooled by peppermint tea.But they're far from being the only hot desert country. Why doesn't any other desert country love and produce peppermint too then? Why just them specifically?>>21620580>>mint is indigenous to Europe and the Middle EastWhen speaking about the Mint genus, you're correct. But when talking about the species of Peppermint specifically, it was first identified in England, so what I said (which was quoted from the article) is correct.>I hope you feel dumbNo, I really don't. Your aggressive misunderstanding doesn't change the truth of what I ACTUALLY said.
>>21620621Identified under a scientific genus, yes, but you're a retard. Peppermint and its base mint plant were used in Egypt and the Mediterranean going back thousands of years, well before it was scientifically identified in England in the 1600s. You linked the wiki, you idiot.
>>21620621
>>21620580England is a part of Europe. the eu isn't Europe.
>>21620625Yeah, the Genus of a lot of things are all over. But the specific plant known as Peppermint is the heart of the matter in this case. Related Mint plants like Spearmint and whatever are another separate thing. But I looked and couldn't find any information on how much of that type of mint that Morocco produces (if any).>>21620633Illiteracy is not a virtue.>>21620580>>mint is indigenous to Europe and the Middle EastMorocco is North Africa, not the Middle East.
>>21620459Morocco is not all desert. a large part of it is quite lush because of the Atlas Mountains. they grow a lot of things there.as for why something non-indigenous became popular, idk, but it happens all the time. tomatoes in Italy, paprika in Hungary, potatoes in the English Isles. Morocco particularly has a strong culture of mint tea, they drink it constantly.
>>21621352forgot pic>>21620621>Morocco's population is about 37 million. So they'd have to be drinking this stuff by like the gallon per capita in order for their consumption of it to correlate with their productionthey basically do. when I went there, I was offered mint tea several times a day. waking up in the morning, with every meal, going to bed in the evening. it's ubiquitous.

>>21621709>brevity is the soul of wit, stupid retardBrevity may be the soul of wit, but there's nothing witty about merely saying "tl;dr" in response to a post you had not even read.
>>21620459They don't "love" it so much as they grow and export it to the world. You're dumb.
>>21620633Don't be proud of not reading, anon. That's what has made you so dumb.
>>21621709Then where's yours? Being brief has not made you witty so far.
>>21623099well they actually do love it, mint is used to season a lot of food there and they drink a fuckton of mint tea, but yes I'm sure they also export quite a lot too
>>21623099>They don't "love" it so much as they grow and export it to the world. You're dumb. But there has to be a reason why they would grow it over any other crop that they might grow in that same arable land. There also must be some reason why other countries don't grow it anywhere near to the same extent. Can you explain both of those things?
>>21623500As others pointed out, mint tea is huge in Morocco and mint is pretty big in their cuisine too. And on top of that, mint spreads very quickly and is easy to grow, so if they're already growing a lot for their own uses, it's very easy to build that outwards into an export economy too. They also have a perpetual Mediterranean climate which means they can grow it year round and export it to colder countries in the winter. There's a lot of factors that likely go into it.
>>21620459Who gives a fuck?
>>21623983>Who gives a fuck?I do. I just find it strange that 84% of the world's peppermind comes from this desert country where I'd have never expected it.
>>21624584it's not really just a "desert country" though. half of Morocco is a fertile Mediterranean climate. you could find this out in 2 minutes of research.
>>21624584>I'd have never expected it.Fitting for a retard.
>>21623500One leads to the other. Other countries don't bother so much with peppermint, which creates a market opportunity. Morocco fills that niche and profits in a relatively non-competitive market, while also incorporating the abundance into their diets
>>21620621>I don't know that peppermint tea drinking is such a big deal in Morocco. Is it really the case? Are you that dumb ????>So they'd have to be drinking this stuff by like the gallon per capita in order for their consumption of it to correlate with their production. You fucking retard, they drink it all fucking day ! Everywhere !
>>21620469what the fuck is wrong with this board holy shit
>>21624633>it's not really just a "desert country" though. half of Morocco is a fertile Mediterranean climate. you could find this out in 2 minutes of research.Okay. But why use that Mediterranean climate to grow a temperate climate crop? If they love mint so much, why don't they just import it but use their Mediterranean climate to grow Olives or something which is a much more valuable cash crop?
Mint grows like a retard when absolutely BLASTED by the sun. You only have to water it well.
>>21620469>>21620580>>21621709>>21623983>>21624675Imagine getting this angry and seething this much over a thread about Mint on a Food board. There's a lot far worse stuff going on in the world to justifiably get upset and angered about, but you guys blow your tops over something as chill as this.
>>21626716as >>21626766 mentioned, mint grows aggressively in the sun. it's a great climate to grow it in. and they can grow it all year round, so why would they import it from other countries that might have limited growing seasons, when instead they can export it to those countries in their off season?also, they do grow olives, and a lot of other shit, you know they can grow more than one thing? mint is a very easy plant to grow and doesn't take a lot of space, it's not cutting that much into their available agricultural space.
>>21626716and another thing is that Morocco has cheap labour because it's a developing country, so importing from other countries with higher labour costs makes no sense. it's much more economically viable to grow it themselves, and they can ship it to Europe to whom they are very close to geographically and where most of the continent has limited growing season so they import much of their produce for many months of the year.
>>21626716and sorry for the triple post, but another thing is that mint might be a niche product that they've been able to corner the market on compared to other more widespread crops. I mean, clearly nobody else is growing it in the quantities that Morocco is, so if they stopped, who would be growing it? imagine the following process: they start growing mint for their own purposes -> see that there is a demand for mint on the global market not being met -> they expand their crops to fill that niche ->??? -> profit. now these are just basic observations, I'm not an expert. but it all seems fairly logical. I don't know why you're having such trouble with this.
This entire fucking thread is based on OP knowing so little about Morocco that they are stunned to find out that they actually grow herbs.
>>21626847>>21626853>>21626874Thanks, anon. Informative replies like this is what I was hoping for, rather than all the angry seething I mostly got.
