Chicory is from a time where coffee was scarce. It's a filler. Why anyone would purposely add it now is beyond me. And I'm smart. So there's no good reason.
Neither of these even qualify as coffee.

Between the two there's no difference in the plain ground no matter which variety you choose. IIRC Maxwell house has a "roasted with chestnuts" gimmick that isn't noticeable. You have to get into their flavored and instant products to rate the brands.

I would go for the instant packets instead when I was trying to save weight/space in the field. Packets hit better and are easier. Unless we were stationary, I had a mini propane stove we could use an actual coffee pot on and make cowboy coffee.
