This is zapiekanka. It's a Polish street food consisting of a toasted baguette topped with sauteed shrooms and cheese. Ketchup is often used as a condiment on these (and if you don't know the glory of Polish ketchup, you should damn well learn). It's not as well known as pierogi, stuffed cabbage, etc, and harder to find in the US outside Polish enclaves and big cities. What are some other ethnic treats that fall into this category?
yakisoba-pan. there’s like one or two stores in my city that have it and not even regularly
looks good minus the ketchup.
looks good minus the food.
Perhaps they are lesser known for a reason. Barf.
>>21623929Just a Great Plains guy that moved out east and has been discovering all kinds of food.

>>21623827are arancini less known? yeah i think they are. Sicily, ItalyI used to eat these all the time as a kid but they do them better in sicily
>>21624249It's the same thing but with steak on top

>>21623852that looks horrible desu anon
>>21624254so in other words a different thing
>>21624251Why are you so stupid? Why is everyone here so stupid?
pizza burek. Layered phyllo dough filled with ham, mushrooms, ketchup and cheese. If bees had knees, this'd probably be them.
>>21623852I know this from anime...heh
>>21624253Yeah I'd say arancini fits the bill here. A lot of people don't even know the name so pizzerias and italian joints here call them "rice balls"
>>21624314Oh yeah I’ve heard of this. I love phyllo type breads
>>21623827African mud cakes with mosquitoes for extra protein. Chinese river rocks in bat sauce
>>21623827Yummy!
>>21623827Good stuff but you should put ham or chicken on thoseI can devour two with chicken in one sitting

>>21623852Jfc bugs will put noodles in anything! Who thinks this shit up lmaoImagine to subway and being like to let me g t that Italian herb and spices 12 inch and chuck a shit load of noodles in it thanks
>>21626086Bugs?
>>21623827do boudin balls count? the pepper jack stuffed ones are great.
>>21623827I would like to make this and would be an excuse to buy baguettes.
>>21624236You can simulate it by taking 1 part normal ketchup 1 part white vinegar and mixing them.
>>21623827>What are some other ethnic treats that fall into this category? The garlic buttery fried dough in Budapest, covered in sour cream and garlic. Langos.
>>21624432Another great one is burek with sour cream and smoked meat, if you eat it get some water since it's slaty.
>>21626227Well actually you're supposed to use a softer kind of milk bread, not a typical baguette. And you don't have to saute the mushrooms, just grate them raw and mix with the cheese. And top with lots of finely chopped chives (after baking).
>>21624253>>21624323Love arancini. I prefer the big baseball-sized ones though.
>>21626171Asians
>>21623852Love these with a little Kewpie
>>21623827African nose bones.
>>21627793>pizzawheres the meat?
In Bulgaria we call i a Princess, sometimes it's made with sausage meat, sometimes it's only cheese, or maybe ham and cheese or some type of salami. It's a staple in our country, grandmas make it for their grandchildren. I personally like the cheese only ones.
>>21628172
>>21628145you’re dumb
>>21628172>>21628176Of course there's Banitsa/Borek/Tiropita depending on were in Eastern/Southeast Europe you are. I've posted a few here when I make it. It's a savory pie with phyllo dough and the filling (as per my grandma's recipe) is feta type milk cow cheese, eggs, yogurt.I prefer to make it thinner because I like the crispy texture.
>>21628192Another good one is Tikvenik which is like Banitsa but the filling is shredded pumpkin and walnuts, It's so good when done right.
>>21623852This is a carb bomb
