GET OUT OF MY FUCKING RICE, ASSHOLES!
Does anyone have an actual solution? I keep all my rice in sealed jars but these fuckers come inside the original air sealed bag
>>
i usually get the red mites and the flour flies, for some reason flies will never infest flour that is in those plasticy paper type bags only the brown paper ones the good thing is that fly infested flour has more gluten once you shift it and use it which makes it great for pizza and bread
>>
>>21627474
Store the rice bag in the freezer for a few days after you buy it
>>
is this a 3rd world problem? never had them in my rice.
>>
Add dried chili peppers.

Apparently not l sealed enough.
>>
>>21627474
buy better rice.
>>
>>21627598
This, I buy 10-20lbs of rice at a time and never get weevils, though I eat my rice fairly quickly with 20lbs lasting 2-3 months.
>>
>>21627517
Yes, 3rd World America. In Europe we don't have this problem.

The problem is they aren't coming from the outside. They're coming from the inside. Look at how tiny these little buggers are. Now imagine just how small their eggs are. They lay eggs into the rice kernel. They end up surviving, hatching, growing, etc.
Do what this anon says, >>21627506 . Freezing the rice for a few days at least, some say go a week, will kill the eggs. You can do this with flour too.

I am barely a millennial and this did make me scoff/ elicited a tiny chuckle.

they live inside the rice, all rice is stored inside rice silos, those fucks lay their eggs inside the grains and with time they come out and eat the rice, many places deal with this by spraying the rice with insecticides that are not harmful to humans but most companies don't give a fuck and just sell it like that, if there's a brand you see this happens a lot change brand becase most likely all their rice is infected.

Cry all you want but I live like an animal and the only house pests I ever had are flies and mosquitoes during summer and the occasional moth
>>
>>21627517
you did, you just haven't noticed
>>
>>21627981
NTA, BUT I had rice weevils once about 2 years ago, the eggs (and weevils) are fairly obvious if you pay attention during the wash.

I tossed the rice that had weevils, cleaned out the storage container with very hot water and started buying slightly higher quality rice. I haven't seen a single weevil or egg since and I check regularly.
>>
Freezing rice prevents eggs from hatching but does NOT kill eggs. If you freeze it then store it outside of the freezer the eggs will still hatch.
The ONLY effective long-term storage solution is mylar bags + oxygen absorbers.
If you're not trying to store large amounts of rice, then just keep the rice in the freezer at all times - problem solved. Easy.
>>
>>21628178
I think i'll just stick to buying higher-end fresh-milled rice.
>>
>>21627817
Baaased. You finally got it. What do you think??? I recently made sushi with some of the sun dried stuff. Absolutely amazing.
>>
>>21627474
Bake all of it to kill the eggs then store in the fridge
>>
>>21628226
Fantastic mouth feel and stands up really well cold. Flavor falls a bit short compared to the sun dried stuff, but it's not lacking in flavor either.
>>
why cant i just cook the rice with bugs in it? the boil cleans the germs
>>
>>21628372
This. You wont die if you eat them. Who cares.
>>
>>21628372

extra protein

When you buy your rice in the store, turn over the clear bag and look for white powder inside the bottom layer. These are the eggs. Just a bit of heat, or humidity and bam they are hatched, and now they're in your house, pantry, etc. Also, the white powder has a bitter and tained flavor in your rice (another good reason to rinse your rice).
Ignore a store where you see that, and buy smalller packages of rice if needed. It may be in your home already, and you might have to pitch all your food not in cans. Pastas, crackers, cardboard boxed rice mixes and such.
>>
>>21628372
Keeps a lot of poor from dieing of vitamin deficiency.
>>
>>21627474
Stop buying poverty brands from ethnic markets.
>>
>>21627474
Clean out you dry storage pantry and start all over. The bastards will crawl into anything opened things forgotten shall become a fecund infestation harboring generations of pests. Sucks to throw out food so use up stuff until empty then give it a thorough cleaning including the rest of you home because those cunts love traveling.
>>
>>21629314
only flour and rice in my 'pantry' im not some white woman buying a million processed snacks and bars
>>
>>21627474
If you get them it's no big deal. Wash your rice. They float to the top so you can easily strain them out.
>>
>>21627474
I have the same exact kind of bugs. What are they anyway? Some kind of beetles?
>>
>>21627773
>I get rice from china.
Why
>>
Grain weevils cannot reproduce unless the grain remains intact.
Death watch beetles will eat anything, even Navy biscuits, which are as hard as armor plate.
>>
>>21627474
Put some ginger and star anise in the bag with the rice.
>>
>>21627474
buy kosher and you won't see that problem.
