Hey anons, I'm trying to make better financial choices and I got a slow cooker because I know it's good for cooking cheap cuts of meat. Any advice/recipes you guys have? Stuff like what I should cook the meat in and what the cheapest cuts of meat are. I don't mind organ meat, I know a pound of chicken livers are only $2 at my store
>>21633316Go buy some cookbooks at the thrift store.

There are at least 20,000 slow cooker recipes online. Get off your arse and look.

>>21633438>8 hours on highI dunno there
>>21633316My mother only used it for pot roast.
The basics is a broth, vegetable, and protein. So for something like chicken, try chicken thighs, a cup or two of chicken broth (you can save money by using bouillon cubes), a little butter, and a sauteed onion. Add more vegetables or use a similar dark-meat cut of chicken if you want a more complete meal immediately. Over time (I cook this stuff to shit, softer the better), the chicken will break down into an all-purpose pulled chicken you can use for anything - just remove the bones and soggy skin. Chicken sandwiches, chicken with rice, chicken curry, chicken anything, this is how it starts. Same principle for pork loins or pork butt. Obviously salt to taste. If you cook in large batches, you'll need surprising amounts of salt. The standard, however, is beef pot roast. Same principle as chicken, except with beef bouillon and a beef chuck roast. Sear the beef in a regular pot to brown the outside first. Then, transfer to the few cups of bouillon juice in the crock pot. Sautee onion in the beef fond. Transfer onion atop the beef. Add some butter and salt. High for 8 hours or whatever. Keep salting to taste. This is the total basic idea of pot roast - expand with various spices, wines, or acids when you feel comfortable with the basics.

>>21633444I only use your mother to roast pot.
>>21633440he probably has an old worn out one he's been using for decadesyou can put it on low for like, 4 hours, and check it every hour to see when it's done
Offall doesn't generally take too well to slow-cooking. It's the total opposite, quick flash fries for liver etc. Beef heart does very well but it's more muscle than organ so is an outlier. But one of the cheaper cuts left. Tongue is also another similar option.Lots of the traditional slow-cook joints and cuts are approaching the costs of the prime as they've all become trendy. So brisket etc.Knuckles, trotters, off-cuts and meaty bones will be some of the cheaper things you can get and that will take wel to slow cooking.Generally the best thing is to take what you can find since again, brisket etc are quite expensive now, so it's just good to cheap your eyes out for cheap tough braising cuts etc. Fatty chicken thighs or even fatty birds like whole duck I've cooked in a slow cooker.Another note is that high and low are both the same temperature. The difference is that low will take about 8 hours to come up to temperature and high will take 4 hours. But they both have the same temperature cut-off
id recommend returning i t and getting an instant pot instead. way more versatility

Any bean dish, typically cost nothing but take too long to cook.Carnitas, pulled pork. Pork stock, borsche. Beef brisket. There aren't a lot of croquet chicken dishes, tangine.Nobody uses the electric samovar anymore because the electric multi pot is so much not useful
>>21633550you can do slow cooking in an instant pot too which is why i said versatility
>>21633316Pulled pork is always easy. Sandwiches for a week.
>>21633597Jesus, imagine printing that. How embarrassing.
>>21633586You sound like a working class chump. I bet you thought it would be a great "investment", how you would wake up to a warm, healthy breakfast to start off your long day. Maybe, you even had a couple thoughts about all the other nifty little uses you could find for the thing, how it would help you cook healthier meals in general, shed a couple pounds off the old gut, boost your confidence around work and with the ladies. Yeah, maybe that slow cooker would start your life cooking again, wouldn't it? I can see your strained hands holding the box and reading through it carefully at the store. A little bit pricey, but you're the type of guy who thinks everything is more than you can spend, aren't you. And look what happened to you. Look what the slow cooker did to you. Fucked you over, and made you clean it like a useless bitch. You don't even fucking like oatmeal. Piece of shit, you've been repeating those three words your whole life, haven't you. Yeah, how was work after that piece of shit fucked you over? I bet it was on your mind the whole day, you probably didn't say shit to nobody. Can't be telling people about your mistakes. How your little fix yourself plan, failed you. Don't want people to start thinking you're the failure. You're the piece of shit, all along. You don't want that do you? You don't want to be the piece of shit everybody secretly whispers about, do you? Was your father a piece of shit like you? I bet he never had a slow cooker. He had a woman, a house, a damn good job. I bet it's slow cooking you the fuck alive, isn't it. Comparing yourself to him. How one day when all the steam runs our of your life, you'll discover how you're nothing more than burnt shit to be scrapped off and thrown in the trash.
>>21633619If I was you I would also find existence embarrassing
>>21633548they cost more to buy and more to run. There really is not a great deal of things you NEED to pressure cook. There's also not many meals you can pressure cook and get to taste the same as a slow cook. Like puled pork in a pressure cooker is not as good as slow cooked.I'd definitely get a slow cooker first first and then an instant pot. You will end up using both for different things and it's aso nice to have the option of both, even if you just use the instant pot to slow cook as well.
>>21633732This has been my experience. I enjoy having a pressure cooker for things but you can only do so much to substitute for time. It's probably the least necessary thing I have in my kitchen when my cats aren't in there begging for food.

>>21633597Pulled pork recipe:>4lb pork loin, trimmed of fat (or not)>2-3 onions, chopped smallly>2-4 cups bbq sauce of choice>loin in pot>top with onions>top with sauce>cook lo 7-9hrs or hi 4-5hrs, until meat is tender>shred pork with fork, mix with sauce & onions (may be easier if you remove the entire loin)I like to add a carrot, shredded with a box grater, to the onions. It adds a note of sweetness.
>>21633316>Any advice/recipes you guys have?just look up a recipe online for whatever you're gunna make . worst case, slap some meat & veg in with some kind of sauce for 8 hours and anything will taste good. bonus points if you do it on a day off where you get stoned at home all day playing vidya. house will smell amazing and when you're hungry you dont have to do anything, just serve it up homie
>>21633586>this is the cooking boardnah /ck/ has been a testing ground for viral /v/ shitposts for like 15 years now. people test new shitpost techniques and baitposts here before doing them on more active boards.
I can't google this question. Are there any recipes that aren't slop? Even the pulled meat recipes I've used are inherently sloppy. I don't mind it, I frequently make a big batch of sloppa and eat it for lunch and dinner the whole week, but my wife can't handle constant sloppa.
>>21634497Crockpots are made for sloppa. That's pretty much all that you can do with them. They're for lazy meals that cook all day while you work and those tend to be soups/stews/chili/etc.
>>21633316Look up butchers on YouTube. By pound large less processed cuts are where the value is at. Organ meats have high nutritional value if you can source them cheap. Get a couple months worth, portion and freeze.
>>21634135Looks yummy
>>21633356AAAAAIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE YOU CANT ASK FOR RECIPES ON THE COOKING BOARD THIS PLACE IS ONLY FOR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE BEST CHICKIE SLOP NIGGERSANDWICH AAAAAAAAAThe best slow cooker recipe is wrapping this faggot up in tinfoil and filling an oil drum with piss, boiling him up and feeding this pissfag stew to pigs which you later slow cook into pulled pork.
>>21633672>minor spelling mistake
Shredded Chicken for pretty much anything:4 chicken breasts, uncutOne half of a white onion dicedOne large can of your favorite salsa1 packet of taco seasoningDice the onion and put that in first. Then the chicken breasts on top of the onions. Then the seasoning packet and then the salsa. Add 1 cup of water afterwards and set on high for 3.5 - 4 hours. After, take the chicken out and shredded up and then put back into the crockpot. I use this recipe to make chicken for tacos, burritos, over rice, salad, etc. Its got great flavor and lasts awhile. I usually mix two medium sized cans of salsa. One mild and one mango.
>>21634548no it doesn't
>>21633316buy a roast with some carrots and onions. Anything else is a meme.
>>21633316Livers do not benefit from long, slow cooking. And there really aren't any "cheap cuts of meat" anymore. You missed that slow cooker savings boat like 15 years ago, maybe longer. Tails and short ribs and everything else that used to be inexpensive is now in fashion and there are no more secret tricks. The only advice I have is switching from beef to pork. Pork is still cheap. You can get shoulder for as low as $1.29/lb sometimes. Make pulled pork in the cooker. Delicious and cheap.
>>21634538crock pot is a meme for lazy women to make slop and pretend it's home cooking. cooklets buy them because they imagine putting ingredients into it in the morning and coming home in the afternoon to a finished meal. what they don't realize is that actual cooking takes time to brown meat and onions and shit which you aren't going to be able to do in a crock pot and don't have time for before work anyway. what you end up getting is sloppa where you just throw in meat with no sear and frozen vegetables with no color and a can of soup and end up with something edible but steeped in mediocrity. if your wife wants you to buy her a crock pot it means you aren't beating her enough.
>>21635154Sorry you don't understand the cooking equipment. Learn where your shift key is, lazy faggot.
>>21635018Nothing regarding food is a meme. You don't know what "meme" means.
>>21635157anything you make in your slop pot you could make properly in a pot on the stove or in the oven, but I guess that would take real effort you lazy cunt
>>21633316My best tip for a slow cooker is to make sure it's 3/4 full at minimum. My first slow cooker was the biggest one I could find, figured I'd cook in bulk to save cash, but when I tried to make smaller meals I learned the hard way that it'll burn the shit out of your food if it's not full enough. Also, a big bag of frozen meatballs and a bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce is the easiest party snack/potluck/weekend bachelor meal in the world. Stuff them in a kaiser roll or stand in the kitchen eating them straight out of the slow cooker with your hands like a giant raccoon.
>>21635154>>21635175Did a crock pot assault you in the past or something? Lmao
>>21634497For things like that and brisket etc I separate the meat off from the juices/sauce and boil them off in a pan to thicken them up or you can mix a bit of flour into a little bit of water to make a paste and use that as a thickener too if boiling it off doesn't seem to be working. Then I mix it back in with the meat in the slowcooker for another half hour / hour.
>>21635188>see any thread>WOMEN ANYONEthese chodes are the whiniest little twerps.
>>21635154It's still better than a frozen microwaved meal and sometimes people have to work and don't have time to cook. I used a crockpot a lot when I had to work 12 hour days in a factory 6 days a week.
