I just bought 10lbs of individually vacuum sealed salmon fillets
Give me ways to prep and cook it besides straight sashimi (it's marketed safe for raw consumption)
>>
just a tip, DO NOT THAW IT IN THE PLASTIC. remove the plastic first, then thaw.
>>
>>21636990
no, it just fucks up the flavor.
i'm from the midwest by the way.

Shiozake. Really good and relatively quick/easy.

>literally any intelligent thought
>REEEE YUROS REEEEE
what a sad time for america that intelligent thought is reflexively seen as offensive and foreign
>>
Brown sugar + mustard marinade (any sweet-sour thing, really) then pan seared/blackened with caramelized shallots on top.
>>
>>21636987
Other than trying a bunch of different rubs idk. Its salmon dude. How did you buy vaccum sealed fillets? I hate having to divvy everything up individually and sealing them all

eat it all raw
>>
Don't eat it raw.
>>
low temperature cooking (oven or sous vide) then quick grilling (with a torch if you have one)
salmon terrine (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foyx75CKTQM)
gravlax
cram

straight sashimi

Are you fucking retarded? How did you get to botulism from that?

My grilled instructions (I eat this like twice a week)
Lather each side in olive oil
Add spices to one side.
I like salt, pepper, and the Member’s mark Rosemary Garlic seasoning. Turn on grill at full heat. At around 300 degrees place the spices side facing the flame. Set timer for 3,6,9,12 minutes. The main concern is not burning the garlic or having actual flame on the salmon.
I like to flip every 3 minutes, if it gets above 500 degrees, the olive oil will ignite, so I put it on the upper rack of my grill. By 12 minutes your salmon will have a perfect orange crust.

Salmon pasta with leeks, onions, white wine and crème fraiche. I do it with frozen salmon when I can find some on discount and I love it.
>>
>>21636987
Make poke bowls, but the simpler Hawaii style, not the salad with some fish the mainland likes to call poke.

90% one side, 10% the other. Don't fiddle with it.

Basic protein use:
>pan fry
>cook en papillote with various vegetables and glazes
>oven bake without paper
>grill/bbq
>steam on top of boiling vegetables when in a healthfag mood
>poke bowls
Above can all be done with various carbs (rice, pasta, noodles, potatoes), vegetables, rubs, sauces and glazes as you get bored.

Stretched use:
>fishcakes
>pasta bakes, pasta sauces
>various types of salmon-in-pastry
You can of course also use it in curries or with crumbs or batter but I think that's a waste of salmon

More esoteric stuff:
>home cured in various ways, gravlax and similar
>terrine
>potted salmon
>sushi and gook techniques

Salmon is basically the easiest protein to prepare if you aren't stupidly paranoid about erring on the side of undercooked instead of overcooked. Honestly sushi would probably be low on the list of things I'd do with fillets.

Throw it on the grill, cook a mean garlic sauce and some sour sauce and pop open a bottle of Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and you're good.

DON'T BUY FROZEN
FROZEN RUINS THE TASTE AND MAKES THE FISH DRY WHEN COOKED
>>
>>21636990
Making shit up and then getting angry at it? Healthy. Very healthy.
>>
Isn't it generally a good idea to have a plan for what to do with something BEFORE you buy 10lbs of it, having no clue, getting bored after the first lb and leaving the rest to rot?
>>
>>21638646
Anon, there are people itt posting from the midwest, they'd never eat salmon at all if it wasn't frozen.
>>
>>21638932
I am in the midwest and I eat canned salmon occasionally, only sockeye though.
>>
>>21636987
Put in almost-boiling water and let soak for 15-20 min, then eat with plain boiled potatoes and a dollop of sour cream. This is the authentic way to "enjoy" salmon.

If you want something actually tasty go for something like baked salmon with tomato and cream pasta.
>>
>>21636987
Salt and pepper both sides, add garlic lemon and butter and broil for 15 min (depends on size)
>>
Marinate for an hour in a mix of Miso, Sake, Dashi, ground Ginger and Sugar, then cook in pan on low heat. Sugar content should be pretty high, so be careful or it will burn.
>>
I found a worm in wild caught salmon once. I ate the worm and made sashimi out of the salmon.

the red balls on top are tobiko (flying fish roe), the red julienned things by the wasabi are just pickled ginger (its pickled ginger normally used for meat like gyudon as opposed to the slices that you normally see for sushi but it tastes the same).
>>
>>21636987
Garlic, onion, parsley, salt, pepper, and lemon slices
Put in oven
Wa la
>>
>>21638646
no it doesn't you moron
>>
>>21636987
Put it on top of zucchini, salt and pepper it, dill weed, lemon slices on top, olive oil. Wrap in foil or parchment paper and bake.
>>
bagels my man. you can use the laughing cow instead of cream cheese
>>
>>21636987
cut it up, dip in flour, dip in egg/cream, dip in panko breading with spices, fry in your favorite fat (I prefer rice oil)
>>

salmon terrine
salmon coulibiac
>>

Almost all 'fresh' fish was already frozen.
>>

why do people buy relatively expensive things they don't know how to cook in large quantities?
>>
>>21637113
Except this whole board is "do americans really" and "americans don't understand that" and "flyovers really think that"
And you fucking know it
>>
>>21642849

DO AMERICANS REALLY?
>>
>>21642849
not him but it goes both ways here. there's some bong whose every single reply to any post ever has to include shitting on americans even if the post has nothing to do with the US or any country for that matter. and there are plenty of mutts who do the same for europe. hilarious given that the uk and us especially are more similar to each other than probably any other country. both are morbidly fucking obese with the most insane mystery meat combination of national cuisines.
>>
>>21642849
maybe 1 in 50 threads if that, stop being so fragile flyover-kun
>>
>>21642861
>hilarious given that the uk and us especially are more similar to each other than probably any other country
That's a silly statement given that Ireland exists. If you want to discount Ireland then NZ is more similar, then Australia, then Canada and then finally maybe the USA. I think you could actually make a solid argument for some other options like Denmark first though.
>>
>>21638565
thos shit is the worst. ordered a poke bowl at a restaurant and got a bowl of lettuce and fuck all fish
