Yeah good, sure I can do better tho. The grind looks coarse in the pic but idk, mostly look at brew time. Grinding with DF64.
Roasted 2 days ago so interested to taste how it changes over time, don't think I've ever had such fresh beans. They're supposed to rest mostly to offgas CO2 or is there more going on? these do be some gassy beans
>>
>>21637838
>rest mostly to offgas CO2 or is there more going on
All that gas is hindering water from getting where it needs to. Its really fucking hard to brew consistently day to day when your beans are rapidly changing. So you wait. Nothing w r o n g is going to happen by brewing fresh beans. Still going to make coffee. But it can be better.
>>
>>21637836
Yes.

I regularly feed coffee beans to my fat old retarded food obsessed dog. Started off just hearing a crunching sound after I'd drop a coffee beans on the floor, but now she salivates every morning when I start boiling water. >or is there more going on?
Besides what the other anon mentioned, the process of CO2 moving from the interior of the beans to the exterior pushes oils and other volatile compounds outwards, which generally speaking makes them easier to dissolve in a solution (re: extract). Whether or not this improves a brew depends on the degree of roast (this is why dark roasts accumulate oils on the surface of the beans) and of course, your personal taste.
When brewing very fresh coffee, you can grind up a dose and let it sit out for a while; the increased surface area compared to whole beans will allow it to degas more rapidly, making for easier brewing, but IME the taste profile is usually different compared to allowing the beans to rest whole.

PSA for burgers that are looking for a decently good handgrinder but don't want to spend jack shit, someone on ebay is selling pic related for $30. It's legit. The build quality is better than typical white label chink grinders but still a notch below the high end 1zpresso and timemores. The grind quality is great and it's really easy to crank. I've been using one for almost a year and decided to buy another for a backup at that price.

Recently caught a deal on a metric fucktonne of ground coffee for cheap. I wanna brew a lot at once but not go through the hassle of loading and brewing and reloading and rebrewing (and reloading and rebrewing and reloading and rebrewing) using a moka. Espresso ground is notoriously ill-suited for drip filters. Any suggestion for using up enough quickly to brew about 1500ml of coffee?

I just got an auto tamper and it's leaving some loose grinds on top. It's currently set to 15 pounds with the current spring in it. Is this a faulty taper? What's a reputable auto tamper?
>>
>>21639816
>and it's leaving some loose grinds on top.
i dont think thats what its doing
its leaving loose grounds on the side because its not a perfect fit(its a good enough fit)
these sides are then collapsing when the tamp is removed
OR
it is grounds stuck to the bottom of the tamp that is falling off onto the top of the puck after it has been tamped
its not not doing its job its just not as clean as it could be with a perfectly fitting tamp
if you are still worried you can do a second tamp
you cant over tamp and its not going to tamp any more the second time anyway, just probably clean up how the puck looks if that matters to you

I got some cleaning tablets, the ones you use to clean the group head by backflushing and whatever, but I think my Breville Bambino doesn't have this cleaning mode? It seems like the only cleaning mode is putting descaling solution in the water tank and running the cycle which goes through the whole thank + then rinses. Does anyone with a Bambino know if this is accurate? Also I guess I can use these tablets instead of descaling solution

it was just some random tamper on amazon. Probably chinese but I figured it would be better than the tamper that came with the flair. I just want to eliminate points of failure in my espresso workflow to get more consistent shots. IIRC I did double tamp one of the shots and still had those loose grounds. I could care less how it looks as long as it tastes great. So far I can't tell a difference between different bags of espresso and I think it has to do with my tamp. The turbo shots I pull are all distinctly different

wanted to brew a megapint of espresso
so 2 double shots in the same cup back to back
first shot was good
second shot was not locked in properly and started sliding out
luckily i noticed and turned the machine off in time
so all i got was 1 shot + the pre-infusion of the next shot
but thats better than spending 2 hours cleaning up my kitchen at 11pm after a blowout

Well, I brewed it simply pouring 1500ml of boiling water over 250g of coffee, letting it steep 5ish minutes then pouring from that vessel to another and from that one over a cone filter. Most of the sediment stayed in the first and second containers and the filters caught the rest. Took 5-10 minutes. An espresso machine woulda been faster, but that system was quicker than I expected and the results were surprisingly good.

Avoid non-Dark Roasts. Acrymilades in those have to be burnt out. Also don't have more than 16oz daily. Abusing caffeine, with the adrenals crapping out, is only going to compound your autoimmune woes (cortisol). Supplement B1 if you can't help yourself (strips it, hence the shakes/anxiety).

I'd avoid coated burrs on uber cheap grinders.

>>21643539
I can drink an xl mcondalds coffee and feel fine. But yes, dark roasts are always worse. All light or medium roasts are usually dark because they've been burned. Boutique coffee roasters are some of the worst offenders of this. Happy Goat and Little Victories in particular.

>>21643518
McDonald's doesn't do that. I know, 1 counter example doesn't mean I am God, but I don't see how that's help.

Heptagonals tend to be relatively similar in cup profile. It beat out a Timemore S3 in my blind tastings with medium and light roasts. The S3 had maybe slightly higher "flavor clarity" but a "darker" less enjoyable presentation. Like with a light roasted Ethiopian I was getting more brown sugar sweetness + graham cracker notes on the S3. Whereas the Z5 gave the more typical heptagonal style apple juice juiciness and sweetness + maybe some hints of mango. The graham cracker note on the S3 was a bit more clear and noticeable than the mango on the Z5. But I don't know how many people would prefer those darker drier notes being highlighted on their light roasts. The S3 is fantastic for dark roasts though. And the build quality is noticeably superior than the Z5. I'm shilling hard for this grinder at this price cause you're not going to get anything near this good for this cheap. lolno at the $140 retail price though.

Even with artificially depressed chick slave labor there's no way this thing could have been made for $7. A good portion of the parts look to be unique to zerohero. The crank handle and knob, the plastic parts, maybe the body and catch cup. The cone burr is definitely a custom heptagonal design.

its not the same as cafe style foam, but its good enough

i thought about learning to steam milk but to do it properly you need 120ml of milk MINIMUM
and if i only want 40ml MAX then i have to dump that milk
im not keeping it 12-24 hours until my next coffee

I had a nice drip coffee from my drip machine. Black of course.

Ironically my coffee bæns of choice are "Mountain Grown" variety, and my own tree is at sea level which I guess means they'll taste like bleach and homeless sweat. They're so ripe they're about to drop on the ground and rot so I really have to harvest them tomorrow or else. I look forward to my first experience cleaning, drying, and roasting coffee beans even if they taste like miracle grow.

Your dinner sounds nice, I love risottos of all kinds, but mushroom is my favourite. I've sworn-off bread, rice, nuder, and pasta for the last couple months so my face gets slim again for Tinder photos, so for me it's just meat and veg. Would kill for a spoonful of 'sotto.

yes or it gets clogged
you can grind finer and use a fine metal filter and then push the water through the bed of coffee to extract properly, not clog and not get particles getting through
but thats just an aeropress

why shouldn't I just put coffee grounds into an insulated burgundy wine glass, fill the water to the depth of the bowl where surface area is maximized, and immediately start swirling as and assessing the coffee over the length of the entire brew process until it reaches a point of overextraction? The cupping protocol for scraping/skimming the crust seems hilariously dogshit at consistently removing all the grinds to prevent overextraction. How am I supposed to conduct sensory analysis across multiple cups in close proximity when they're all filled to the rim and aromas are flying across the room? Why not use a cup with a tapered rim that allows for more focused aromatic analysis?

Are added-caffeine products /ctg/?
I got shilled a whey protein """cold brew""" drink mix that's basically coffee flavoured protein powder with added caffeine
Actually was decent tasting so rather than paying for a pre-made mix, I'm thinking of just buying my own whey protein powder and dropping in a dissolvable caffeine capsule pill

Anyone tried something like this with caffeine capsules before?
>>
>>21648267
>caffeine
no this is a coffee general not a caffeine general
but considering the product in question is "cold brew" then it sort of kinda counts.
>dropping in a dissolvable caffeine capsule pill
or you could just buy pure caffeine powder
>>
Washed pink bourbon or natural process catiope?
>>
>>21648267
A caffeine pill won't impart any flavour (or if it does, it'll be bitter) to whatever whey you're using, and if it's unflavoured protein powder it's just gonna taste like a weak milk taste if you mix it with water. So pill + powder + water = cold brew isn't true.
Have you considered making cold brew and then adding the powder to it?
You can get a hario mizudashi cold brew pot and cheap pre-ground (medium roast preground, cold brew merges flavour notes so expensive coffee isn't worth it, get whatever is cheap/on special, the only flavour note that can come through as a negative is if they over-roasted beans in the roast then ground it which can create an awful burnt flavour). You'll have 80g to 100g of grounds for about a litre of water.
This makes a concentrate you will want to dilute probably 2 or 3 parts water to 1 part cold brew then add the powder & mix it. Maybe add a little actual milk to increase it's milk taste.
How much are those caffeine pills?
>>21648316
pink bourbon
>>
>>21648316
pink bourbon unless it's some shitty terroir or outside colombia with dominant citrus notes and not enough honey, flowers, figs, stone fruits
