A friend just gifted me some Artichokes. Never cooked with them before. What do?
>>
Steam them then eat with tasty dip.
>>
I would start by cooking with them

>rub hands with lemon
>cut 1/2 to 2/3 off top
>peel outside leaves
>scoop out fibers from center
>trim stem to tasty soft inside
>rub cut areas with lemon
>turn upside down
>fry in olive oil
>sprinkle with salt

You have to clean them well which 90% of people can't do
just stir cook them in EVO afterwards

Ive watched a few videos online so far. Yeah they seem kinda simple to work with just gotta break them down and clean them up a bit.
I think im gonna try to, er,, attempt to cut chunks out and deep fry them.
Considering trying to pickle some also, never had that before.

You can also just reduce them to the hearts and toss them in some simple pasta like aglio e olio.

He said the best most simple thing yet though.
You steam them in shallow water that also boils the base and then eat them leaf for leaf with a dip, traditionally an oily one with onions, egg and pickles

Look out for millipedes

Tell him to choke on this *Unzips

No idea, check youtube

stir garlic and salt into clarified butter, squeeze a lemon for its juice, steam or pressure cook your artichokes and allow to cool until you can handle. Pull out a leaf, dip the inner starchy part in butter and lemon juice, and scrape the dipped part across your front teeth. Swallow and repeat with another leaf. Discard what's left over. Drink light cava with this. Yum.

aaaah okay. so im still trying to figure out this vegetable. The starchy inner edible part rests on top of the hard leafy thing, then it repeats? The very inner part is most desired?

For me is cutting off the tip, trimming the tips off the leaves, halving and scooping out the choke, then steaming them in the oven wrapped in foil with lemon juice, salt/pepper, olive oil and white wine. Takes 45 mins to an hour.

The inner part from the base of the stem to the underside of the choke is the heart. If you're cooking then just to eat the heart, you're going to be seriously disappointed because it's small as fuck. You have to eat the scrape the flesh of the leaves with your teeth for artichokes to be worth it to make.

This is a great video on preparing Roman-style artichokes. I've done this method dozens of times and they're amazing.

Throw them in pressure cooker 10-15 min, make a basic bitch sauce with olive oil lemon and salt and eat

Is gifted even a real word, or is it just more modern American speak?
