How did such a unique, polarizing flavor become the second most popular soda in America? Even in the US I know people who say it tastes like cough syrup and hate it. But the people who like it are autistically die hard about it. What went right for Dr Pepper?

Well your options for big name drinks other than Coke and Dr Pepper are Pepsi, the drink with an identity built off of being an inferior alternative, Sprite which is marketed towards blacks, Mt. Dew towards gaymers, then a bunch of niche drinks.

I feel like you can imagine the taste of Dr Pepper more clearly than other brown sodas besides maybe root beer. So people crave it more frequently, it just has a more distinct flavor in your minds eye.But after saying all this, Dr Pepper hasn’t been tasting as flavorful as I remember it tasting as a kid and it’s pissin me off
