What did unaccompanied eaters use to do before the smartphone? Did they literally just sit there and chew?
>>21638883TV, radio, newspapers, listen to music? Also its not like you need to do anything in particular because god forbid you be alone with your own thoughts
I've always eaten lunch and dinner in front of my pc for as long as I can remember. Breakfast when I was a kid was a bowl of cereal in front of the tv before school. Or when staying at my grandparents' it was two slices of toast at the table while reading a magazine from the newspaper.
chew and watch
>>21638883I curse all who use they're smartphones in the midst of eating.
I would eat while watching reruns on tv or while listening to music on the radio (usually due to temporary loss of cable and lack of owning an antenna for over the air channels). Back in the late 90's it was usually SImpsons and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reruns, sometimes NBC "must see tv." In the early to mid-90's, ABC's TGIF block on Friday evenings.

>>21638883We used to read the cereal box as kids. Back then you would get toys in the box and/or games on the back you could play. Lunch and dinner was spent talking to each other.

>>21639130>>21639541before the 1940's that's how ALL people looked. the people who you have to watch out for are the ones that go around with a smile on their face. those are the true NPC's.people did not smile unless there was a reason because (before the 1940's) only crazies, and retards smiled all the time.
>>21639207THIS!when we moved in to our new much bigger house we started eating at the table together. no tv, no phones, no radio. just us, food and conversation. the same when we go out. no phones at the table.
>>21638883Why do I need to be distracted while eating. Even with my smartphone I basically spend my time eating, eating. I typically need a couple hands to properly eat. At a bar I try to avoid using my smartphone anyway, watch whatever TV's on in the place, sometimes strike up a good conversation and you're not alone anymore.
