I don't even care about the cringe reddit speak, this is objectively a dog shit recipe for chili. Zero actual chilis, just 4 teaspoons of generic mccormick chili powder and a tablespoon of cayenne. Literally more flour (what the fuck) and sugar than chilis. And of course he has to add le heckin beer-orino. My only surprise is he didn't go full retard and add dark chocolate and coffee too.

I've been told that I already make pretty good chili but I recently got a spice grinder on sale and this year I'm hoping to grind up my own chili powder blend and step up my game. I'll be eating like a king for the one month that Texas will actually be cold.

this is what 4chan sounded like back in the day. it's almost jarring to look at old shit I saved from back then because it really is proto-reddit humor, there just weren't as many angry faggots seething over it.

No, it really isn't. That pic has been a laughing stock here forever.

I was here. I've been laughing at people getting angry at pictures of food for a long time.
>>
>>21640156
yeah, it really, really was. I'm not referring specifically to whoever made these recipe images but talking like this was all over this site. the like a boss shit especially lasted a long time. a lot of already bad jokes just beaten to death in the exact same way reddit does now. it was however easier to enjoy it for what it was because there wasn't some faggot pointing at you spamming seethe cope dilate tranny good morning saar every other fucking post.

If you were actually here back then, you would know that it's true. Where do you think reddit got all of its shit from? They copy us then make it gay and retarded, that's always been the case.

These anons aren’t wrong.
I miss when /b/ was still good, granted I was just lurking as an edgy kid in like 2010.

I’ve got an old laptop that’s been dubbed “shittop” that someone kicked the screen in on so it has to be HDMI’d up to a telly/monitor to work but that thing jumped with me from sketchy living situation to sketchy living situation in my younger years and it has a bunch of movies/tv/music on it and my old reaction folder + meme trove.
I’ve been meaning to boot up shittop to make a nostalgia music playlist because I’m damn near 30 and have lost my zest for life and thought that might help me get it back, this was the push I needed to actually dig it out.
Thanks y’all.
It’ll be really fun listening to old music and going through files, I’m gonna make an evening of it.

what's "chili season"? I eat chili all year around. since when is there a "chili season"?
>>

Seems like typical bachelor chow. I'd wager most of the fast foodies on this board couldn't even manage to cook that.
>>
>>21642001
in some parts of the country you don't turn on the stove or oven between may-oct.
>>
>>21642027
I live in the southwest we eat and make chili all year round
>>
>>21642038
you are used to it being hot year round, we get acclimated to the cold for half of the year and when summer comes around we have to reacclimate to the heat while keeping our homes cool.

>>21642046
the times when my AC has broken in the middle of the summer has really made me wonder how you guys do it. by the 2nd or 3rd day it’s so suffocating and miserable
>>
>>21642046
that's a load of shit. no we are not "used to it". we just don't have stupid rules about food.
>>
>>21642083
what rules? people just grill and BBQ in the summer to keep the house cool.
>>
>>21642070
Holy fuck you just reminded me of the entire summer my parents were struggling to keep the house from getting foreclosed on when the AC broke.
Flawda is NOT livable during the summer.
I just remember being exhausted all the time and being literally unable to sleep because I was sweating so much.
For like three, four months.

Actual food cooking question here:
When reviving dried chilies should I keep the water they’re boiled in or dispose of it?
I’ve heard that you should get rid of it because it is bitter but I said that in front of someone and they acted like I’d blasphemed.
>>
>>21642305
i've always added the water
>>
>>21642314
thanks b0ss
>>
>>21639809
corn sounds perfectly fine and n/s american. Idk what the black olives would do but i doubt they'd be a huge negative
>>
>>21639822
but it smells like touchdowns
>>
>>21639611
No
>>
>>21640137
Nothing bad with having the powdered stuff on hand, but if you want to make better chili, just do it the normal way by keeping the whole dried chilies intact for storage, then when you want to use them, toast them in a pan, then soak them in water for like 30 min (or boil if you're impatient) and blend. The same logic goes for buying whole spices and toasting them.

Spice grinder is great though. Blend your dried chillies (dude, watch out for the air though, it's gonna be spicy af), blend your spices, all good.

>>21642305
>because it is bitter
Did you taste it? Not all chili water is super bitter. Good ones legit just taste like delightful spicy tea. Just taste it; if it's far too bitter, don't use it, and if it taste good, use it all.
>>
>>21639611
Onions and carrots (bare min from the stock) have some sweet taste to it. If you find it's not enough to bring out the flavor/sweetness of the chilies, you can put sugar or sweet chocolate or panela or wtv you want, or nothing else at all; it's your chili.
>>
>>21642384
*and reduce the bitterness
>>
>>21642385
Sweet chocolate in chili sounds pretty gross to me. It makes OP's recipe seem decent in comparison.
>>
>>21642387
Guy, not everybody is using 100% unsweetened dark chocolate/cocoa for their chili. There's generally gonna be some sugar in it. Also nice to snack on, as my niece knows (greedy bastard)
>>
>>21642393
Are you from Ohio? I heard that they put sweet chocolate, cinnamon, and allspice in their chili.
>>
>>21642394
No, never did that before, but those ingredients sound like something more southern mexican, kinda like mole. Never actually used allspice other than for pumpkin spice or jamaican stuff, so not too often. Kinda wanna try ohio chili now
>>
>>21642393
*There's gonna be sugar in the chocolate, not the chili necessarily. You don't need to have chocolate in your chili, and if you choose to, you can add any type that fits.
>>
>>21642394
adding a bit of cocoa powder to chili is fairly common. skyline chili with the allspice and cinnamon is only for retards in ohio. I live there but I won't eat that shit. some bar near me serves it on a fucking pizza. almost puked when I heard that.
>>
>>21642378
No and I realized this as I was posting.
I thought “you should’ve just tasted it you fucking dunce” but I posted anyways because I’m not gonna go soak some peppers right this very moment in the name of food science.
Thanks anon.
I actually do have some nice peppers, I helped my brother move to Texas from the west coast and we stopped a shitton, lots of places in AZ and NM had good quality dried peppers for sale (at good prices) and I bought enough that flying home I needed a bag just for peppers.
I awkwardly told TSA “what I like peppers” when they were x-raying my shit.
