I do a moderate amount of home cooking but I generally don't like buying tons of appliances unless I absolutely need them. I've been on the fence about getting a proper food processor for a while but everything I may have needed one for I've managed either in small batches in my spice grinder (picrel) or with a shitty immersion blender. What are some things I could do with one that I couldn't already make with these?

>proper food processor
I’ve mostly used mine for shredding potatoes (which it is excellent for) or chopping a large quantity of nuts, but I don’t own one now and haven’t been willing to spend the money to get a new one

I use mine mostly to make things like salad dressings, mayonnaise, and other emulsions, but you can do that with an immersion blender. The only advantage it really has over the immersion blender is dicing or shredding things. I like using it to dice onions or garlic when I'm too lazy to do it by hand.

Shit is cache for onion, garlic, carrot, etc.

Those of you who use it for shredding or dicing things: how much volume are you making? For you? Or your family? Do you make a unch ahead of time? Like do you always have a container of fresh chopped onions in the fridge that you replenish a week or...? Cuz I can't imagine pulling out that appliance for just 1 dish/meal.

I bought a small FP a number of years ago but I have only used it twice.

It may save me time if I had a family to cook for but I live alone, so slicing a small amount of stuff by hand (even though I do batch cook sometimes) is no real big issue.

I would stick with your spice grinder, I cook a look of curries so it's handy and an immersion blender (great for mashed potatoes).

grate box cheese
I make hummus
that's mainly what I use mine for
I'll pull it out to make pie crust too, graham cracker or shortbread cookie type
shreds and slices vegetables
it was well worth the 35-40 bucks new a few years back

This is actually one of the reasons I was considering getting one that I've used my spice grinder for lol.
I appreciate all the answers but it sounds like it's just not that useful to me, I don't mind spending a little extra time cutting stuff by hand.
