which brand of airfryer/toaster oven things arent a piece of shit? it seems like they all have their major flaws

I just want to cook some chicken strips and maybe a pizza
>>
>>21653703
>airfryer/toaster oven
Incredibly snoy OP.
It's by people who don't like oil.
>>
>>21653704
They are literally just countertop convection ovens.
>>
They're all shit, just pick one on sale and be happy with it. Because while they all shit, they are still more portable and easier to wash convection oven. Place the chicken inside, get your finely fried chicken 20 minutes later.
>>
>>21653704
>just spend $15 on oil every time you get hungry bro
>>
>>21653703
toaster ovens are all the same and theres no reason nto to get one from a thrift shop other than having to do a first-time deep clean

air fryers in my experience aren't any better than a toaster oven because 99% of them are chinesium junk that aren't even a "countertop convection oven" and are just a a toaster oven with more foldy bits
>>
>>21653707
>>...every time you get hungry bro
That's what oil is supposed to lower hunger, if you don't consume oil you will be hungry again 2 hours later.
>>
>>21653703
The cheapest ones.
No IoT shit. Pure mechanical controls.
>>
>>21653710
>Pure mechanical controls.
this but I modded with cheap ebay PID controller for precise temp control. still going strong after many years
>>
>>21653709
That's what fat is for not oil. Oil eaters develop squirrel cheeks.
>>
>>21653703
Countertop convection ovens are the better of the two, but more expensive and you need to get an actual countertop convection oven. Only get one on sale, they go on deep discounts all the time at brick and mortar stores. Wolf is a safe brand, I've had mine for ~20 years and no issues.

Air fryers are alright for reheating fried foods or frozen shit like fries or nuggies or whatever. I rarely use mine except when I'm being lazy as fuck, usually dumplings or fries.
>>
hey dumbass, pizza goes in the oven, not the air fryer
>>
>>21653713
theres tons of them on sale rn on amazon. im looking at a cosori but IDK if its good or not

"COSORI Toaster Oven Air Fryer Combo, 11-in-1, 26QT Convection Oven Countertop"
>>
>>21653703
I have a cusinart toaster oven thats lasted for over 5 years. Led is a bit fucked up after 3 years or so but not a big deal.
>>
>>21653715
Better to wait till black friday or, potentially preferably, after Christmas and not get a no-name chinknesium brand. Many of them are toxic and shed chemicals into your food. I dunno what your budget is, but make sure there's no PFAs or whatever.
>>
It's a fucking oven, use your oven.

expensive but totally worth it. i've owned cheaper airfryer/toaster ovens before but this one has been the best by far
>>
I've got a 2 drawer ninja, works well.

The bigger the compartment, the crappier the air fryer. Because it requires a bigger fan they'll probably cheap out on.
>>
>>21653709
Fat nigger, too early for mutts so I don't know what gypsy abomination you are
>>
>>21653719
Concur. I've been using an earlier model of this for over ten years, might be time to upgrade. Hopefully their quality hasn't gone down.
>>
Dualit toaster if you can afford it
>>
>>21653704
I don't like dealing with deep frying either. Whatever chemslop they put on good oven fries nowadays, it really works. I might shallow fry something, but no more deep frying.
>>21653707
That's why you use hard fats for a deep frier, tallow or palm oil. Solid fat doesn't spoil too fast and the deep frier is easier to move/store.
>>
>>21653703
every airfryer with a plastic shell is a piece of shit that will kill itself as the plastic corners slowly degrade and then fail to maintain its own shape, forcing you to slam the shake tray until it finally fails and refuses to stay closed. tricking goy into adopting disposable cooking devices is the most jewish shit ever.

my gas oven is over 20 years old, still works. but i have to buy an air fryer every fucking year because they are made out of garbage with obvious points of failure. current airfryer is only working because i rubber band the mother fucker to keep the tray closed.
>>
>>21653703
I wanted to get one to easily roast veggies but I couldn't find one that didn't look like a rip off.
>>
>>21653725
>slamming the tray closed like i'm reloading a printer like I'm loading a .50
sounds good nigga

>>21653726
roasting veggies is low n' slow and you want standing hot air. air fryers wouldnt be great for veg since they're higher temp
>>
>>21653725

Avoid basket fryers. They tend to be cheaply made and annoying to clean. They are also limited to basically just air frying, so they're worse in all regards. Also avoid ones that use non-stick coatings. You want something you can apply steel wool onto every couple of months when normal soap and water no longer cuts it.

Avoid anything with a touch screen or those shitty "not really a touchscreen but it's still just a capacitive touch" buttons. Dials are the best way to go, with physical buttons a good alternative.

I have one of these Breville ovens. Fully stainless steel, has a slot for the broiler, and has a powerful fan for air frying. Bonus is that it can get temperature low enough for dehydrating, so I use it for drying 3D printing spools. A bit expensive, but will outlive 3-4 cheap basket air fryers easily.
>>
>>21653738
>They tend to be cheaply made and annoying to clean.
This is because people use them wrong. I've got a little wire rack that goes in mine, I clean the basket itself maybe once a month, and the rack takes 2 seconds to wash.

I've had a small convection oven before, they're fantastic for something like cooking a whole chicken. Waste of energy for single portions. You're right about dials, though.

is there any good model that is also a microwave or at least not a single use appliance?

theres 2 ninja models SP300c and SP101c.

>>
>>21653738
>They tend to be cheaply made and annoying to clean.
Not true. They're easy to clean. The Breville, on the other hand, is a bitch to clean.
>>
>>21653741
No, microwaves are at odds with the concept.

It's not a single use appliance, a soup maker or a coffee maker is a single use appliance. Air fryers are just small ovens, anything you can do in a regular oven can be cooked faster and easier in an air fryer.

>>
>>21653747
Air fryers are not the same as mini convection ovens, despite what one retard spamming breville shit here thinks.

When you increase the size of the cooking area, you reduce the efficiency. A mini oven is a jack of all trades, master of none, while the air fryer is the optimal way to cook small amounts of food, and a real oven is the optimal way to cook a large amount of food.

When you combine a microwave and a mini oven, either you have a shit microwave, or a shit mini oven.

I got this bad boy (Ninja Foodi OP101) five and a half years ago when I lived in the dorms. It has a bunch of functions, but now that I have a kitchen I only use it for air frying. I've never used its pressure cooking function, that shit scares me desu, but my homie says it works great.
They fucked up making it this good. I've been waiting for it to die so I can justify buying a bigger one, but it's still going strong. One of the first things I did with it was plug it into a 230V outlet by accident and try to use it. It turned on, made weird popping noises, I realized I fucked up and unplugged it. Apparently not a problem. This thing's a beast.
I also got the Ninja cookware set from Costco. I'll shill for these guys any day, they earned it.

i'm in the UK, i have this cheap 2-litre Salter one i got for £20. no frills at all. barely any space, but good for a singular meal (e.g. chicken tendies, chips, veggies). takes minutes to hit 200 degrees C.

still going strong after 5 years. heats up, cooks food, easy to clean. definitely wouldn't fit something like a pizza though.

OP here, I ended up going with a cheaper one called "Philips 2000 Series Airfryer - 4.4 qt" while it was still one sale.

its cheap as fuck so if it breaks I won't be as sad as if I bought one of the $300+ ones

also I had to consider the old fuse box I have at my place, some air fryers/mini ovens can draw 15 amps and the fuses I have installed are all 15 amps and would probably blow and I'd have to go buy new ones.

would have been nice to be able to bake a frozen pizza once in a while but oh well.

is it possible to use like a wire rack thing to cook like 2 things at once ?
>>
BTW avoid any air fryers that use halogen bulbs.

they work great at first but if even a bit of oil, even from your fingers gets on it the bulb can eventually explode
>>
>>21653771
Yeah, but you'll need a rack that fits in it. It's all about air flow, as long as you aren't choking the lower layer completely, it'll cook, just a little slower.

googling seems like they only make racks for larger sizes you'll have to measure and find a generic one

Me and my family have gone through several over the years, and have had the best luck with Cosori. Decent size and outlasted others we've had. Good customer support too, the two times we had any issues (touch panel stopped working, and a recall), they sent free replacements.
That said, maybe consider just going for the cheapest one. It's a fan and a heating element above a basket, extra controls and "smart" features are just extra opportunities to fuck it up.

They absolutely do not work the same or as well as an actual air fryer.
Hybrids/convection ovens are much slower and screw with the texture more. Arguing they're the same because they both use hot air is like saying a moped and a race car are the same because they're both an engine on wheels. They'll both get you to the finish line, so what's the difference? At best it's misinformed and at worst it's deliberately posting in bad faith.

the 4.4qt seems like the limit for one person if you want to do everything at the same time.

I didn't pack too much frozen food in there to make sure it would cook properly. about 2 hand fulls a 3 tendies.

20 mins total cook time,no pre-heat just put it in, one shake/flip half way.

for 2 people you'd have to either cook in batches or get a way bigger fryer.

I think if I had a mini rack thing that was tall I could put a nice bit more fries and maybe 2 more tendies and it would all cook

Yes, I own one. It comes with an air fryer tray insert that is all metal. Neat little device, does oven, micro, and air fry, plus some combo modes I do not use. Galanz. They have larger ones if you need more cu foot space.

Great for clearing up space off the counter, as it fits in my microwave cubby.

The oven mode is handy as fuck, as I don't need to heat up a friggen huge ass oven for little tasks. Just don't forget the modes or you get sparks.
>>

That anon is lying because he can't google. There are 3-4 options on the market for you to choose from that incorporate an airfryer in the microwave.
>>
>>21653750
RETARD ALERT. RETARD ALERT.

An air fryer uses a heating element and a high power fan (high CFM) that runs at all times, circulating hot dry air over the food item. This is NOT convection, as the fan in convection ovens are used just to maintain temp. They are not used for airflow over the food. Additionally, to "air fry", one must coat the food in oil to provide a medium for heat transfer, or the food burns. This is fundamentally different from just shoving food into an oven per package directions. The end result of an air fry is a far crispier product, be it tendies or fries. The oven product is far inferior, which is why these became a "meme" device /ck/ constantly debates about because retards like this anon can troll that they are useless.
>>
>>21653758
The basket ones are kinda small. You have to fry in batches or shake. Too much food in them will overcrowd em.

LOL my POS Oster toaster oven that we got for like $30 ~13 years ago (looks like picrel) had the bottom timer knob fall off and there's what looks like a flathead screw behind it that controls the duration. For the past 3-4 years I've just taken a butter knife and stuck it in there to turn it directly on and add minutes.

Didn't pol hate seed oils? Make it make sense

I had that one in my cart during the amazon big deal thing but didn't get it but opted for a cheaper one as my first.

seems really good though, tons of space, can cook basically anything but I love in a old apartment with 15 amp fuses not even breakers.

that unit draws just over 14 amps and might blow the fuse if there is a fluctuation.

maybe if I could convert the plug and put it into the 240v ? but that would blow the unit idk enough about electrical

The best way to get gunk off the trays and basket is foaming oven cleaner. Get L-shaped steel nails, they're great for keeping baking paper down (pierce the corners, through the grate).

I use it to reheat my leftovers from Dorsia.

Seed oil causes that. Not butter and lard.

Air air fryer chicken wings even remotely close to regular deep fried or should I just keep going to BW3s?
>>
Does anyone have experience with the ninjas that have the megazone? Tempted to buy one on black friday.

Chicken in an air fryer tastes like it was on a propane grill.
>>
>>21655350
yes they make great chicken wings, it's actually what convinced me to buy one after my friend cooked us some wings in one. they're not as good as deep fried but they are crispy on the outside and wayyy better than any shitty oven or grilled wings

wouldn't a normal power strip cut off before it blows your fuse
I even remember having one that had a couple knobs with it's own fuses in side

Are there still devices that aren't 110-230V? I thought we moved way past it.

Got the Air Fryer Pro and like it a lot.
It does basically anything an oven can do assuming it can fit.
You do have to do some things like cover bread with a piece of tin foil to prevent the top from getting burnt when the heating element turns on.
I use it a lot because it's really convenient.

>>21656599
pretty sure air fryers should not be plugged in power strips at least not the usual residential ones. but that got me thinking.
>>
>>21653719
>expensive but totally worth it.

No it isn't, I got pic related at Meijers for like $60 five or six years ago and it the same thing as your overpriced $350 toaster oven.
>>
>>21653703
Cosori. I ignored them at first because I thought it was just a random Chinese brand, but they actually make the best air fryers.

I threw my two month old Smart Oven in the trash after taking it apart to kill the beep that was waking up the entire house every time I used it and I couldn't get the piece of shit back together because it's built to the absolute lowest possible quality level possible.

A bitch to clean but works very well.

>toaster oven
The golden age of toaster ovens are over. They used to be simple, silent and indestructible. Now they they are noisy POS that beep and whirl and click.

Your only option is to go to a thrift store to find this GOAT.

this, steel's better than non stick plastic crap
plus you can buy more sheets to put in them easy

Less thermal mass so heats up way faster. You dummy even need to spend $300. Just get a convection toaster oven that will fit a pizza and you’re set. Won’t have to bother with a air fryer
>>
>>21658398
That doesn’t have convection
>>
>>21659474
or just go to walmart or renys, they still sell simple models
>>
>>21659822
so?
>>
the instantpot brand air fryer seems like the consensus pick. best performance and cooking capacity that isn't a 400$ monstrosity like the typhur.

Just how fat are you?

Man, an air fryer is by far the best way to heat leftover/frozen pizza
