Probably California just because it has multiple mega-cities and produces the most agriculture, and it's tall and skinny so has access to multiple biomes.

MA has the Chow Mein sandwich.
>The chow mein sandwich typically consists of a brown gravy-based chow mein mixture placed between halves of a hamburger-style bun, and is popular on Chinese-American restaurant menus throughout southeastern Massachusetts and parts of neighboring Rhode Island.[1] Originating in Fall River, Massachusetts, in the 1930s or 1940s,[2][3][4][5] the sandwich is not well known outside of a relatively small area of New England.

You're not going to believe it, but Fargo North Dakota is the best food city in America. I didn't know it until I went there, and then the fact that my mom met Anthony Bourdain at a Starbucks there sort of clicked, that's what he was doing there, eating in a city he wouldn't tell you about on the TV. You want to pick a city where it gets so cold that the restaurants would have to serve you at least a thousand calories on a heaping plate, and realistically a good place that would give the same big rations year round. Even my favorite Mexican food restaurant in the U.S. has been in Fargo and I'm a Mexican from the Southwest. This no-skimping on food in Fargo isn't just a thing you run into at local restaurants either, I worked at more than one Dairy Queen and was told what ration of flavorings to limit it to and there were black chicks working at the Dairy Queen in Fargo who added enough flavoring to my MooLatte that it would have qualified as soul food. Only drawback is you really shouldn't eat the seafood in Fargo and need to remember that

You would be surprised, Arizona is a place with a lot of independent restaurants that you wouldn't see franchised all over the place and they're pretty unilaterally amazing, and it's in between Texas and L.A. and right by Vegas the buffet capital of the world. I'm not the guy who posted that it's a sleeper but that seems like a good way of describing their vibrant food culture that you don't really see them trying to spread everywhere
>>
>>21661465
Mexico has states. Sonora, Baja, Mexico City and Jalisco all easily would fall into the top 10 if you took all the states of all the countries in North America.
>>
>>21665550
Arizona gets the Sonoran bleedover too (figuratively and a bit literally)
that being said buffet culture is fat people shit and unlike California and Sonora it's not exactly got any good seafood hubs.
It's surrounded by original but it is itself just empty and soulless. Even Utah's weird soda fountain shit is more original than anything in Phoenix or Flagstaff.
You are good at unhinged centrist Republicans McCain and Goldwater are my favorite loser presidential candidates

>>
>>21665616
Buffets are for fat people? You're blowing my mind right now. Obviously that detail was meant to point out how easily that region can get good food on a very active freeway. You seem bitter about Arizona, I'm sure there is a nice soda fountain or something in Utah, it is a nice place but its restaurants are very average in quality compared to the valley of the sun area in Arizona. I'm sure you think you can get better food in Sonora though so I will let you have your opinion
>>
>>21661142
New York, California, Texas, Chicago, Florida in that order. Generally the more ethically diverse (real diversity, different nationalities, not just blacks) a place is, the higher quality and varied the cuisine will be. These states are home to the cities with the most diverse populations in the US and it's apparent from the quality, availability, and variety of food. Other states have great monoculture cuisine, but struggle to put out top tier food outside of that single culture.

Basically the eastern half of the country, with the cutoff point being the Colorado border more or less. Everything in Colorado and to the west is trash tier food outside of super high end restaurants (I.e. there is good food in Las Vegas and LA but it's not the norm).

Average hole in the wall place in Missouri, Pennsylvania, or even Vermont will blow a similar place in Colorado or California out of the water. Western USA has the shittiest food with the exception of New Mexico
>>
>>21665860
Ah that's horseshit, Denver chili on its own is a whole class of dishes, and that doesn't even begin to cover Vietnamese and authentic Mexican
Nebraska has steaks, New Mexico has New Mexican
Wyoming I can't make any excuses for
Montana is full of rich people and they want good food
Nevada, again, has Las Vegas, which is easily the best culinary city in the country
Washington and Oregon are Chinese food all-stars
You're basically saying states without fried chicken sold at gas stations is bad
Gas station chicken can be pretty good, not gonna lie, but you're still using gas station chicken as a yardstick

This dude is kinda right, I moved from MN to Missouri and its a literal shithole. Th Somalis will get MN there in no time tho. Basically and hearty American food that's gonna be great is from minnesota to parts of western new york and Pennsylvania. Anything south of Ohio state line is not in the Midwest golden belt.
>>
>>21661179
>Probably California just because it has multiple mega-cities and produces the most agriculture

This is such a cope, and deliberate misinformation. When people refer to California "agriculture" they're talking about wine, almonds, various fruits and some vegetables. That's it. They aren't talking about beef, or pork, or chickens, or wheat or grains. They aren't talking about milk or dairy.

But yes, this is why fruit salads and organic vegetarian dishes came to prominence first in California instead of say, Texas.

>>21665869
>>21665878
>>21665898
Denver Chili? Foreign food? Outside of Las Vegas and the super high end restaurants in say LA or San Francisco, there really isn't great food out west. The west coast itself isn't extremely horrible, at least not nearly as bad as what you see in Colorado and Mountain States.

The problem, in general, with food out west of the great plains, is that there really isn't much agriculture out there, and all the food has to be shipped from Midwestern farms hundreds of miles away. Californians don't know what fresh corn tastes like, for example. People in Colorado have never eaten a chicken that wasn't raised hundreds of miles away. It is primarily the lack of the availability of fresh foods that makes western food bland.

Yes, in some more rural parts of the Pacific Northwest and California, you can find good farm to table restaurants with high quality, fresh food offerings.

>>21665898
>I moved from MN to Missouri and its a literal shithole.

Kansas City has some of the best barbecue and beef in the world. Not to mention a plethora of delicious farm to table restaurants with all organic meat and vegetables grown at farms within a 30 mile radius of the city. If I had to guess I would say you likely moved to the St. Louis region, and you're basing your opinion off of STL staples like IMO's pizza (shitty but doesn't even cut itself) or toasted raviolis.
>>

>>
>>21661142
>>21665918
In summation, food out west, particularly in mountain states and desert states (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana) is usually really bad because it all has to be trucked in from hundreds and hundreds of miles away and it's not fresh. The best food in Colorado is basically considered to be slop in much of the Midwest, south, and eastern seaboard. An Anon in here tried to bring up Chili...that's literally slop.

>>21665922
>have you never heard of a farmers market?

Yeah, most farmers markets suck dick. The biggest one in my city has a few rural farmers bringing in stuff to sell at high prices, but most of the vendors are just selling fruits and vegetables that the main grocery chains rejected. You can get like 6 tomatoes for a dollar but they'll be squishy and weird

Yeah but NYC is comparable to most US states in terms of population and economy. As for Cali Mexican food... It's definitely good but not nearly as good as Californians like to claim. "Top tier" calimex is just regular Mexican food in Texas and the rest of the southwest. California shines for the same reason New York and Texas do - large population centers of foreigners. There's an abundance of authentic, quality cuisines from around the world. California acting like they're the only state with """authentic""" Mexican food is really just kind of pathetic. Like, who do they think cooks the Mexican food in the rest of the US? Vietnamese people? Lmao

>They aren't talking about milk or dairy
Dairy cows get some of the most prime real estate in the State, coastal NorCal is full of them. It’s been a current bit of drama out in Marin actually, the state is trying to take that land from farmers who’ve owned it for 100+ years. I can think of five small batch craft cheesemakers within 50 miles of me.
>wheat or grains
Cheap bulk product doesn’t really matter for “cuisine”- you can just import it dried so why grow it locally? The fresh and interesting stuff is what makes for cuisine. And California has excellent climates for fresh and interesting stuff. Besides there are plenty of hippies with their vanity businesses growing ancient grains and niche corn and shit like that lol
>beef or pork or chickens
We have a few retarded laws about meat actually, under the guise of “animal welfare” that essentially means a lot of it HAS to be domestically produces. Also, seafood is huge all up the coast.

This state has a lot of problems but the food is at least high tier. I’d argue anyone can find something they’ll love. Cheap greasy burgers up to 3* Michelin meals

The reviews are like 1 out of 5. Like, wtf. Sloppa from NYC and it's greasy flavor, NM can't hold a candle
>>
Texas has the best food IMO. The BBQ alone would put it into the top tier but the mexican food puts it into a category of its own.

If by chow you mean simple comfort food, probably the SW/Texas for Mexican. New Orleans for creole stuff. California sucks for outright decent wholesome food that tastes good. It’s either pretentious stuff that, albeit is amazing flavor wise, isn’t worth the cost of admission unless money is no object and its basic peasant stuff is horrible. NY City on the other hand is pretty good.
