Is kefir actually any good or is it pure hype from health gurus?
>>
>>21662702
just drink milk or yougurt if you're not lactose intolerant
>>
>>21662702
its just drinkable yogurt
>>
>>21662725
Isn't yogurt already drinkable?
>>
>>21662702
I tried it and really couldn't tell any difference. I just farted more.
>>
Just put some plain yogurt and whole milk in a blender and make your own.

Your danking of gogurt

>kefir contains 15‑30 bacterial strains plus several yeasts, far more diverse than yogurt’s 2‑5 strains
>key bacteria: L. kefiranofaciens, L. kefiri, L. acidophilus, L. casei, Bifidobacterium spp.; yeasts: S. cerevisiae, K. marxianus
>this diversity produces a wider array of metabolites: short‑chain fatty acids, bacteriocins, B‑vitamins, and kefiran (unique EPS)
>kefiran acts as an anti‑inflammatory agent, reducing IL‑6 and TNF‑α in cellular models
>yeasts hydrolyze lactose, leaving <1g per serving, improving tolerance for lactose‑intolerant individuals
>probiotic survivability: 30‑70% of kefir microbes survive gastric acidity versus much lower rates for yogurt cultures
>surviving microbes colonize the colon, enhancing microbial diversity and competitive exclusion of pathogens
>kefir fermentation generates galactooligosaccharides (GOS) and high‑level kefiran, both pre‑biotic substrates for Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli
>GOS and kefiran selectively feed beneficial bacteria, boosting short‑chain fatty acid production and gut barrier integrity
>bacteriocins and yeast metabolites inhibit Salmonella, E.coli O157:H7, and H.pylori in vitro, providing antimicrobial protection
>increased secretory IgA observed after 2 weeks of daily kefir, indicating enhanced mucosal immunity
>overall, kefir’s rich culture mix and abundant pre‑biotic fibers deliver stronger probiotic, anti‑inflammatory, metabolic, and immune benefits than standard yogurt.

TL;DR: It is typically more probiotic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial than yogurt. It also has advantages for lactose-intolerant individuals, with higher microbial survivability through stomach acid, and provides stronger prebiotic support.

I make my own kefir, it's pretty good

A lot of people say you need fiber in your diet, I think that you basically get the same benefits of fiber by drinking kefir, it is potent in its ability to soften stool, I had hemorrhoids from lifting heavy boxes full of books but due to my kefir habit they barely bothered me and healed quick

Otherwise anecdotally I do feel better when I drink my kefir regularly than skip some days, but the benefits are very subtle and they will disappear when you take a break from kefir

I make my kefir with whole milk and then strain and blend with fruit, acidity pairs well with fruit flavors so it becomes 10x more palatable. It tastes very good if you strain it off at the sight of the first whey bubble and blend with frozen fruit, like a frozen yogurt smoothie, even warm it tastes fucking good because the carbonation creates a creamy texture

Kefir digests about 1/3 of the lactose

I drink upwards of about a liter, you could use it as a meal replacement, with whole milk it is pretty filling and you're hitting a lot of different nutrients

I personally think it can blunt sugar and alcohol addiction, I feel less cravings for unhealthy foods when on kefir

I think if you incorporate it into your diet you'll notice benefits within 3 months

As this anon said, soyence says it's at least an order of magnitude more potent than yogurt, some faggots get Hexheimer syndrome because it causes a die-off of bad bacteria supposedly, I never had digestive issues with kefir given I'm Northern European and can already drink a gallon of milk without issue
>>
I have ulcerative colitis, the difference kefir makes for my stomach is astounding. Any time I have a bad bowel movement I drink kefir and it's pretty much back to normal the next day.
I drink a litre a week with protein powder + some whole milk to thin it out as it's a good source of protein too.

But I am lactose intolerant
>>
>>21662702
Kefir is extremely healthy. Look up kefiran and the peptides created when kefir grains ferment milk. There are studies on how they are beneficial or potentially beneficial.
>>
So, if I buy a bottle of kefir, and dump it into like an 80% filled gallon of milk, would it turn the whole thing into kefir if I leave it out for a day?
>>
>>21663400
No storebought kefir is not real kefir. You need kefir grains. Ideally you would only ferment what you drink in the 24-48 hours it takes your kefir to ferment, so you can keep your grains healthy and well fed.
>>
>>21663320
I ferment my kefir until it completely separates and then drink it warm. A dinner without a glass of really sour kefir feels incomplete.
>>
>>21663375
Kefir alone might be slightly more tolerable than an equivalent volume of milk, but it isn't really lactose-free

Just realize kefir is like sourdough, a living culture that you have to keep alive, luckily it ferments at room temperature and can be put in the fridge and freezer quite readily
>>
>>21662702
It's basically buttermilk.
>>
>>21663250
great way to gas yourself up
>>
>>21663320
>hemorrhoids from lifting heavy
How does this happen? Improper bracing while lifting? Weak kegel muscles?
>>
>>21663568
sounds like you're lactose intolerant
if you can't chug a half gallon of milk with zero side effects (besides a full stomach) then you're not lactose tolerant
>>
>>21663595
Yeah, when I drink a quart of milk in one go, my stomach gurgles a little bit but I don't have continued gastric issues, the enzymes kick in
>>
>>21663595
>plain yogurt and whole milk in a blender
>sounds like you're lactose intolerant
The yoghurt will ferment the milk in your gut, dumpass. I've drank way more milk than you, careful who you call lactose intolerant.

>she gets full off half a gallon of milk
lmao
>>
>>21662702
from what I gather, probiotics is a meme (eating the bacteria itself) but pre biotics is a dream (eating food that the biotics in your gut can eat)
>>
>>21663646
It depends is the correct answer.
>>
>>21662702
i drank it for taste way before it became a meme
>>
>>21663576
some people simply have a very high resting bowel pressure / blood pressure. it's mostly genetics and some lifestyle. I got hemorrhoids once from using nicotine because of the increase in blood pressure.
>>
Lots of fags think kefir is icky, so it is a "meme"

It's fermented milk and people get weird about it even if they eat yogurt, fucking children I tell you

>>21663646
Your gut bacteria eat the dead bacteria and its byproducts of fermentation
