Is grocery delivery as good as it sounds? I brushed it off before assuming it was a ripoff like food delivery, but looking into it it'd come down to <$10 per week where I live, feel like you'd easily save that in impulsive purchases. Plus time and gas saved, not having to deal with shit like locked up or hidden items in the store, less risk of missing something on your list. Like I guess sometimes it's nice to be able to browse and it'd be annoying not getting to pick your own produce, but I feel there's got to be some bigger catch that I'm missing
I would never do it with fresh food and since we don't eat much else, we've only used grocery delivery once and only because there were a pair of deals that were only available on delivery orders and a third deal that made delivery free. That was a few months ago. But! It was extremely quick. Placed the order and it was brought to our place free of charge in about a half hour.
>>21664808It's fine if you eat processed boxed shit that won't differ from item to item but if you eat a lot of things made from fresh ingredients, then do you really want a minimum wage worker picking out the better fruits, veggies, and meats? For example, some potato dishes want closely-sized potatoes, or if you're making stuffed bell peppers you're going to want properly and uniformly shaped ones.A different issue I ran into when I tried it is that places will let you make the purchase and reserve your time slot, but obviously they won't be picking out the items until it's time for delivery, so if something integral to your recipe ends up being sold out then you're shit out of luck. They'll take it off your bill, but if you're planning a salmon dish and they're out of salmon then sucks to be you. If you're in the store then you can browse your options and swap items in your cart on the fly. In the end I'd rather just pick shit out myself.

>>21664808Agree with you and the other anons that it’s not ideal for produce and fresh meat. Ordered a lot of groceries delivered during Covid from instacart and Amazon fresh, but I stopped with Instacart after the person delivered my food to the wrong address and Instacart wouldn’t do anything about it.
every single thing i can get delivered i do. why waste time in a car and grocery store when i can pay a wagie to do it for 10-15 dollars and stay home and shitpost on 4chan?
>>21664808I don't do it, I've got two within walking distance. But my dad does and if they don't have something they'll just substitute it with something pretty random. I wouldn't want that chance.
my store has this like drive-thru area around the side of the store where you park your car in a bay and they wheel out your groceries pre-picked in a crate, you just put your groceries in the trunk of your car from the crate and drive off.it's also completely free if you arrive during off-peak hours or when they aren't busy,
>>21664808Yeah, it's not too expensive when you consider having to pay for gas. You get what you want and they deliver straight to your door.
>>21664808If you're getting delivery straight from your local butcher at cutting room floor prices then it's great. Otherwise it's almost as much of a scam as Doordash/Grubhub/Ubereats
I got sent an ad for insta cart so i got me puff pastry wanted and saved $200 and i immediately canceled the serviceBut for every person like me 10 people exist
>>21665839I've had substitutes that are superior to what I ordered, but I've also had substitutes that were nothing to do with what I ordered. It's a gamble
>>21665950Surely not just puff pastry, holy moly. That's a lot of dough
>>21664808where I live the delivery cost is negligible at best and the amount of time saved is crazy compared to going to the store and then hauling that shit back home yourselfThe online prices aren't even higher than in-store prices, in some cases they're even lower. Sure you're only saving like 2 cents per egg by buying online but it adds up eventually.
>>21664808><$10 per week where I live, feel like you'd easily save that in impulsive purchasesyeah that's the main value proposition of grocery delivery. It prevents impulse buys. If you can plan out all of your meals for a week, and order enough food so you don't need to do other orders, it absolutely pays for itself. I'm the kind of person who will go to the grocery store planning to get $20 or $30 worth of stuff, a handful of items, and end up spending over $100. Grocery delivery would save me a lot. The only reason I don't use it is because I have nothing go on in my life and I genuinely enjoy getting in my car, driving to the grocery store, perusing the items, and buying new things. If you hate driving or there's a lot of traffic and annoying people at your local grocery store then yeah it's worth 10 bucks
>>21664808>gas savedIf somebody else is driving, than no, no "gas saved".
>>21665970I bought 20 kgsSorry im not so good with English
I never order because I hate randoms coming to the house and I kind of enjoy grocery shopping, as long as I'm there when the store opens and out in less than 30 minutes. Our family subscribed to a service back in the early 2000s when my parents were busy and I can see it being useful if you have a large family and buy a lot at once.>>21666023This is like the Hello Fresh meals my parents started buying. They claim to be more eco-friendly and then I open one and see stuff like 3 cilantro sprigs sealed in their own plastic container.
These only make sense for old people that have a hard time shopping, people that don't have cars or turbo NEETs
Nah I like to browse, buy stuff I haven't tried, hit on the cashier grills and see alcoholics get tossed out
>>21664808I don't want someone else picking out my produce. Sometimes I find the only good head of broccoli in the whole produce section. I've done the delivery thing and was always disappointed with their choices and substitutions.
I ordered it a few times because of discount promos and the quality of the vegetables was better than in the average super market. But I guess that depends on the supply chain of whatever service you are using.I wouldn't pay extra for delivery since I have like 5 stores directly on my commute
>>21666108the reason there's only one good head of broccoli in the produce section is because the produce doesn't sell fast enough so the grocer doesn't have to restock as oftenwith a big central storage where all the online orders are sent from the quality is actually far higher than if you were to buy from your local store unless you're a hipster and buy from the smallest available online grocery store
>>21666225I wish walmart would start this shitI have two equally close but they are not stocked the same, it's not a lot of stuff, but enough to realize, I need to change the store to get this or thatsubstitutions and produce aren't as bad as it is for some, maybe, usually fine for meit seems life gets harder and harder lately for manynot having to shop in store and get it delivered is one of the few things that make it seem like there is still a chance that we'll pull throughand sometimes if tyrone or shaquonda is delivering, they leave stuff that I didn't order or pay for
>>21665899>Otherwise it's almost as much of a scam as Doordash/Grubhub/UbereatsWhat's the scammy part though? Doordash the scam is that you're buying shit you don't need at a big markup, groceries are something you need at a small markup
it was good when they didn't care about staying solvent but now that they have to make money in a retarded unprofitable market, the fees are absurdalso they instruct the shoppers to pick out the shittiest choices every time
>>21664831>some potato dishes want closely-sized potatoesfalse and retarded unless youre working at michelin star restaurant
>>21666530>o they instruct the shoppers to pick out the shittiest choices every timeDo you think the wage slave would rather help the bosses bottom dollar or screw over the customerIf it were me I would do better by thecustomer and curse the manager while smiling
it's a pretty good deal if you don't mind the fact that at least one item out of your order will be out of stock and it will be the one that you chose that specific store over all the other stores forif you're literally no-income then it might be worth $10 to you to spend an hour at the store fiddling with baskets and bar codes and waiting in line for the butcher but for normies? it's a no-brainer
>>21666536If you're cooking the potatoes whole or mostly whole as part of the preparation then yes, you do need them similar sizes. Fondant potatoes and twice-baked are two that immediately come to mind. If one potato is twice as big as the other then it won't cook at the same time. That's a free cooking tip from me to you.
>>21667134>then it won't cook at the same timeholy autism yeah like that fucking matters just cut it in half if it's too big
>>21667142>just cut them in halfOr just buy the right-sized potatoes in the first place instead of being a retard. You are not good at cooking.
>>21667152i am function maximalist form doesnt concern me much >right-sized potatoesi don't even know what that means but considering the fact that mutts paint their eggs i suppose it's a thing over on the new continent
>>21667156Form matters in dishes beyond your current cooking level. But you need to learn to crawl before you can walk. Once the basics come naturally to you, more complex dishes become possible. I genuinely hope you get there one day, but running from progress isn't helping you.
>>21667156he must be talking about baking whole potatos or he is retarded
>>21664808Do you really want some spicjeetnig handling your produce?
>>21667204I mentioned two dishes in the previous post where "just cutting it in half" like a retard to adjust the cooking time won't work at all, anon. Look up.
>>21667225who do you think picks it from the soil?
>>21664808>locked up or hidden items in the storeAt the grocery store?
>>21664808what lol, nothing is locked up at my local store
>>21667134do you spergs think restaurants get their potatoes like this?
>>21667142This lol.
>>21667225You must grow all of your own food yourself, right?
I doordash an Aldi order at least twice a month
>>21667134are you... buying potatoes a la carte?
>>21667134which is why potatoes are famously sold in an opaque sack
>>21666024Thanks for admitting it ESLtard, but if you aren't good with english, why not try google translate or something instead of just belting out incomprehensible slop with apparent full confidence? My French isn't very good but if I went to a French language website, I would check my work before posting.
>>21664808Issue with delivery is they only deliver during work hours when you're not fucking home. And if you have a wife or gf at home to collect it she may as well just go to the store anyway if she's sitting at home doing nothing all day.
>>21664831You cut the big potato into 4 slices, the medium potato into 2, the small potato you leave as is
>>21667597I'm buying them by the pound and picking out the ones that work well for my dish in the amount I need for my dish. I only buy a 5lb bag of potatoes if it's thanksgiving. Do you buy them with your eyes closed and just not care what you get to pick out better ones? That's utterly stupid.>>21667774When you buy from online store delivery, you are in fact buying potatoes in the equivalent of an opaque sack because you won't see the ones that a non-caring minimum wage earner picked out till it gets to your house.
>>21664808>voluntarily give up your freedom of movement, we'll have a member of our imported slave class deliver your overpriced slop in between scamming the elderly so you won't ever have to leave your pod or stop producing data for us to mine and sell
