i made a philly cheesesteak
Yeah I would fuck that up. Good job. Gotta lower the temps for the bread next time.Ever thought about using garlic bread for the bread?
I've never actually had an aw-ten-teek philadelphia-styled steak with cheese sandwich, but what you made looks superior
>>21665577the bread was a good texture. as for garlic bread, would be unnecessary as i already have a garlic clove mixed in, i'd likely just end up tasting garlic vs the meat and cheese>>21665579thank you. i haven't either, but this was very tasty
>>21665577I've had a cheesesteak using a garlic bread roll and it was fantastic.
Looks so good, I’m going to make one tomorrow
>>21665573would
>>21665573That shit isn't a philly cheesesteak dickhead
>>21666429AAAAAAY IM WALKIN HEAAA yourself into a wood chipper
>>21665573That's some crispy ass bread oh lawd
>>21666447That's not a philly cheesesteak tho dickhead, crusty ass whiteboi jawn
>>21666467>DONT DISRESPE DA CHEESESTEAAAAKfuck you and your wop whore mother how about that
>>21666472It's not a philly cheesesteak tho dickhead
>>21665573Wrong.
>>21666482Explain how
>>21666488A philly doesn't have anything on it but steak and cheese.
>>21666488no whiz
>>21665573Looks amazing
gross
>>21666490Fried onions are necessary. West philly weirdos put may and green peppers on them.>>21666492Tourist trap. Mostly it's American but provolone is best.
>>21666523*mayo and green peppers
>>21665573French Dip > philly cheesesteaks
>>21666488it just isn't okay!?
>>21666523steves prince of steaks is not a tourist trap
>>21666533>>21666488The bread is wrong, there are no mushrooms, cheese may be wrong if not provolone or whiz, steak is cut wrong, probably not a ribeye
>>21666543The bread should be a SOFT hoagie rollThere should be mushrooms if there are peppersThe cheese should be provoloneThe steak should be a ribeye thinly sliced AGAINST the grain
>>21666546Soft hoagie rolls are SHIT for hot sandwiches.
Funny. I bought cheesesteak flavoured Pringles (and a bunch of other absolute junk foods, two 12.4oz boxes of mixed-flavour Cheez-Its, a 13.7 box of Club crackers and a 13.8 oz box of Townhouse crackers, all, including the Pringles, totalling just $7 exactly) the other day for cheap. They taste more like sausage and peppers than cheesesteak, likely because everyone outside of the Philly area seems to think peppers are standard. They're not. That said, as a semi-native of Filthadelphia, I would eat your cheesesteak. : )Go Birds.
>>21666488Is it from Philly? >>21666490Wrong.
>>21666575It's not a philly cheesesteak if it comes from philly because no one calls it that here.
>>21666546>SOFTNo, it should be chewy, not soft. I've never once had a cheesesteak anywhere in the area sell then on a soft roll but I tried one in Missouri and it was on an oversized fucking hotdog bun. Fucking garbage. Philly burgers, a dying breed of sandwich, are served on kaiser rolls and it's vastly superior to any burger bun.Philadelphia doesn't do much well, but bread for slop sandwiches is one thing it does.
>>21665573looks good
>>21666582A good bacon cheeseburger on a kaiser roll with some mayo is the best
>>21666571Wrong>>21666582Not hot dog bun soft, but not crusty brrad. Should be a hoagie roll
>>21666523I don't remember there being anything on my steak but meat and cheese when I went to geno's. This was more than 20 years ago, so I could be wrong.
>>21666546for bread i used a baguette, the cheese is provolone (+ boccicini) and there are mushrooms. :)>>21666572thanks anon
>>21666748meant to also reply to>>21666543i cut against the grain but used eye of round
>>21666748>>21666750Mostly "based" then, to use the parlance of our times. I still think you cut with the grain thoughBaguette would lend itself better to a French DipNext time use a Ribeye; the extra fat content really ties the sandwich togetherEye of round is better for the roast beef in the French Dip Also, mix the cheese into the steak while it's cooking. And kind have shred the slices down into li'l bits while doing so and mix the onions mushrooms and peppers into that. Then put the bread on top of that mound and scoop it up whilw squeezing it into the sandwichIt really ties the sandwich together
>>21666773ooh mixing the cheese into the steak while it’s cooking sounds like a good idea, ill have to do that next time
>>21666623Fuckin-A.>>21666697>hoagie rollYeah. Which is chewy, not soft. But you're right: it's not crusty, either. At least not at most places. There were a few joints around South Philadelphia that did actually make hoagies on crusty, demi-baguette type rolls but I haven't seen that in ages. >>21666728That's the standard. Any modifications beyond that usually get their own name like how adding cheese to a hamburger makes it a cheeseburger. Pizzasteak, for example, adds mozzarella and tomato sauce and a cheesesteak-hoagie gets raw hoagie veg on it (LTO). Crabsteak gets fucking Old Bay on it. Horrible, but some folks fucks with it. I've got one friend who likes crab chicken cheesesteak/chicken crabsteak.I created a chili cheesesteak (hot dog chili and shredded cheddar) at a place on South Street once. Didn't catch on. I suck.>>21666748YW>>21666543>may be wrong if not provolone or whizWhiz was always for tourists. The OG, yes, is provolone, but surprisingly, the most popular cheese is American. Not at the well-known cheesesteak spots, sure, but you go to any cheesesteak place in the hood and every Lamontay and Shaqueefa will order their shit with American.I used to live at 18th and Tioga before it got ever so slightly better. It's still a miserable shithole but seeing wypipo there isn't impossible now. When I lived there, I was paying $200/month for 3 bedrooms and I was the only white guy for about a mile radius from my apartment. I was about 2 miles north of Temple in blackest AfricaAnyway, every place around me that had cheesesteaks used American by default and whiz by request. Even that place in Kensington with the 1lb of meat cheesesteaks that I think is gone now (K and Lehigh, thereabouts? I forget but I recall it being near a Save A Lot and the only one I know in that area is on Lehigh somewhere between K and Aramingo) used to only offer American and whiz but when outta-towners began moving to that area, I think they added provolone due to demand
>>21666804I only use murican cheese for burgers. And it's the only cheese I use for burgers.
>>21666804Oh and I don't consider hoagies to be chewy like a bagel is. Hoagies are soft for my non-baby teeth
>>21666810Fuckin-A again, me too. There's a local burger chain in Philly, Nifty Fifty's, that uses Velveeta slices. Also acceptable.>>21666813They're both chewy but yeah, bagels are much, much chewier.
>>21666804That's what I thought. One anon asked why OP's steak wasn't authentic. I said because in philly the steaks are just meat and cheese. Then another couple of anons chimed in that I was wrong. Maybe. Wtf do I know. I ate one like 25 years ago at Geno's and some other place I can't remember the name of. Not Pat's. It wasn't on South St. Either way, both were just steak and cheese. Shame about the chili steak. Sounds pur guh. Folks don't like new sometimes. Stuck on tradition and all that shit.
>>21665573post Philly with a timestamp to prove it
>>21666815them nifty's spicy nuggers though
>>21666531Agreed
>>21666531nah faggot. kys.
>>21666920Must've added them later. I used to go there forever ago when they had a location on Pussy Yank avenue. It's a Mexican supermarket now and that was already decades after that location closed. You know the owners got arrested for money-laundering or tax aversion or some other $$$ crime, yeah?Dunno if anything came of it.
so should the steak in a philly cheesesteak be ground or not
>>21667012No. Shredded/chopped? Kinda. Most spots in Philadelphia use sliced steak, fry it, then use two offset spatulas to chop it up on the cooktop. Buy some hotpot beef. It's often thin enough to use for cheesesteak, available nationwide at every Asian supermarket and often just fatty enough to work well for cheesesteaks. Sauteed in a pan, chop on a board (if you want) and stuff it into a roll, ezpz
>>21665573Dam anon. Looks great, I'm jealous. Hmmm I think you just gave me an idea for Fridaynight dinner.

actual philadelphian, nobody here gives a shit about what a "true" cheesteak is its a fucking sandwich. Go to ishkabibble and get one if you don't want to be a "tourist"
A solid 9/10
>>21665573did you only make a 6'' or did you make a footlongeither way good job
>>21669725>Go to the tourist place in the tourist district and get one if you don't want to be a "tourist"You're retarded.
>>21669762ishkibibble isn't a tourist place, pats / geno / jims are the typical tourist spots. Do you think I'm going to tell him to go to Kensington or Nicetown so he can get knifed to get an "authentic' experience? no because it doesn't matter because its a basic bitch sandwich and you can get a decent one anywhere in CC / west. OP's pic looks better than half the ones you can get here.
>>21669780>jimslmaoIt's practically across the street from not!ishkabibbles. You probably didn't even know that place isn't the real one. The real Ishkabibbles was on the corner of 9th and Federal, two doors down from Geno's. That place on South was opened by some chink later to take credit for Ishkabibble's creation of the chicken cheesesteak.>West Philly>for a cheesesteaklolYeah, you're definitely some transplant faggot who moved to Philadelphia last Tuesday from some M-state (it's always an M-state). Which one are you from? Michigan? Massachusetts? Mlorida?
