Finally had Kung Pao Chicken today, and it wasn’t spicy at all. What the fuck. The chicken wasn’t bad but it just smelled like peanuts and was not good overall as a full meal. But the main thing is, I’ve heard it’s super spicy and it wasn’t just not really spicy, it wasn’t even a little spicy. Is this typical or just the shitty chinese place I got it from?

99% of everything that is advertised as spicy is in fact not spicy.

but it’s usually at least a little spicy, or has a kick to it. This just tasted like salty I guess

Depends where you get it. The more "authentic" chinese version (gong bao ji ding) is usually made with a good amount of dried peppers so it can be pretty spicy, but it varies from place to place. More American/gwei lo places will obviously tone down the spice.

There's no Kung Pao Chicken certification authority. China has lots of regional varieties, along with versions adapted for western countries. The kung pao you had isn't necessarily the same as what the writers on the show were inspired by.

They obviously used their extra mild sauce for white people

This. I'd love to be tested. I'm such a Seinfeld dork I made quizzes for my friends in high school; would have been around season 7. Almost 30 years ago.

Anyone remember a really old commercial for "wagon wheels" as a snack of cheese and crackers? It may have been more of a public service announcement. Had that 70s style animation like the Tootsie Pop owl commercial. I must still have it saved on an old hard drive somewhere.
