>Mhh yes I'll take half a pound of that meat, half a pound of that meat, and half a pound of that meat
>And half a pound of those two kinds of cheeses
>Going to need to buy some pickles but can't use those cheap vlassic gherkins or they'd ruin my sub
>Next you can't cheap out on the buns so it's to the bakery for a fresh loaf
>A fresh onion
>Bag of spinach
>assume you've already got some balsamic vinegar/sauce/salt and pepper at home
>Go to cashier

That'll be 47.69 cents after tax. Next is your labor cost of gutting the bread, assembling the sandwich and slicing it for portions.

You better want another sandwich in about a week as well or half the ingredients will be wasted.

Maybe in 2010 before they jacked deli meat prices but not anymore.

Don't let THEM trick you into ever doing groceries.

Not really. If you're trying to replicate Subway you need a little bit of meat and then a bunch of soy to mix it with.

Lol, are you seriously justifying subway right now?

Go to the lunch meat aisle, lb of sliced turkey for $5 - $6, 1 fresh hoagie roll from bakery, $1 max, or get a loaf for $2. Ask for mayostard packets.

Lunch served. Cheaper and better.
>>
>>21672016
you're forgetting you need a house, car, cloths, full kitchen, shoes, bags to buy and build the sub...you're looking at close to $1mil for a few subs, vs subway (tm) great value everyday

uhhhh but bro, you're assuming that I just have SALT and PEPPER lying around at home. do you think I'm some kind of gourmet chef? I have to pay $150 for 50lbs of Himalayan salt, and $75 for 2kg of the finest fresh peppercorns, plus $2000 for a prestige Peugot pepper mill to grind it with, I mean I don't just have this stuff lying around at home. and I'm only going to make like ONE sandwich every 6 months, so what am I gonna do with all that the rest of the year?
>>
>>21672037

You'll get about 1/5th of that on a subway sub.

So you only buy one piece of meat for your sandwiches?
>>
>>21672100
You buy a package and make five sandwiches. Deli meats keep in the fridge for like a month at the very least.
>>
>>21672100
you make multiple sandwiches retard. normal people are not eating completely different things for every meal every single day of the month. of course you're going to be spending tons of money if you do that. to be economical, you have to get into some sort of routine, where you might eat a sandwich for lunch several days a week. is this your first day living on earth or something?
>>
>>21672016
only firehouse subs or ones from your local deli matter.
subway is the mcdonald's of sub sandwiches (not real sub sandwiches).

Make your own bread, make your own mayonnaise or butter, make your own sub oil. Buy some deli meat, cheese, and veg. It will taste better and be cheaper, but you need to bite the bullet and not be a lazy fucking piece of shit cooklet and actually learn to produce these things yourself instead of overpaying for mediocre versions of them.
>but but but what if I don't want to put in the time or effort????????
Then you deserve to pay more for worse food and I'm happy you're eating shit.
>>
>Not only is Subway still in business they're somehow one of the largest fast food chains in the world and the largest in the US by the number of locations

Not for long. A decade of losses and hopefully more to come.
>>
Subway is the most buck for the money of all fast food places, I order a 30cm subway melt and ask for double meat, that like 3dollars extra. If you do that you get a sub PACKED with meat for like 11 bucks.
>>
>>21672016
I make my own deli meats, you giant sack of shit
>>
>>21672239
The meat you're getting isn't proper meat, and the bread it's sandwiched between isn't proper bread. Subway is vile, putrid. Have more respect for yourself, jesus fucking christ.
>>
>>21672248
I live in Europe anon, they are required by law to have proper meat.

>>
>>21672252
Laws don’t prevent things from happening (e.g. using crap meat), they just provide a punishment mechanism for violations.

So yes, even euro subway is inedible garbage.
>>
>>21672239
>Subway is the most buck for the money of all fast food places
Chipotle beats it and it's not even close
>>
>>21672252
They're not required by law to not be the lowest of the low possible, and that's what you shove down your throat to save a buck. But I'm sure that Subway Europe's deli meat is actually artisan-crafted prime grade locally sourced and not bottom-of-the-barrel slop between cake slices. Oh wait, that's that's exactly what it is and that's why it's so cheap.

A footlong for $7.50 would still be a compelling deal, but they'd rather burn than decrease their inflated profit margins.
>>
>>21672265
I’ve never understood why they don’t do the bare minimum to make their chicken look better. Just a little food-grade paint to brown it up is all it would take.

Chipotle used to be S tier back in the day but now its just okay. Between their price hikes and how skimpy they have got on portions I only get it about twice a month now inbetween groceries hauls and meals. Feels good not to be a cooklet.

At worst the thing that would go bad the quickest is lettuce. Every other topping, condiment and meat would be pretty shelf stable for a week or two if kept in the fridge.
>inb4 wb bread
You know not many people do it for freshness reasons but I someones freeze fresh baked loaves in case I get to a sandwich heavy week.

You suck at saving money, OP. At least go for one type of cold cut. At the very least some poultry because red meat will never ever be cheap.
>>
>>21672016
>That'll be 47.69 cents after tax.
Pfft.
You should have all you want at home when you hit up a farmer's market for produce, and add some nice deli shop cuts.

Or just go to Publix or any mom n pop italian restaurant. If they have good antipasti salads, they'll do a nice sub too.
>>
>>21672016
1. You can make multiple subs.
2. Save the ingredients you don't want to use for some other dish.
3. Bake your own bread.
4. You can make it taste a lot better if you do it yourself.

Puhleese.
This past spring in honor of Mardi Gras, I made a round sub that easily fed 6 people from a single trip to Publix. I bought a single jar of Central Grocery branded olive giardinera, another jar of grilled red peppers, used like 1/4th of the jars to totally saturate the bottom and top of a large sesame round boule, and filled my sandwich with simple boar's head mortadella, genoa, and tavern ham. Store brand smoke provo and swiss.

The jar was oversized and $8, but certainly had that much in just olive content.

What low grade, about to expire, pumped with water deli meats are you buying that they go bad in a week? Or is this just some arbitrary timeline you assign to all your meats. If you keep them dry and in airtight containers delimeat keeps extraordinarily well.
>>
>>21672016
You can't even buy ingredients of as low quality as Subway uses in 2025 at the store. It has to be the absolute bottom tier bulk produced garbage where the "chicken" is 80% soy filler and the "beef" is 80% water. Subway is literally too shitty to make at home.
>>
>>21672702
Not everything Publix/etc cuts for you is fresh out of the plastic, I would not trust any of that for more than 2 weeks
