Trying to lose weight but can not for the life of me figure out what to eat. I fucking hate chicken since I ate nothing but chicken for months and made myself sick of it, so if you know a way to make it taste good I'm all ears. But if anyone can give me some good, healthy recipes, I would appreciate it. At this point I'm just considering eating bland chicken over lettuce for dinner and some cheese and nuts for lunch. Maybe a protein shake for breakfast if anything. I genuinely have no clue and could use some help.
>>
cheese and nuts are like 90% fat
>>

Just eat minimally processed foods that you've cooked yourself and try to get decent variety. Interpreting your cravings correctly. For example if you have a craving for french fries, you can interpret that as your body telling you it wants starch and salt. You can satisfy it with some cured meat on bread instead.

Also, watch the amount of food you eat. I only eat two meals a day because I'm an alcoholic and I'm in great shape.
>>
>>21676735
eat whatever you want, you just have to keep up a calorie deficit. just avoid sugar as it won't keep you full and make you feel like garbage when you're trying to keep up the deficit.

people will recommend foods like veggies, chicken and greek yoghurt because you can eat a large quantity of it without going over your calorie budget but really you can eat whatever you want as long as you stay disciplined about counting calories.

t. used to be obese and lost half my bodyweight within a year
>>
Grilled lean meats (chicken breast, steak, whitefish or salmon) with herbs, seasoning, no added oils

Roast or boiled vegetables (carrots, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower) with little to no added oil

Salad with simple vinagrette (olive oil, vibegar, herbs, a bit of mustard), no thick and creamy or overly sweet dressings. No fatty cheese or croutons added.
>>
Eat whatever you want but in small quantities. The period of my life when I was the thinnest I was just eating omelets, potato chips, milk chocolate and coffee.
>>
>>21676738
Okay I'll avoid those then.
>>
>>21676764
How the fuck do you eat at a deficit? It doesn't seem possible. Obviously it is because people do it but I just don't get how.
>>
>>21676765
I prefer raw vegetables. Cooked veggies are gross to me but I like regular ones. Any advice on how to properly season meats? I suck at that.
>>
>>21676769
Small quantities are hard for me. I have decent self control most of the time but if it's in the house, sometimes my body goes on autopilot even though I know I shouldn't be doing it. It's hard.
>>
>>21676779
Salt and pepper only before you apply that side to the heat for best results. But honestly just use a coarse salt and spring for raw peppercorns to grind (or one of those disposable grinders they overcharge you for at the spice aisle). The freshness of pepper really is a game changer
>>
>>21676735
When restricting calories, I am usually ravenous. There are drugs that help for that now, but my little bouts of weight loss were all the same formula.

Brain needs a few minutes to know you are full, so a full glass of water or a frozen coffee in the morning. Get the watery icy drink down. Decaf iced tea works too. Omelet with either mushrooms or spinach. Minimal sharp cheese for flavor. low salt V8, lime

cup of soup or green salad first course for dinner and lunch both. Time it to let the brain signal you're full with a sensitive portion for the rest of the meal.

Late night starvation cravings, have an ice cold chocolate Fairlife. Very low sugar, and satisfying high protein. Or a Premier protein "night" version of hot chocolate.
>>
>>21676776
Eat less
>>
>>21676785
>There are drugs that help for that now
I refuse to take that stuff. For all we know it'll give people stomach cancer in 10 years.
>a full glass of water or a frozen coffee in the morning
I heard it's better to eat in the morning to get your stomach active and digesting. Is that bullshit? Also I don't eat omelets. I've always hated the taste of eggs. I do like potatoes though.
>Late night starvation cravings, have an ice cold chocolate Fairlife.
I fucking love those. The calories are like 170-190. Is that too high?
>>
Look up various pastas and salads and try each one.
>>
>>21676776
it's easier if you only eat one meal a day.
the average adult male who does no exercise needs to eat about 2100 calories per day, your goal is to stay below that, how much is up to you. if you're very overweight you can go very low, there were days where I ate less than 1000 calories but I would not really recommend that unless you're doing no physical activity whatsoever, it will affect you alot. 1500 or so will let you lose weight a decent pace.

buying and preparing your own ingredients lets you keep track of the calories better, a kitchen scale also helps.

as you get used to counting calories you will learn to estimate without having to grab a calculator or whatever. for example 100g of most types of bread is on average 250 calories
>>
eat more protein and fibre
eat less carbs and fat
>>21676765
basically this
>>
>>21676788
I've gotten better about that. I eat next to no sugar anymore, which is pretty easy for me.
>>
>>21676800
I'm sticking to a pretty low calorie count most days. I tend to eat out Friday nights and sometimes Saturdays but during the week I'm very strict. I'd honestly say probably around 500 calories a day. Maybe a little higher.
>>
Whole foods, but start from the ground up and gradually escalate to see how fast your system metabolizes what you eat. For example, start with a few fruits or steamed vegetables. Only a few to see how long before you're hungry.

If I'm having a lazy day and not doing shit, then I just have a couple pears, an apple, a bit of pineapple, and a little bit of milk. Takes about four - five hours to digest.
>>
>>21676794
>Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
This is somewhat of a myth, if anything longer periods of fasting is better on your body I myself only eat lunch and dinner and am able to easily put on and take off weight with minor diet changes. Mainly focus on CICO. If you're trying to lose weight just do the stairmaster at the gym its super fat burning and low impact.
>>
>>21676782
Losing weight is about stopping the eat autopilot and putting exercising on autopilot.
Force yourself not to eat without thinking about it first; force yourself not to think about it first and just go exercise.
It is hard.
>>
>>21676779
Depends on the meat. Like the other anon said fresh cracked black pepper, not preground. A basic spice mix for something like chicken can be
>garlic powder
>onion powder
>paprika
>dried thyme/parsley/oregano
>something earthy like coriander, nutmeg, or cumin, depending on the flavor you want
>cayenne if you want heat
But if you want herbs to be the main flavor, nothing beats fresh herbs

5'10" and 250 lbs. Used to be 240 in high school, then lost 60 pounds freshman year of college and gradually gained it all back and then some. I lost the weight because I walked everywhere and exercised every morning and also just ate a caesar salad with no dressing for lunch and some grilled chicken and some veggies or fruit for dinner. That's how I ended up getting sick of chicken. Did that for 3 months straight, went on winter break, came back to school after, and gagged tasting that chicken again the first time. Could never eat it again.

Calories in calories out. Just eat less fat boy. Start with empty calories like soda and beer. Stop eating candy. Try a salad. Drink coffee and take a fucking walk.
This shit is not rocket science, you just eat like a pig.
>>
>>21676889
Exercise is easy for me. I do it almost every day. Usually weights and some running or walking for 100-150 calories. Weekends I just take long walks in the morning to let my body heal.
>>
>>21676964
>you just eat like a pig
I really don't is the weird thing. I don't drink alcohol or soda, don't buy candy, and I like salads. But I need to switch to lettuce instead of spinach. I get so fucking sick of spinach. I love walks too.

This is barely related to what you said but are protein drinks bad? I usually drink one containing 20g of protein and 90 calories, no sugar, after a workout. I do that to just help my muscles repair but is it bad for losing weight? I would rather lose weight and muscle, then gain the muscle back over time as opposed to keeping the muscle and weight.

every time you eat something write it down, every single thing, even if it's a crumb. then get back to us.
if you can't figure it out then literally just limit yourself to like 2 hours a day where you eat and then you DO NOT EAT outside that 2-hour window. you will make your body burn fat by fasting this way.

Log literally EVERYTHING using Myfitnesspal. I guarantee your calorie assumptions are massively off and you're also drinking calories you're not accounting for like a glass of milk or orange juice which is just as calorie and sugar dense as a can of soda.
>>
Fat people truly are retarded.
>>
OP, if you're chasing a high by eating then you're most likely eating the wrong food.

Just eat natural foods and not food that's been heavily processed. You don't even have to go plant based. Just cut out ultra processed shit with more than three ingredients.
>>
>>21676967
One of the things you only become aware of after you start tracking calories meticulously is how fast calories add up. Ten months ago I weighed 230, now I'm down to 160 after tracking calories. It really surprised me how much calories my old staple foods had even though in my mind I was only eating a couple small meals per day. Now I actually eat more volume of food too, go figure.
>>
>>21677367
Or you realize what is calorie dense and what isn't. Uncooked rice on its own clocks in at about 3.65 calories per gram. Just imagine how many calories are in those "pour in a cup of rice" instruction videos.
>>
>>21676764
Ha! Yeah right... Wait til you're in your forties...
I used to be able to lose weight almost at will...
Now I could literally go on a year long hunger strike and somehow I'll end up a hundred pounds heavier...
>>
>>21676735
>Trying to lose weight but can not for the life of me figure out what to eat.
I lost weight by skipping sugar almost completely, and eating all the same foods I normally eat but keep my total daily calories as near 2000 as I can. I lost 100lbs doing this.
>>
>>21677510
If you eat food that your body takes long to digest, maybe. Eating an entire box of bran flakes can keep me full for a couple of days.
>>
>>21676735
Ditch ultra-processed junk food, incorporate more foods that are filling but low calorie like fruits and vegetables, identify what that contribute a lot to your calories (for me it's potatoes since I love them cooked in the most decadent way possible) and moderate it in particular, try different recipes and ingredients.
Tweak size and frequency of your meal.
>>
>>21676776
>>21676782
your weight and height indicates you are eating about 2600 calories a day.

cut that down to 2000 and you will lose weight. I did it.

it takes effort and will power, and constant thought. I made a spread sheet of all the foods I like with calories per gram. I weigh all my food when I eat at home. I eat 500 calories for breakfast, 500 for lunch and as close to 1000 for dinner.

I look try to eat at restaurants with calories on the menu. just realize that the calories are based on standard calories for foods, and what the ideal recipe for that item is. they can be off by 100 calories for most common foods, and off by 400 calories for fried foods.
When in doubt eat 1/3 to 1/2 a meal when no calories are listed. avoid any pasta dishes. salads at many restaurants have the same calories (in some cases) and a 16 oz prime rib.

it can be done. you just have to constantly be on top of it, and you will have to eat like this for the rest of your life. once your body gets fat it wants to stay fat and your brain will trick you every chance it can get.
>>
>>21677520
I literally, LITERALLY have eaten the same shit, same amount of calories for YEARS...
No real fluctuations weight wise.
For years... Lost some weight for our wedding, then again years of maintaining the exact same weight.
Now if I eat the same amount of calories for a week I gain one or two pounds... It's absolutely ridiculous...
>>
Go keto, you can eat basically anything if you keep the carbs to a minimum.
>>
>>21677539
Maybe your body can't handle it anymore. I'm pushing 40 myself and haven't had a problem eating oats until recently. Oats have been one of my goto grains for years. I'm still okay with rice though.

>I gain one or two pounds
this is because of 2 things water, and you need to take a giant shit. I weigh myself every day at nearly the same time and the same way. After breakfast, before lunch and just before getting in to the shower. my weight can bounce around by 2 to 4 pounds on any given day. sometimes I weight myself, one day, and the next I am 5 pounds lighter. I use a calibrated shipping scale, since most bathroom scales can be off by 30 pounds.

If you're sticking to minimally processed foods (no goyslop) then there's not much that will get you fat. You're either still eating goyslop or you're eating obscene amounts of full-fat dairy/cheese. Dairy is okay just stick to lowfat milk/yogurt and don't eat obscene amounts of cheese.

Literally just stop normalizing eating like a morbidly obese piece of garbage. You don't need two sanwiches and a large combo at the fast food place, just get one medium combo and skip the second sandwich. Don't eat an entire fucking bag of share size chips or chocolate for a snack. Don't douse everything with butter and oil, eat leaner meat.
>>
I get the feeling I wouldn't be fat if I just stopped drinking. I must be taking in over 1k calories a day just from beer.
Otherwise I mean I eat shitty food, but not often since I can't afford eating out, and stuff I cook is pretty basic-- rice, pasta, tacos which now have no meat since it's so expensive, a treat is burgers. My lazy meal is a baked potato and some light (canned) soup. And I don't eat fuckhuge portions either when I cook shit myself.
So I think the real question is how do you avoid drinking? Sometimes I find myself in the beer+wine aisle or liquor store after work without really knowing how I got there, it's like fucking autopilot. By the time I'm shaming myself for it, I've got the goods in hand and am walking towards the checkout.

It's just a means to keep fatties full while on a calorie deficit. For example, a pound of cauliflower is around 150 or 200 calories but still high in volume. Keto diets do something similar, but involve eating a shit ton of plain, uncured meat.

Eventually the stomach shrinks making this unnecessary.

my grandma used to put chicken breast in the oven and cook it until it was so hard that i could barely chew it so i have spent my life learning to cook chicken better

so basically you can dry brine it or wet brine it and once you get that through your skull you're good to go

you can dry brine a whole chicken in the fridge uncovered and the skin will get a better texture. then you can roast it in a pan. you can save the drippings and then boil the bones for soup/stock. i like to roast a couple chickens a week, use the drippings for pan sauces or adding to soup or rice or whatever, and simmer the bones for about 12 hours to make bone broth. i drink a lot of bone broth. i use the chicken meat for meal prep - chicken and rice or chicken and pasta dishes

i know a few of those huge protein low calories dishes that bodybuilders do, using fat free cottage cheese or plain greek yogurt to make sauces. some of them are actually really good but you don't really need to do all that at all

when i diet i have to use a scale to get everything down to the nitty gritty. it sucks at first but you get better at it. but i really recommend doing it over a long period of time instead of trying to rush things. like if you eat slightly better for a year, making it a constant habit of calorie counting so you don't cheat yourself, add a lot more walking, you can lose 100lbs in a year. it's better than trying to do an insane diet (like the rapid fat loss handbook by lyle mcdonald) where you're doing 100g of protein a day while staying under 700 calories, no cooking oil, keto range of carbs (under 25g a day), minimal fat, flavoring things with calorie free stuff like mustard, soy sauce and salsa and supplementing potassium, magnesium, and table salt so you don't die and taking ephedrine and black coffee so you can function. you can do that but i really recommend making longer term changes instead
>>
>>21676735
The word is "healthily" you third world American mutt
You can start by not shovelling sugar down your gullet and eating at least 60g of saturated fat and 100g of protein, that leaves you with at least 1000 kcal for whatever vegetables you can manage (I dare you to try eat more than 300 kcals of vegetables, nearly impossible) so you have minimum 700 "free" calories (assuming that you don't fill that with HFCS and soybean oil, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a "healthy" diet)
>>
>>21676776
