Yes, Homebrew thread...

Bought picrel in 2018, its been in the garage ever since.

Is the brewing extract still usable? Is the yeast still usable?

Any homebrewers out there? Inspire me to get that box out of the garage and brewing my 'own' beer.

Anyone used this kit? I hear it's a good starter kit.

That's the same kit I used. I can't tell you the extract or yeast is usable because I have no idea but I can tell you that it made some decent beer and it was a fun experience

Coopers claim to be the worlds bestseller brew extracts. They'd have to be reasonably decent.

Did you ever do grains?

Thoughts on heat blanket?

I've not had mead before. I like the idea though.

i used to brew kits, then moved up to all grain. coopers stout is better than guiness if made up with dry malt extract rather than sugar. not a fan of lager but coopers make great kits so its probably beer.
id get some new yeast but the extract should be fine.
im going to make a experimental xmas dubbel, black pepper and oven baked ham will be added to the boil, then fermenter.

>>21678868
Ham flavored beer? I’m intrigued.

Literally all the information is in the box so fuck off and read it instead being a lazy little baby boy who needs mummy and daddy to spoon feed his pants shitting ass.

The extract is basically pure sugar so it probably hasn't gone bad.
The yeast might be no good. But you can test it out by adding a little to some warm sugar water and see if it bubbles or foams up.
It's a very good kit. You just open one can, mix with warm water, and the yeast and wait a few days. It's idiot proof really.

yeah theres a few bacon beers out there, though ive not tried any before. it should be bacon but im going to use some smoked ham as theres much less fat going into the beer, which could cause some issues. the recipe im using is based off one from a good brewbook, so its probably going to be okay.

I've seen pudding flavored beers and various other 'interestingly' flavored beers. I see them more as a one or two beers thing, I can't see myself having 5 pints of a rhubarb and custard ale.

If I'm settling in for a session I'm looking for a clean beer flavor if you know what I am saying.

i dont tend to like a lot of novelty beers as there artificially flavoured and taste like it..
but some of the modern sours use actual ingredients in strange combos and there very drinkable.

yeah i know what you mean about session beers. mostly im brewing simple recipes, bitter porter and pale ales are my go to's

Your yeast will be long dead. You can pop it into some water and see if it revives itself, but you're better off grabbing a pack of liquid yeast from a brew supply. The malt extract, especially if dry, should be ok. Your hops will be oxidized and weak, but serviceable.

I had a local band ask me to "Put in" to their competition for a beer recipe.
My answer was "as long as I can keep 5gal of it." ... this gives them four pints each to make a decision.
I'm going to make them an altbier inspired red. They will enjoy it, but reject it for not being friendly enough for public consumption. I will chuckle sensibly and enjoy my half-batch of beer.

I've been here. I'm American and everything about it screamed tourist trap once we sat down.
The experience, pretzel and beer were worth the price and it was fun. Everyone should go to Hofbrau Haus!

I've always wondered about the toileting situation. Access? Distance? Queuing? Seating/table protocols ....

3000 people in a tent drinking full litre steins of beer is going to produce a lot of 'waste fluids'....

Do they use portables or do they go full Germanic Peelocaust Engineering efficiency?

Do you get them from the shop, or have your own trees or go scrumping?

What's the go with cider? Do use only apples off the ground or off the trees or both? Added yeast or natural yeastings?

Best apples for cider?

Do you know Rosie?

Malt extract will be fine as long as it's unsealed but definitely get some new yeast. I'd also get rid of the PET bottles and just get a capper and recycle some glass ones.

I currently use an all in one brew machine but IMO BIAB brewing with a propane burner and huge stock pot is peak in terms of easy, convenience and time. No hassle, easy cleanup, easy to get perfect temperature control. Switch to all grain it's way cheaper in the long-run.
