Anybody that says they don't like brussels sprouts has only ever eaten them boiled into mush, love these little fuckers
>>
>>21679652
no I have tried them every way that people recommend. they always taste nasty.
>>
back in college my room mate and I went hiking in the desert near the college exploring old mines and shit. at one point we stumbled on a pit with a rotting dead cow in it. it must have fallen in and either got hurt and died or could not get out and died.

my room mate started throwing rocks at the maggot infested carcass which smelled fucking disgusting.

I was worried we were going to get it on us as it was splattering everywhere.

Later when we got back to the campus at dinner time we go to stand in line at the cafeteria.

I start smelling that dead cow again. I'm looking all over me and my room mate to see where the smell is coming from. he can't figure it out either.

We are both sure people can smell us but play it cool.

We get up to the serving line and found the source of the smell.

steamed brussels sprouts.

in my experience vegetables have the potential to either be the ambrosia of the gods or a straight up war crime. From my time in the produce department, you NEVER want to smell a bag of rotten potatoes.
>>
>>21679718
how about a shed full of beans that got flooded for a week? (mormon food stash).
>>
>>21679725
what type of bean we talking? I've thrown away whole pallets of string bean crates because they got to the point where the slime was practically sentient by shipping arrival.
>>
>>21679729
burlap sacks full of pinto beans. the town flooded and we went there to help clean it up. luckily I didn't work on cleaning out the shed. fucking gag inducing nastiest smell.

shed was full of beans and mud.
>>
>>21679652
I've only had roasted, they're meh tier at best and it's super easy for people to fuck them up
>>
>>21679652
yeah *brap* they are great *brap*
>>

>you NEVER want to smell a bag of rotten potatoes
Rotten, flyblown, maggoty potatoes have a particular visceral smell of death and if any of the liquid leaks into your wooden pantry/shelf/drawer then you might never get the stench out.
>>
>>21679652
some people just hate all variants of cabbage
>>
>>21679731
It was pretty arid where I worked so I can only imagine how much worse the humidity made something like that.
>>21679752
You can back me up. It's got to be something about anything starchy, but the smell is straight up indistinguishable from a rotting corpse. That first 5 pound bag of reds was the only other time I'd thrown up from a smell.
>>
>>21679652
Roasted with red grapes. Is the best way to enjoy sprouts.
>>
>>21679652
trick i saw on youtubes
is to microwave first before fry/airfrying
>>
>>21679857
>You can back me up.
And I will. It's difficult to describe for those who never experienced it.

We're probably all familiar with the smell of a compost heap, which smells like literal shit, because that's what it is, food being digested by bacteria. But the rotting, maggoty potato smell is... darker? somehow, more ominous than shit, maybe just because we're used to the smell of shit. Neither is it the sickly sweet smell of slimy rotten meat. It seems to be its own thing. I wonder how much of the smell is due to the flies, because all of the potatoes I've found in this state have already been flyblown, accelerating the decomposition. But I'm not about to deliberately let potatoes rot to find out. (I wasn't kidding about the rotting potato fluid contaminating porous furniture, learned that lesson the hard way.)

I don't even mind the mush and don't understand the hate. Salt, a little butter, maybe some garlic if you're bougie, delish and nutrish, my tiny lil cabbage frens, a perfect pairing with roast beef and mash.

Is this one of those cilantro things where genetic retards, started calling themselves "supertasters" and added themselves to the gay pride flag?

they genuinely used to be awful little fart balls. The cultivar for brussels at least in the US has been sweetened beyond recognition over the last 30 years or so. Not that I'm complaining but there's a reason people used to hate them.

That's not true, some of us had to eat candied brussels sprouts as a child.

>The cultivar for brussels at least in the US has been sweetened beyond recognition over the last 30 years or so.
Fascinating if true. Do you have any links, even posts from small ag forums? This is the kind of deep lore we need, like farmers struggling to introduce lentils to the US market in the 80s simply because most people didn't know wtf they were.

>candied brussels sprouts
Details? I've had brussels sprouts in maple syrup and they were delicious.
>>
>>21679652
I am loving the popularity of brussels sprouts all crispy roasted lately. It's hit so many menus and I love them all caramelized and well done, every which way. I like them with glazes, bacon, goat cheese, blue cheese, balsamic glaze, balanced with sweet dates, oh yea, all of it!
I found out from a waitress at Cheesecake Factory that they run them through the deep fryer to crisp them before the maple butter glaze.

>I found out from a waitress at Cheesecake Factory
That's gotta be some hunger-inducing pillow talk. Did you Doordash a couple Outback Bloomin Onions before she took her Ozempic?
>>
>>21686649
No, I asked the waitress about them after enjoying the appetizer. She said that she and her son duplicated it at home, then told me they deep fry them again before tossing in a pan with the maple butter, and hitting them with bacon bits. That felt like cheating, but the outside leaves had a nice crunch.
I probably ate them a month ago, while out shopping. I've been addicted to the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake-pecan pie layered creation for a decade. It had just arrived. I also tried the new shawarma that day, though I usually get the lettuce wraps.

Some people taste the bitterness in sprouts more than others. It's genetic. However, sprouts have been bread to be less bitter over time. All cabbage loves to be charred. It brings out the sweetness and nuttiness. Blanche them first then char to get something far superior to being boiled/steamed. At Christmas I cook some onions until caramelised with mushrooms then mix sprouts with chestnuts into it. Some sour pomegranate seeds adds a bit of lift.

>Anybody that says they don't like X sprouts has only Y

This is the part of the post that instantly identify this post as a troll.

it's pure rage bait. if not then the poster is autistic and cannot comprehend that other people do not like things that they eat.

someone not liking a food is not bad. some people have better developed sense of taste and smell, and are more likely to survive in the wild as they can identify poisonous, and rotten foods.

food like brussel sprouts have little food value, and so liking them is the same as liking tree bark or sticks. good for you. no one should care if someone likes or does not like a food that they like.

my attitude is that if you don't like something I like... more for me.

never ever seen or tasted a "sweet" brussel sprout.

no dude they don't like the taste of the sprouts. bitterness isn't even at play here.
