I did not grow up eating sea food due to my mom being allergic to it, but I got the random desire to eat oysters.
Should I go to the restaurant for them? Im gonna assume the frozen ones at the super market are disgusting?

if your mom actually had a shellfish allergy, you may have one as well. i think you can get allergy tests from a doctor
regardless, i'd go to a restaurant and start with cooked oysters first

yes, if you live on the coast, look up oyster happy hours near you, they should have them for half price or a $1/2 each
Try one plain, drain the brine, loosen the meat with the fork, and shoot it. Then you can add the condiments as you choose to the rest

I agree with the allergy thing at least

these anons are absolutely incorrect. Shellfish allergies skip a generation.
I would try to find a high end steakhouse, they will ALWAYS have the best oysters both raw & cooked (oysters rockafeller)
>>
oh & look for Kumamoto oysters, by far the tastiest.

Go to a cocktail bar that serves oysters, if you hate the fresh oysters you can at least enjoy a nice drink.
>>
>blogger recommends going to a steak house for oysters.

Do the raw bar thing if youre by the coast OP.

Prepare to be underwhelmed, oysters on the half shell are novelty food. Still worth trying.

If you're in the Mid Atlantic, go to a dive bar on the Chesapeake Bay for raw oysters. They still sell them for 50 cents.
>>

Maybe on the eastern shore. I don't think you're going to find 50 cent oysters in annapolis. So what's it going to be, $2.50 oysters served by a hipster, or $0.50 oysters serve by someone who thinks black people were happier under slavery?
