There are a fair amount of kids in my neighborhood but most of the families drive them to this really rich area near me because they give out lots of full sized candy bars.
There are a lot of families on my few blocks, no one is poor here, i have no clue why they dont take their kids around trick or treating in their own neighborhood and choose to drive 20 minutes away instead. My wife was pretty disappointed the first year we moved here.

we used to get tons of trick or treaters from the neighborhood, but as those kids grew up and left a lot of people stopped doing anything and those remaining kids drove elsewhere for candy
now the only people who come around to our neighborhood are the families with kids too young to care how much candy they get so long as they get some candy
there's a few neighborhoods that have so many people coming to trick or treat the traffic around them gets absurdly bad, all the other places are completely dark
seems like the current meta is upper-middle class neighborhoods that are on postage-stamp lots to maximize candy per mile
>>
>>21691936
I see them with LV bags and Chevy pickups all the time.
so clearly, they CAN afford this stuff. the problem is white millenniala don't want to sacrifice even a penny for their children. They were psyopped into thinking that having a family "shouldn't change who you are", so they wait until they have enough money to continue their preferred lifestyle whilst also having a child. Which often means they never have a kid because most people never make that kind of money. Having kids requires sacrifice, always has. It means you can't spend thousands of dollars on streaming services or video games or fancy dinners or whatever the fuck. You exist for your kid now. Millennials hate that because they're selfish man and woman-children.
>>
>>21692398

I saw this at a local baptist church. It's so the end of anything good. Churches are supposed to be anti-halloween (even though most their parishoners participate in their own neighborhoods) as it is a pagan rite.
>>
>>21692453
Halloween has some Christian elements too, the name is in reference to Hallowtide which starts on the 1 November. I think the "Halloween is pagan devil worship" bible thumping was just a fundie boomer fad of the 90s.

>Indian family at the end of the block decked their house out for diwali or whatever but nothing for Halloween. Figures.

The demographic of your neighborhood is important.
I live in a small, white, cozy midwestern culdesac neighborhood. Houses were all built in the 80s, so its an "older" neighborhood.

Im at the end of the street where schoolbus picks kids up. I watched kids grow older and older, but no younger kids replaced them.
There was one family with jr high kids who rented, but recently moved. I dont think there is a single kid in the neighborhood anymore.

Lots of 20 somethings own houses here, and lots of 50+ year olds. The young families arent having kids.

Im sure if you go to a rich cookie cutter mcmansion neighborhood, there will be tons of little kids. You pretty much have to be upper class to have kids right now

My guy. A Netflix subscription is 216$ per year. You are on drugs if you think streaming is anywhere in the same universe as the even the bare minimum expenses required to raise a child, let alone raising them in a happy and healthy environment. Any remotely normal individual's discretionary spending doesn't even put a dent on the absurd cost of raising a child. What a stupid fucking point to make. You are correct however. It isn't economics that drive reproduction, it's how educated the women in a society are.

It costs about 25k per year to raise a child. Median income in the US is 35k. Once again, you are genuinely, deeply stupid to compare a person's discretionary spending to the cost of supporting an entire extra human being. This is unbelievably basic logic.

>It costs about 25k per year to raise a child
I'd really like to know where that number comes from, because while I accept children are expensive they're not that expensive. I've got 5, 3 of whom are under 4, and combined they're a few thousand more a year.

UNLESS that $25k includes childcare, in which case I can totally buy. But in that case the problem isn't children being expensive, the problem is cost of living (housing etc) rising to the point that a two income household is de facto required.

The houses on my street were all built in the 70s and 80s, so of course in the 80s and 90s there were trick-or-treaters everywhere because people buy family homes and make children.

Now those kids are all growed up and moved out but the boomers are only just starting to sell/downsize/pass away, so the street has been devoid of trick-or-treaters for 20+ years and only now are there young families beginning to move in again and very slowly you can see 0-5yo kids playing in yards sometimes. I haven't been around much even the last 5 years so I bet there are a ton of kids on the street again because all the houses are being sold to a new generation of young families that need multi-bedroom homes for their offsprings.
