Let's settle this.
>>
>>21693888
Stuffing has a wider array of flavors. Therefore, stuffing.
>>
>>21693897
It's a bigger pain in the ass to make though
>>
Bread vs potato
Kinda weird pitting those 2 together. But if what we're talking about is thanksgiving sides, then the answer is both. Gun to the head: mashed potatoes.
>>
>>21693888
>Stuffing vs. mashed potatoes
Looks like Americans can't even make decent stuffing . . . how sad?

eh depends on where you get it. plenty of good stuffing here. OP looks like a hospital or something
>>

Grim looking meal
>>
>>21693928
British stuffing is different than American stuffing, in that we tend to use crumbs rather than chunks of bread, I think the seasonings may be different too.
Try and find a recipe for British stuffing, it's very different than American stuffing.
>>
>>21693952
>British stuffing
it sounds similar to american stuffing excepte for the addition of sausage
>>
>>21693927
I'm an euro living in the US so all I know is American stuffing, which is pretty similar to (but better than, imo) zsemlegombóc.
I really like it when I make it. I know this is gonna sound like don't poor people shit, but my family save bread heels throughout the year and I chop them up into cubes for the Thanksgiving stuffing. Typical mirepoix, lotsa butter, the bread cubes, turkey (or chicken) stock and an egg to hold it together.
>>21693888
Stuffing for two reasons. One is >>21693897's fpbp and two is the variety of gravies you can use on it. Carrot gravy is pretty traditional with zsemlegombóc and unsurprisingly goes very well with American stuffing, too. So does apple gravy. Both are too sweet for mash, imo, and they're particularly jarring with the best mash, garlic mash.
>>
>>21693952
>>21693955
I always wanted to try Bartlet’s stuffing. “Cornbread, oysters, water chestnuts, andouille sausage.”

Not all stuffing contains sausage meat but it looks VERY different than the American version, maybe it's because we use crumbs rather than chunks of bread.

Maybe you have a 'Brit food' section in your supermarket? Try to find picrel, it would give you a good idea.

huh. I wondered where I'd seen that name before. there was once a variety of chips (crisps) with it, "Roast Turkey with Paxo Sage & Onion"
>>
>>21693888
Stuffing > Mashed potatoes > Dressing
But I love them all and it's a close race between 1st and 2nd. I would ask you why it should even be a choice between stuffing and mashed potatoes when you can have both.
>>
>>21693966
>maybe it's because we use crumbs rather than chunks of bread.
yeah i've never seen stuffing made with crumbs before, but otherwise we typically use sage and onion too as the primary flavors

I'll put it this way: nobody ever made mashed potato flavored chips.

also yeah my local store has that but it's pretty basic, no stuffing. and it's so expensive like $6 for a can of heinz beans lol.

My local ShopRites didn't carry it when it was released so I never got to try it. : (

>>21693995
I was dismayed to come back to MST3k and realize it did not age well at all, which makes sense because so much of it is pop culture references of the time.
>>
>>21694025
The Mike seasons are still pretty solid but the Joel ones are reeeeally heavy on pop culture references from like the 1950s-1970s and I doubt anyone today gets them

EEEEK . . .sorry to hear that.
I think most Brits would agree that Branston beans are the best anyway, shame about the Paxo.

what the fuck why isn't garlic a mainstream potato chip flavor
>>
>>21693958
Oysters in stuffing? I don't know about that. Seafood and turkey aren't a natural pairing.
>>
>>21694204
Oyster stuffing is a pretty common thing in Georgia except it's called oyster dressing and is more typically "stuffed" into a baking dish. Georgia native and naughty lady Paula Dean has a decent recipe for American style but idk how British oyster dressing/stuffing tastes.
>>
>>21693958
>andouille sausage
I'm intrigued. Nothing adds flavor to turkey like a little pork.
>>
>>21693888
Both delicious. If you do stuffing youve gotta do it right. Celery/onion, and both need gravy. I use broth for my stuffing.
Also if you do taters, use season salt/black pepper and sour cream, tastes so good.
>>
>>21694117
You underestimate how many people hate garlic with a passion that rivals how much they hate anything more spicy than salt
>>
>>21694638
a good stuffing needs no gravy.
>>
>>21693888
If I had to choose one for a last meal, stuffing. I had to choose one forever, mashed potatoes. In reality it's always both
>>
>>21693897
This. Stuffing is the king of sides. Nothing can compare and anything saying otherwise is coping
>>
To everyone saying stuffing, I must remind you of the existence of garlic mashed potatoes.
>>
>>21694734
Lies. Everything needs gravy
>>
>>21694756
Garlic and sour cream is tits. Honestly just doing baked potatos with this is all you need
>>
>>21694756
I remembered it existed. I still prefer stuffing.
>>
This debate is as retarded as peanut butter vs jelly. You need both for a complete Thanksgiving meal.
>>
>>21693888
you can stuff potatoes?
>>
>>21694815
You absolutely do not. You think the Pilgrims had both?
>>
>>21694829
Ill stuff you with potatoes
>>
>>21694843
They didn't have turkey, either. Your argument is invalid.
>>
>>21694857
That just means we don’t need turkey at thanksgiving either.
>>
>>21694439
Andouille is an especially good choice because turkey isn’t rich or fatty, this is a nice contrast.
>>
>>21694843
You are poor.
>>
>>21693888
Stuffed potatoes are easy and hard to fuck up.
Mashed potatoes are easy to fuck up and every nagging cunt has their own consistency preference.
Stuffed for randoms and mashed for family.
>>
>>21693888
Why must we choose? Thanksgiving is to celebrate the bounty of the land
>>
>>21695025
Far from it, sir.

Gun to head, mashed potatoes. Turkey and potatoes have always been the linchpins. Stuffing is nice when it's there, but it's just not as fundamental as potatoes.
>>
>>21695495
>Mashed potatoes are easy to fuck up
No they're not?
>>
Stuffing as a side dish or stuffing for actual stuffing?
Because for me its
>Mac and cheese
>stuffing from inside the turkey
>mash
>stuffing that was leftover
>>
>>21695900
Nobody puts stuffing in the turkey anymore. Too much bacteria risk.
>>
>>21695495
Nobody stuffs potatoes for Thanksgiving.
>>
>Stuffing vs. mashed potatoes
Why is there some sort of tuber war I wasn't aware of?
>>
Does anyone make Stove Top anymore?
>>
>>21696037
god i hope not
>>
>>21696037
I’ve forgotten what that even tasted like.
>>
>>21696037
yes...
>>
>>21694025
Just watch Rifftrax
It's MST3K for the current times.
>>
>>21696037
I got one for free from Safeway a few years ago and tried it. It was fucking awful and not any faster than making stuffing from scratch. Why the fuck does it exist? Instant macaroni and cheese I can kinda understand since most people don't know neither the mantecatura method nor how to make a cheese sauce with Kraft singles. But this shit? Nah, bruh. Nah. That shit is nasty.
>>
>>21696037
The sage one is okay. The others are pretty bad.
>>
>>21694815
don't need stuffing
you need mashed potatoes
>>
>>21695822
>>21697788
This is correct. Stuffing has its merits but potatoes are fundamental.
>>
>>21693888
Why versus? They both belong on the plate. They are different textures and flavors. Both are enhanced with gravy.

My "dressing" is chunky mushrooms, onions, celery, herbs, and coarse bread, all golden brown and crisp on top. It may be the best thing on my plate. Hard call to make.
>>
>>21697092
Making macaroni and cheese with Kraft singles in any way shape or form? Weird ass nigga.
>>
>>21698008
To be fair, it's all the same shit. The formulas vary but Singles are essentially the same as Velveeta which is similar to mac cheese sauce. You could very easily dice up some Singles and substitute them into the cheese sauce recipe.
>>
>>21698008
I'm that guy. I'm also the guy with a Swiss mum who posted a while back about making fondue with Kraft Singles and making his very Swiss aunts very, very upset.
I put other cheeses in it, too, but Sottilette/Kraft Singles are the most common form of sodium citrate around so I use a slice or three to give the other cheeses better meltability. Think of it as an insurance policy. Anyway, that's what I base my American macaroni and cheese on if I'm in a rush. Otherwise, I do Swiss style.
>>
>>21695906
Salmonella and Campylobacter jejuni specifically.
>>
>>21698459
Why would anyone stuff a turkey with salmon? That's disgusting.
